Deep golden color with a hint of amber. Oh Boy! Stunning nose of fresh honeycomb, stewed apples and quince. A touch of petrol finds its way in there. Full, rich and initially sweet…the acid support kicks in and leaves a full, perfectly balanced sip of nectar. A perfect match for stinky cheese or foie gras. 60 second plus finish. Golden color. This has a profound nose. with layer upon layer of stone, savory, spice, fruit, honey, and mineral. Lychee, tons of spice, and while more on the herbal-spicy side than rosy-floral, there is plenty of fruit, with dried flowers-almost pot pourri, nuts, fresh ginger, honey, and bitters on the nose. On the palate, hugely rich and perfectly balanced, with incredible stony depth, smokiness, honey, rosewater, nuts, and brilliant acidity perfectly matched with a tremendously rich texture, all coming off simultaneously incredibly powerful and weightless. Unbelieveably complex, a real thinking wine. Amazing depth, and a near endless finish. The best dessert wine if not the best wine I have had in quite a while. I can't ask anything more of a wine. Better on day three. At peak and not going anywhere soon. Magnificent. 99 pts

Burnished copper colour with a apricot, marmalade and ginger filled nose. So very, very thick and syrupy, amazing concentration of sweet flavour yet well balanced by good acidity. The palate is densely packed with endless layers of apricot, marmalade, brown sugar, caramel, ginger and more. Enormous length, just when you think it's finished there are more layers of golden syrup, creme brûlée and barley sugar. Absolutely amazing wine.

ejat can you say but WOW. As amazing of any Weinbach that I have ever tasted. Great acids and minerals keep it floating and the sweetness blends in nicely. Every possible combination of brown scars, integrated oak like butterscotch, table molasses, burnt caramel along with the pitted fruits, candied citrus, slate, flint and florals of acacia and dried red. berries. Very, very long finish. You are sad when the bottle is empty even after a night with about 28 amazing wines.

Opened three days before the tasting.

TN a composite of the first night and one week later. Honestly more from the second week, as that night, after all the food and wine, while it was delicious, it had a difficult time shining.

Golden color. On the nose rosewater, honey, lychee, gewurz spice, brown sugar, citrus pith, and orange bitters. This has turned smoky and spicy, and while the roses and lychee fruit are present it is more about the mature notes. On the palate, rich and dense with great tension and freshness. Fantastic texture with a broad frame, and sense of density without any heaviness. It is less overtly sweet with more caramelized sugar and brown sugar notes behind the rosewater and honey. This wine carries the RS effortlessly. Layered and outrageously complex, this is a contemplative wine that draws you in and forces you to think. There are layers upon layers, all morphing on the palate, and with a seemingly endless finish. Complicated, harmonious, beautiful stuff. Maybe not the transcendent bottle I had last time, but awfully close a week later. This may outlive me. My next bottle will be opened and served as an aperitif or with cheese, maybe again at the end of the meal, or better yet, served over several meals over several nights, and then again in the middle of the day by itself. A great, great wine. 98

BYO - Erik: What a treat to try this wine.
As soon as it hits the palate it is clear that it a very serious wine. There is plenty of fruit and sweetness left but also a still piercing acidity that really lift the wine to a special level.
Great balance and overall structure. Clearly a wine that can keep for a very long time.

This ia the Clos des Capucins Tokay-Pinot Gris SGN 1996 from half bottle. Super explosive, dense, deep and layered, this is showing notes od apricot, fig, dates, caramel, molasses, pepper, some citrus too and so much minerality. It's full-bodied and deep, with super high acidity and a lot of sweetness, but perfectly integrated and balanced. Long finish with so much complexity and length. A great great wine and one of the best sweet wines I have had in many years. Super impressive.

Hint av petro på duft, litt våt stein, bergamott og mynte. Mineralitet dominerer i munnen også. Lite merkbar syre for en riesling. Fin lengde. Grei riesling, men leverer ikke helt grand cru.

This was sensational. Uber high toned concentrated candied tangerine and candied lemon and beeswax. Honeyed but not cloying. Fresh yet sweet. 30 second plus finish. 97+ has years ahead.

For my 2,000th note on Cellartracker, it was an amazing experience to taste this. Incredibly long 30+ second finish of orange marmelade, citrus peel, forest honey and emerging hints of petrol on the nose. Drinks as good if not better than some of the top d’Yquem vintages (I know it’s not the same grape). 97-98

What a wine! As good as any Sauternes I’ve had and I’m a big fan of those. nose of flowers and apricot. Fantastic viscosity. Apricots, pineapple, lemons, gravel. Great acid balances it beautifully. Long finish.

A beautiful golden yellow. The nose was relatively light - sweet candied fruit, heather honey, and warm gingerbread. The taste was a luscious mix of wild flowers, candied pears, guava, and honey. A lingering finish of honey, vanilla, and tart acidity to balance it out. Simply outstanding!

Luminous and beautifully deep golden color with a vaguely coppery core. Very complex and wonderfully evolved nose with rich, layered aromas of wizened apricots, toasty nutty character, candied orange zest, some chamomile, a little bit of bruised apple, a little bit of smoke and a hint of exotic spice. Immensely attractive stuff. The wine is full-bodied, concentrated and very rich on the palate with off-dry flavors of baked apple, steely minerality, some dried peachy fruit, a little bit of beeswax, light pineapple tones, a toasty hint of roasted nuts and a mineral touch of wet stones. Typical of many Alsatian Pinot Gris wines, the wine is only medium in acidity with quite viscous, oily mouthfeel. The finish is sweet-yet-dry with rich, layered flavors of stony minerality, pineapples, some honeyed richness, a little bit of dried peach, light oxidative nuttiness, a hint of smoke and a touch of bruised apple.

As delicious as an aged Alsatian Pinot Gris can be. I can imagine these wines can be too sweet and unctuous for some people, but even though I prefer racy and delicate whites, I have a sweet spot for a good Alsatian Pinot Gris - and this wine fits the bill more than perfectly. This is just simply outstanding - and yet it feels like there's still a little bit of room for further development. Although not the easiest wine to pair with most dishes, this is just so good I could drink this stuff whenever wherever. Ridiculously lip-smacking stuff.

Very nice sticky, hardly any sign of evolution. Could last another 50 years. The tremendous sweetness of this bottle is perfectly balanced by matching acidity, resulting in an easy drinking wine that is a perfect match to foie gras or dessert. Long aftertaste, great stuff.
