Well this was just remarkable. One of my favorite wine drinking experiences. Slow decanted, and drank this bottle over 5 hours. The nose was rich and balanced. After 31 years we were amazed that there was still fruit, followed by delicious secondary flavors that you would expect from a wine of this age. It was fantastic. Initial tasty fruit was followed by earthy flavors; dirt, moss, mushroom, leather, muddy creek bed. The finish was mild, long, and perfectly balanced. A fully integrated and balanced wine, pleasant start to finish. Really a total delight.

This is the outcome that all wine makers are going for when they take all those labored steps to make their wine...and what we all want to happen when we write "Im going to lay this one down for 5 more years.”

Aged CA Cabs, Armory: Ruby Burgundy red; Wow!!! This has a super pungent, awesome, spice, pot-pouri, light red frt nose w/traces of pepper, lite brown spice, herb-tea--very pungent, one said “’sewage...in a good way”) simply awesome; mth was on target, silky, elegant, fine t’s, good a’s, long fin; super complex and smooth--the ideal aged wine. True, it is lighter style, but nothing wrong with that when structure/flavors are what they are. How did this “unrated” low scoring, Sonoma wine become incredible? I am perplexed. And why the super high prices? Anyway, this is just about as perfect as wine gets to me. Maybe 95?

    10/5/2012 10:31:00 AM - Thanks for sharing this review. We haven't opened a 750ml 1979 in quite some time. Great to hear who it's doing. The 6 liter we opened this spring for our 40th anniversary party was really well-received and had that spice and red fruit nose you spoke of.

decanted about a half hour. very fruit forward, i didn't get the bordeaux sense that others mentioned. it's ready to drink, and a good wine for the price.

    10/5/2012 10:30:00 AM - 2003 was a warmer, riper vintage, which might explain why you didn't get the Bordeaux nuances. Try 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008.

Terrible. Heavy on the tongue, no complexity, super buttery/oaky, no fruit, no nose. Entire table thought it was awful. Never again.

    6/3/2011 5:20:00 PM - I saw your recent review of Jordan 2008 Chardonnay and wanted to reach out to you. I'm very sorry you and your friends had a bad experience with this wine. Your comments were very different from the usual descriptors we see, so we are concerned. Our Chardonnay is only aged about 50% in new French oak (the rest used French), which makes it not a typical oaky Chardonnay. And it undergoes only 28% malolactic to avoid the typical buttery Chardonnay style. We made the wine to fruit-forward with bright acidity and just a touch of oak, so we are concerned you might have had a bad bottle. Could you let us know where you purchased the wine? We'd like to do some quality control research. We'd also like the opportunity to share another bottle of Jordan with you. Thanks again for taking the time to comment. Disappointing in every way. There are so so many better options for ~$20 chardonnay. Sort of embarrassing to be so critical of a brand I like and want to be able to support but this chard is basically $7 wine with a nice label to pull the average retail. I must agree with an earlier reviewer on "never again."

    Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about our wine. Our winemaker was very surprised by your sentiments (and the previous reviewer you referred to), as these assessments are inconsistent with all the descriptors and comments we've received about this wine. Perhaps you received a flawed bottle? Is there any chance you kept the cork? We'd love to run some tests on it. This vintage has less buttery characters and less oak influence than any previous vintage of Jordan Chardonnay. It's been described as bright, crisp and elegant by our customers. Many sommeliers have told us they think it's the best vintage of Chardonnay we've produced.
