Oh wow. Where did this one come from? Stupendously fragrant infused with a mineral spine chiselled from the hardest rock and layered on top with essence of fruit without every being fruity. This exists in a dimension where mineral, liquid and fruit all exist on multiple levels - at first there is tight tannins the red fruit, then a mineral kick then a touch of sweet black fruit. A wine of calmness and quite superb quality.

Hold on a second, let me buy a case and when I return, I will complete this review. Ok, I’m back. Blind, dark purple, tar, ink, darkest of berries glass staining richness, full body, ending on a restrained as it’s too young finish. Just wow! Earlier this year, I had rated the top end cuvée La Marguerite 93 points which costed $88 CAD. I am rating the Laquets 94 points which costs less than half at $42 CAD so you decide which one to buy. I can’t recommend enough. It will last at least 20 years. A monster.

Severely marked by the pyrazines that have tiinsed so many 2004s. Starts out with residual dark fruit and mushrooms with some green bell pepper but quickly the tannins become so hard that it’s almost undrinkable — the wine shut down completely

5/26/2023 9:55:00 AM - My experience with 2004 is in general is that there is extreme variation from bottle to bottle. For example, the Robert Chevillon wines in 2004 were like this. However, where there are severe.pyrozines they will not improve with age.

Showing very well indeed -- in a lovely spot. Benefitted from 2-hour decant.

Dinner at Greenwood (Greenwood, Highland Park, IL): Nose: It took a little bit for this to fully open up, but as it did it was classic Cote-Rotie with dark red cherries, raspberries, black olives, violets, black pepper, licorice, tobacco, crushed rocks, and spice notes. There is excellent depth with the dark red fruits showing a youthful freshness to them.

Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium+ tannins. The structure still shows some youth, but it is balancing out with dark red cherries, raspberries, black olives, violets, tobacco, licorice, black pepper, and crushed rocks.

Overall: This is starting to drink, but it could really use another few years. It is almost there and shows off the more elegant side of Cote-Rotie that I really love.

Slightly oxidised bottle but still enjoyable, fairly meaty and powerful.

Possible the bottle is off? Fairly lean, mature to declining, interesting minerality but little fruit and tea bag tannins. Strong metallic flavour ruins an otherwise okay but not amazing wine. lacks the depth of last two bottles.

This was a magnum 1994 Talbot. Red clear color; first nose, roasted vanilla; second nose, China ink, smoked oak; on the palate, balanced acidity and fruit, full body, complex; long clean finish.

Nice concentration and richness, but the oak is too dominant and wood tannins close down the wine. Quite typical of Lamy wines in their use. I'd guess that the wine has enough richness to swallow the oak in 3-5 years -- wouldn't drink it before then.

In my opinion almost perfectly developed right now, still with freshness in the fruit, smooth tannins and well-integrated oak. I would say perfectly balanced. Very elegant and transparent (some would say watery) on the mid-palate as many 04s. Love it.

'02-'07 Bergström, '95-'97 Musar, and more in Maine (Kirk's Apartment): Pale ruby in the glass with scents of cedar, earth, tobacco, cranberries, pomegranate, saddle leather, raspberries, at the tail end there was a hint of clove and cement dust. In the mouth this light to medium bodied (depending on how long it had been in the decanter...it picked up weight with time open) wine bursts with a melange of red fruits, mushroom, a hint of cedar, and other earthy notes. This wine has always been a favorite of mine, despite the VA that is usually present, I find it gives this some character and in just the right amount adds to the intrigue of this wine.
