3/16/2014 - Jojala Does not like this wine: 88 points

Like all bottles in my cellar, I want to like this, but no... This wine is heavy and filled with oak. Perhaps time will make a difference? Rather monolithic, could-be-from-anywhere where there just is enough patience for over-extraction... I am a bit harsh but currently this wine does not deliver. Flawless storage.

Despite I consider it is too soon for this bottle, the style of Aalto is what you're defining.
My only 05 bottle for next 2019...

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #085; Spain: Ribera del Duero. (by EvA): Chocolate, dark forest fruits, sweet spices and caramel in the bouquet. On the palate a very lush wine with ripe dark fruits, chocolate, herbs and some mint. Round tannin with still a firm bite. Modern made and a lot of everything in this concentrated wine. Many loved it, but the ones preferring classical style were a little less enthusiastic. Personally I love this wine, but it probably should age for another 3 - 5+ years to really show its merits. Harley1199, looking forward to your opinion ;-). 91+ for this evening.

I agree with your opinion. My drinking window for my only bottle is 2029, those five years you mentioned.
Aalto, probably the best seller Spanish wine in Finland, is that right Avp? perhaps you know why if not Google may help, is that kind of wine I don't care too much but am quite enthusiastic about CT mates TNs. Having nothing more than a couple of bottles I prefer to wait a little more before to pop them up. Anything more than an standard RdD? Somebody affirms that it is...
Cheers! Best regards, this time, from London.

Day 3 review and it needed it. Day one was oak over load. Now it is balanced with spices, cedar, floral, leather and raspberries. Palate is a bit spicy but I enjoy the texture in the mouth. Medium plus finish and no hurry on drinking these as they could go another decade.

This is an amazing wine. Big and bold with black fruit and something extra that stood out right from pouring the first glass (I opened it a few hours before dinner so did not decant.) We were grilling some prime rib steaks tonight and at first I thought California Cabernet. Then this caught my eye and I realized it had been a long time since I'd had the pleasure. Good choice to say the least. Just getting to savour the bouquet gives enough pleasure to make it worth while. There's so much going on that you just can't help sniffing and swirling. And the mouthfeel is so satisfying. Many thanks to the CT community for those glowing reviews waybackwhen that convinced me to go all in on this one. A truly great wine IMO.

Very grippy. Much better with the steaks than on its own. I'd like to hold onto y last bottle fora few more years to see if the tannins resolve but not sure it has the acidity and structure to age any more. Nonetheless, excellent today with a large piece of grilled meat.

    1/14/2014 1:10:00 AM - Hi again Zweder,
    So nice to read you.
Sorry for those misunderstandings... RdD is nothing more than Ribera de Duero and Avp is one of our CT mates, who is Finnish.
What I tried to present as paradoxical was this wine is a best-seller in Helsinki more for its label than the stuff contained in the bottle.
Btw, I always though you were from Holland, Belgium even but probably I'm wrong...
Finally about those two bottles remaining, it's just depending of your personal taste...if you want something softer or full of energy.
Still has a way to run, in my opinion

The wine is a deep maroon, dark color. The stunning nose has blackberry liqueur, melted licorice, warm baking spices, cedar, dark bittersweet chocolate, some earthy underbrush, and a nice floral note. This has medium to full body, fairly solid tannins, and good acidity. On the palate the wine is rich and plush with spicy berries, dark chocolate, and some earthiness. The finish is long and loaded with spicy fruit and dark chocolate. This tastes outstanding today, but may get even better with some additional cellar time.

Outstanding, all the qualities you would want with great Tempranillo from RDD, love the sharp intense focus that is antithesis of the Rioja examples of this grape, just loved this - Dark, full bodied with a nose of intense plum, cherry, graphite, cedar and vanilla, very well structured and balanced, focused, intense, complex, sweet on the palate with terrific length, awesome (94 Points).

In my opinion one of the best South American wine out there. It's rich full of personality, it stands out and I really like that. The only issue with this wine is that at this 80 / 90 dollar mark has some very stiff competition. This would be an excellent option at the 50 dollar range enjoy!

Wow. Nutmeg, plum, and boysenberry on the nose of this inky, opaque wine. Color is deep, dark red with blue notes and a bright crimson edge. Palate shows a maturing wine with graphite, blackberries, boysenberries, plum, baking spice, tart cherries, taught acidity, and a beautiful acidic backbone. Tannins are strong but very fine and well-integrated. Alcohol is surprisingly modest and the finish is very long. Outstanding wine.

High Altitude Vineyards (Plus Private Dinner at restaurant García de la Navarra) (Vila Viniteca - Madrid): Obscure colour with violet edges.
Quite floral nose. Notes of pencil savings and crude carob bean.
Too much wood at this point but elegant although lacks that power and complexity of Altamira that I admire the most.
Extremely young on the palate, fresh and very persistent. Fine acidity with some diluted tannins.

Excellent harmony, soft & round integrated tannins, still a pleasant amount of ripe fruitiness, coated with a thick layer of chocolate, silky mature sensation with subtle notes of spices and delicate wood. Long finish of a great Ribera wine, a full bodied wine that is, still, in great shape and is very much enjoyable. Can further age 5-10 years.
