Medium bodied palate with moderate acidity. Has a nice richness on midpalate, but not too much. Nice berries, minerals, and finishes with a touch of tannin?!?! Finishes like some of the dry rose's from Loire. Interesting. |

9/13/1987 - andrewstevenson.com wrote: flawedA good ripe, almost old ruby tinged with plum colour, though without any great depth. Very intense blackcurrant and wet twiggy nose, with more than a hint of mustiness. This is going to be corked, I think. Thin and weedy on the palate with lots of acidity. With exposure to air, this showed itself definitely to be corked. |

2/16/2016 - CMN Likes this wine: 87 pointsDeep red. Nose of red berries, chalk, talcum powder and occasionally a Brett note that mostly disappeared with sufficient air. Flavors of red berries, chalk, grape, red currants and a green herbal note that makes itself known on the short finish. Good acidity and a light+ body, very easy drinking. At this stage needs a good decant. Smoother/better on day two. |

7/31/2014 - acyso wrote: 90 pointsTasting with Florent Baumard (Chicago, IL): 3-5% cabernet sauvignon, depending on the vintage. This is what Loire reds are all about. Tons of fresh and juicy red fruit on the nose, with a prominent green pepper note as a counterbalance. The palate still has a bit of that "new wine taste" that you get in really young wines. Light on the tannins, but plenty of fruity, juicy acidity. Excellent! As Florent said, "this is kind of wine that you can drink with lunch, but doesn't prevent you from going back to work afterwards." |

The aromas smelled of fresh soil, bell peppers, cranberries, cherries and some fresh tobacco. The palate is fresh, red fruit driven, with soft touches of earth and florals. A pure wine. |

But we are absolutely tasting (or not given the absence of any noteworthy flavor) the same wine. This is drinkable with no immediately obvious flaws. The problem is that is absolutely completely without any distinction. It is pretty close to insipid. I would drink a carafe of this in a café and not even notice what I had been drinking. There isn't even any pleasure, which for Anjou--one of the more gouleyant wines out there, is not cool. And from Domaine de Baumard is sad. |

2/22/2013 - isaacjamesbaker wrote: 89 pointsClear and bright ruby colored. Sour cherries and red plums on the nose, dried rose petals and the smell of two slate rock being smashed together. On the palate, this cab franc is smooth and soft, with fine-grain tannins and tangy acid, all very well-integrated. On the fruit side, this wine shows wild raspberry and dried cherry, but there's this great herbal component, like dried oregano and bay leaf. Great underlying sense of minerality throughout. If you've ever tasted mineral water straight out of a rock, you get a sense of what I'm talking about. Medium-length finish with notes of black tea. The fruit is quite restrained, and the other aspects are more pronounced, but if that's what you're looking for, this hits the spot. I love Baumard's whites and dessert wines, and I'm interested in trying other vintages of this Anjou rouge. |
