11/17/2019 - vinofilia Likes this wine: 92 pointsWith bottle age this wine was showing green pea, slightly dried citrus, the oak was beautifully intergrated, and there was still refreshing acidity. Definately one of the better SBS blends I’ve had from Margaret River for a while. |

12/28/2017 - Goldstone Likes this wine: 93 pointsDegustation Lunch with 'Museum' Wine Flight (Leeuwin Estate, Stevens Rd, Margaret River WA 6285, Australia): Apparently not sold outside the estate and thus a bit of a 'secret'. Light copper gold. Nose is muted green melon, savoury, ground nuts. Palate is really lovely laser sharp delineated acidity and an immediate resonance inside the head even on the entry, followed by fresh squeezed lemon and lime. Really fresh and glossy in its crystal cut. Long and reverberant. Very elegant indeed.. |

12/9/2017 - Paul S wrote: 91 pointsBrian + Sylvia, Wedding Dinner (Leeuwin Estate): I liked this - it was actually one of the more queitly impressive wines of the night. The nose had bright notes of gooseberries and grassy herb weighted down sweet lemon and cream nuances. I thought it could almost be a Bordeaux if one closed the eyes. The palate was nicely balanced indeed, with an almost oily depth licked by bright acidity. Here, sweet notes of beeswax and flowers danced around a core of stone fruit and ripe lemon notes, with a little kiss of mineral and spice past the midpalate, and then green nuts and herb right at the long, creamy finish. A nice starter wine, lots of character for its price, and it paired especially well with a bit of abalone. |

6/6/2014 - Milliontown wrote: 92 pointsReally wasn't expecting much from this one. The cork was soaked 3/4 of the way along but the remaining 1/4 was holding on for dear life. It was a wrestle to remove the cork and it didn't happen in one piece, but once done and decanted it started to show the classic cabernet characters of cassis and leafy green aromas, combined with nutty oak and old portish dry fruit. There's a hint of meatiness or something savoury in there too, like cooking spice. The colour is still deep red with a brown rim. The palate is smooth and refined, and dominated by oak flavours as some of the fruit has faded, but it's still delicious and balanced in it's own way. There's still a bit of length too with the acid in harmony with the lingering fruit. A fantastic and memorable wine, took a wild chance with this one and was pleasantly surprised. |

1/11/2011 - N2Vin wrote: 87 pointsRemarkably youthful in color. Medium to light body and still ruby red virtually without any evidence of age. Fruit still dominant and sweet. Crisp and acidic. Not great complexity. Faded rather quickly though. Looked young but drank old.. |

6/1/2015 - CamWheeler wrote: 90 pointsLast lunch club meetup for a while (Sydney, Australia): Great colour - deep red and only just fading out at the edges. Cherry, herb, graphite, ash, meat and rhubarb. Medium bodied palate, good balance and medium length. Could do with a little more complexity but it is holding up well and probably as good a bottle as you are likely to get at this point. |

10/13/2008 - BarneyBuzz wrote: 90 pointsColor: Dark ruby red core with color fading towards the other rim towards a light color. Nose: Light Barnyard Funk, smoke red fruit, phenolic heat.light gentle vanilla notes, bell peppers. light Cedar notes. Palate:Surprising light bodied for a Cabernet, as its only a medium-light bodied wine. High acid, juicy fruit, mellowed and tamed tannins, flavors black current berries, little heat showing, aged Cabernet drink, smooth and elegant, lingering finish ending with a touch of smoky aftertaste. Drink now or keep for another few years. The Acid would make this a good food wine. On the 2nd night, nose was 50% gone, palate still displayed heat and a little spice was detected. Fruit still showed but a tad less impressive. I wouldn't keep the wine for more than 2 days. 87pts |

11/1/2009 - championship_bottle wrote: NRWow, immediately after opening I would have pegged this as a nice Cab Franc. Lots of vegetable notes (though no bell pepper from what I get) veering into broccoli or brussel sprouts (in a good way). Lots of very savory red fruit notes on the palate with a lovely austerity that matches well with food. Delicious. After being in the fridge overnight the wine loses a lot of the green notes and takes on tobacco character as well as a bit more weight on the palate--moving into Bordeaux territory rather than the Loire. Possibly better though it isnt quite as zippy. |

8/31/2013 - gingerbreadman Likes this wine: 90 pointsDeep in colour with a little vanilla and camphor on the nose. Berries and plums on the palate and almost no residual tannins. Acidity is reasonable. Length is good with lingering fruit but a bit sour. |

Current tasting drew out better 2ndary qualities, and the wine is very well integrated at this time. Def. still has some breadth to grow for a few more years. |

12/28/2017 - Goldstone Likes this wine: 91 pointsDegustation Lunch with 'Museum' Wine Flight (Leeuwin Estate, Stevens Rd, Margaret River WA 6285, Australia): Almost transparent purple-red. Nose is an immediate impression of red velvet curtains, rich Americans coffee, lots of oak but integrating well, hints of warm tarmac, ripe black plum, sandalwood.....I could smell this forever. Palate is gorgeously well-delineated lead pencil with fresh acidity, elegance but lots of power in a slightly dilute body, lovely blackberry fruit...the epitome of top-end Margaret RiverR Cabernet Sauvignon. Hints of fresh liquorice stick. A nice mounting but elegantly subtle length. Is just entering its early drinking window. Lacks the deeper power of the 2012. 91+ |
