WSET DIPLOMA TASTING NOTE

Wine: Broglia Brut Blanc des blancs

Date of tasting:26/02/2015

Appearance: The wine is clear and bright, it has medium gold colour and it has fine, small and persistent bubbles

Nose: The nose is clean, it has medium plus intensity aroma of autolytic aromas such as yeasts, biscuits, brioches and citrus fruity such as lemon and lime and hints of kernel aromas such as almond. It has hints of stone fruit like white peach. The nose is developing.

Palate: It is a dry wine, it has high refreshing acidity, no tannins, it has medium level of alcohol, medium body and pronounced flavour intensity of yeast, biscuits, brioches with lemon and lime. Hints of white peach and almond on the medium plus finish (typical of Cortese grape). It has a creamy mousse.

Assesement of quality: It is a very good wine, because it is well balanced between alcohol, body and flavours. It is a good example of use of Cortese grape, maintaining the characteristics of this grape in the production. It has a very good, refreshing and elegant acidity that allow the wine to improve further. It has a great complexity on the nose and on the palate.
Perfect to drink with apetizers of fish

Method of production: Traditional method

Region of origin: Gavi, Piemonte, Italy

Predominant grape variety: Cortese

Readiness for drinking/potential for ageing: Drink now but can improve further

Approximate retail price: 14 €

Very strong tangy apple flavour to this, plus a touch of something nutty. Not bad, but not great either.

Gold Medal ? strong hint of something medicinal on the nose, quite a tangy sweet and sour indeterminate taste, viscous to a degree.
Not for me, falls into the category of rather bland Italian whites with little to commend them, no doubt there are Gavi's out there that are worth drinking but I have yet to find one that si more than a lunch wine.

Pale lemon colour. A touch of citrus with the peach on the nose. Very attractive palate with white peaches and almonds (after some grapefruit early). Good balance and more interesting than many examples of Gavi. Very long.
OK when first opened but it was much better after a night in the fridge (not served too cold) when it was more complex and slightly 'sweeter'. A very pleasant surprise - excellent wine.

Not had any Gavinfor a while and bought this as it was a third off at £10. Off dry, tropical fruits with a slight nuttiness. Good depth of flavour. Great wine at £10 as a pre dinner drink.

Pale yellow, hint of green. Muted nose but great burst of flavour in the mouth. Warm fruit initially then a savoury middle and a long dry finish. Can’t find the words to describe the flavours. Initial glow may be down to the alcohol - 13.5%. Savoury elements have hints of chalk and yeast, almost biscuity. Intriguing and multi layered. Very enjoyable and good with food. Very long finish. Quite like a Pinot Gris, but more lemony. Others have written of pear fruit, lemon and almond - all of which I can taste.

Lemon yellow with hints of gold , there aromas of white elder flowers, pear drops, limoncello, sugary lemon, green apples, and minerality. It's dry but creamy in the mouth with plenty of acidity. Flavours of greengage, sour apples and almonds lead into,a long dry finish tasting of Brazil nuts. Still has several years life ahead. Drink with food .

Pale lemon. The nose shows medium- intensity neutral aromas of lemon peel, green apple and hints of green pineapple.

It is dry in the mouth with a medium+ acidity. It has a medium alcohol strength and a medium body. It has medium intensity flavours and a medium finish.

it is a good quality wine. It is fresh, with enough concentration and length to consider it a nice everyday wine, but it lacks depth and complexity.

2019 Broglia Gavi:
Aroma of nothing at all.
Mouthfuls of very sour grapes. Long on the tongue, but not a flavour that you want to hang around.
No balance.
It might just about be alright served cold on a hot roof terrace but even at £8.50 a bottle it’s poor value.

Didn't have much experience with Gavi, but this one is good. Dry sherry kind of aromas with sea shell, mineral, smoke, with bold vanillin oak tones. Good freshness, creamy mouth feel and soft texture. This is quite structure for a Gavi with lively acidity and mineral that end with slight oaky, medium length finish with orange peel bitterness aftertaste. Buy - No.

Willi Schaefer meets some solid Italian Wines (La Chaseur, New Bridge Road): Excellent stuff. Tre Bichierri, and you can see why. A little oak on the nose, but it widens out into nice florals, white fruit, pears and pineapples, sesoned with some spice and mineral scents and a little a bit of earthiness. Lots of depth on those smells. The palate gave an impression of bright acidity, with lemony flavours puckering the mouth, but that tones down on the midpalate, where the weight of white fruit - again pineapples, some pears, some apples - brings the wine into lovely balance. Nice sappy feel here, and the finish was underlined by a serious seam of minerality. I thought the acidity was spot on when this was served when cool, but the definition and focus slipped a bit when warmed - that was our fault rather than the wine's though. Otherwise, good depth, quite a bit of complexity and a good amount of dry extract bodes well for its future. I would think that it will be even better a couple of years down the road. Very good indeed.

12.5% alcohol...nose is super expressive stone fruits, baking spices in the background, really expresses to me jump out of the glass minerality...on the palate medium-full, more zip than I would have expected in the higher cuvee from this producer, lees, tropical fruit, great acidity. I'd like to get a bottle or two to see what happens. Full yet drinkable. Served without food.
