2018 CalvetSt. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend more |
3/8/2022 - MosheDehsoM Likes this wine: 88 pointsNice bright red purple. Medium body. High to medium acidity. Low to medium tanines. Relatively smooth. Vaguely aromatic, plum, blackberries, blueberries. Same on the palate. Did not smell or taste oak, maybe very vaguely. Not too complex or interesting but enjoyable and fun to drink. Very accessible despite relative young age. All in all - nice wine and good VFM. |

2/24/2019 - johnrm Likes this wine: 86 pointsCalvet Reserve is 100% Sauvignon Blanc - no Semillon as shown here. It is crisp, very dry and fresh, with citrus fruit, apple/pear, white peach (with peach stones) together with slightly herbal notes including fennel on the mid-late palate. Better as it warmed and good next day after a night in the fridge. An attractive, slightly oily, mouth feel. Really needs food, of course, and the wine is unlikely to please those who like the current wave of 'sweeter', less restrained SB from the New World and parts of Southern France. |

Genuine, balanced white Bordeaux for five bucks. Aromatically dominated by the 20% sauvignon blanc in the blend, the remaining 80% semillon plays a supporting role along with a modest bump from new oak. Some might find this high in acid, and it's not especially fruity or complex, but this is very fine with food and an insane value. Very Good. |

7/6/2006 - cousteau wrote: 85 pointsI´d guess the blend is dominated by the semillon as the live acidity expected from the sauvignon isn´t there. The nose is quite nice with good fruit, honeysuckle and some herbal notes. Good body and balance, but I´d prefer some more freshness. |

5/15/2017 - Teawine wrote: NRNot bad. Deep dark colour with nice deep aromas of black cherry, plum and blackberry. There was also some toast with the smell of vegimite/marmite yeast extract spead too. Found the palate less interesting and not balanced. Medium body with grippy tannins with slightly sour acidity. More black fruit, but without great depth, with chocolate and some green vegital hints. Decent wine - with appropriate food. |

7/14/2011 - Greybeard wrote: 84 pointsA decent basic claret with a moderate fruity nose, some cassis, and a smoky flavour in the mouth. A good balance of acidity and tannin, a touch light on the fruit with a lean mid-palate and finish, but enjoyable. It started to fall apart after 36 hours though, not enough structure to hold up. 83-84pts. |
