4/22/2021 - Gabriel Geller Likes this wine: 95 pointsChâteau Valandraud, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, 2005: For the past 6 years or so this wine has remained on my top 10 best kosher wines ever. It is also one of the most prestigious wines to have been made in kosher, as this is a 1st classed growth classé B Saint-Emilion. I was fortunate to drink it again twice recently. It has entered its window and the peak shouln't be far away, but it will likely hold it for several years. Deep purple towards garnet, with on the nose ripe blackberries, wild blueberries, raspberries, loamy dirt, wet forest floor, wild mushrooms, smoke and old leather. Full-bodied, rich and velvety on the palate, with layers upon layers of raspberries, blackberries, plums, a touch of fennel, tar, earthy minerals, pipe tobacco, dried mushrooms, black truffle, with medium acidity and generous sweet and savory tannins that coat the mouth as the wine opens up accenting notes of dark chocolate-covered cherries on the seemingly endless, elegant and plush finish. Stunning. 13.5% Abv. Drink now-2030, maybe longer. 95-96 |
