2011 Alpha Omega Cabernet Franc & Merlot

Napa Valley Red Bordeaux Blend more

Pretty unremarkable, but easy drinking, medium to full bodied red. There's no real reason to hold these or buy any extra bottles. Drink and clear out your cellar space for different bottle.

Fruity and oaky, but extracted to the point that I could have mistaken this for a Syrah.

Nose of tropical fruit. Notes of guava and grapefruit. Light and easy drinker. I'd be a lot happier if it were in the $25 range.

Classic Sauvignon Blanc. Crisp and clean. Spicy and grassy up front, juicy, green apple acidity on the finish. Nice QPR at 14.99.

Anderson Valley more

3/15/2014 - expensivehobby wrote: 90 points

Popped, poured, and consumed over three hours. Moderate fruity nose with a hint of smoky oak. Medium bodied pinot. Really fresh red fruits: strawberry, cherry, cranberry. Acid is well balanced by an oaky backbone, but nowhere near as oaky as a central coast pinot. Great finish. Definitely a wine to enjoy while young.

Very reserved California cab. Well integrated flavors, but did not find anything particularly compelling over two days.

Loved this. For lack of a better descriptor, my friends call this wine "very Napa." Big and bold. Dry, long finish.

Pop and pour. Decent honeyed nose. Okay acid. Lacks the grassy/grapefruit notes of most sauvignon blancs. Round in the mouth... Possibly malolactic fermentation? Overall very one dimensional and uninspired.

Decent, but I found this to be a rather light cabernet. Only thing of note was its long finish.

Way too young at this point. Not sure how to rate this one. Hot and overpoweringly alcoholic and sweet out of the bottle. Slight improvement over 2 hours. Significant improvement on the second day. Moderate nose, good fruit, moderate finish. Although this sounds odd, this may be the "grapey-ist" wine I've tasted.

Still quite young. Drank over 2 hours. Initially quite tannic, but opened up beautifully after about 90 minutes of air. Smooth and absolutely delicious after two hours. Will be better in a few years in the cellar.

I would have never guessed that this wine came from Oregon. Medium bodied and dark garnet. Popped and poured and consumed over 5 hours. Initially very fruit forward with decent acidity. The fruit backed off a little after the three hour mark. Drinks far closer to a central coast or Russian river Pinot. At 16.99 a decent deal.

Beautiful notes of dark berries and pomegranate. Initially fruity and almost sweet on the attack. Long lingering finish. Acidic, but well balanced. Drinking well now. Hoard all you can if you fall into the afwe crowd. Give it a shot if you're not.

Hot mess of a bottle when first opened. Initial nose of hot alcohol, almost dusty. Significantly settled down after about 30 minutes. After 90 minutes, this turned out to be a fairly light cabernet. Hints of blackberry, cherry, and cassis. Light finish.
