This is drinking well for my palette right now, but could probably hold here. Lots of tart berry with a bit of iron or minerals. What a nice treat!

A very pleasant middle level Cote de Beaune red. Good not great. Drink up. The nose is pleasant , but not compelling. It takes a little time in the glass for the fruit to catch up with the tannins. Certainly will not be accused with being elegant. Useful would be accurate

Lunch with Thibaut and colleagues (Praelum Wine Bistro): Pale ruby. Zingy minerals, florals, and underripe cranberry on the nose. Bright acids, some bit of tannic bite, but largely elegant, with red floral and fairly intense red cherry and cranberry flavours, as well as cool menthol, wet moss and a hint of crushed nuts, and spring water. Quite lengthy. Nice!

Very nice nose of red and dark fruit. Pretty tannic on pop and pour. A 3 hour decant improved things, and overnight under argon was even better.

Nice wine. Probably not ready. Definitely good on the second day. Not exactly my idea of a feminine Volnay but there it is.

My last of 3 bottles. Last tasted 2 yrs ago.
Showing a bit of tawny color at the rim, this maturing 1er Cru Volnay has lovely aromas of pomegranate, wet rocks and soil, cinnamon, tart cherries, spearmint, and rhubarb.
Deliciously grippy tannins, very firm acidity, slightly rustic on the medium-length, spicy finish.
Drinking beautifully now, and will likely continue to do so through 2024+.

Unlike many 2007 Volnays this doesn't appear to be in a good place currently for giving pleasure. It was undrinkable on day one due to strong reduction, and still tight on day 2. Only after a many additional hours of air did it begin to come around. It will be a nice, typical Santenots in some years time, but for now it seems to need sleep.

Popped and decanted. Tasting note done one hour after opening.

Wine is crimson with a hint of brown. Moderately clear and bright. Fairly well colored.

On nose, really redolent of an aged Oregon pinot noir! Red fruit, forest, touch of menthol, but overall bright toned. Little bit of anise, too.

On palate, wine is sound. Hints of tertiary tobacco flavors starting to come through, but there's still fruit and earth. Tannins are softened by this point. Good acid holding it up.

Overall, this is really great! Not the mythical transcendent Burgundy experience but a very nice wine regardless.

Black cherries, earth, mint, smokey oak (!?).
If a blind tasting, there is no chance you could guess Volnay. Powerful, sweetish, black fruited flavors, hints of warmth on both the nose and the palate. The heat of 2009 vintage shines through here and I am not sure this is exactly a good thing.
Otherwise, this is a decent PN, but not very Burgundian in style.

PS: piercing acidity gives a throat burning effect. May be needs more time.

This is my 4th of 4 bottles of this lovely 1er Cru Red Burgundy.
Spicebox, cinnamon, vanilla bean, wet autumn leaves, red cherry pit, and plum.
The palate shows off perfectly balanced acidity with finely grained and perfectly resolved tannins, with elegant tart red cherry fruit alongside moist wood, dried tobacco leaf, and spices. A real winner, just gorgeously integrated and everything I would want paired with the pan-seared duck breast this evening. Delicious, drink now through 2020 or so.

PnP and served at 55 degrees. This wine is open for business. Pale to medium ruby. This has a very expressive nose of red fruit and spice. It's like crushed strawberry. There is also some type of herb in here. Little bit of rubbery note comes out too as the fifth element. Very alive palate. Supple texture. There is a lot of red fruit in this. Sappy and nicely ripe but not overdone. Bottle exceeded my expectations. Wish I had more. With more palate complexity and persistence, I'd have this in 93-94 territory.

Burgundies with Friends: A bold display on the nose: sweet cherries, cocoa, roses, toasted oak and bourbon. Juicy fruit on the palate, dense structure, this is grippy and young, showing gobs of plump cherry fruit. Some black tea, violets, herbs underneath, but the fruit is still dominant, primary. Still, the flavors and depth are on point. I'd bury this for a eight or ten years and hopefully awesomeness will ensue.

Lovely bottle of Burgundy, I brought it in my checked-in luggage (back) to France! Enjoyed it with my family in the garden area outside the hotel. No formal TN, but nicely ripened red cherries and pomegranate, with spice and soil notes. Smooth and integrated tannins, drink now through 2022+.

Tasted this wine next to a 2010 Joseph Swan Great Oaks Pinot.
This Burgundy has succumb to cork taint, alas. It is not extreme, but evident nonetheless. Shows up as faint wet cardboard and dusty cigarette ash. The nose is otherwise muted, with background aromas of burnt rubber, cooked asparagus, and faint spice.
The palate was thin at first, but started to open up after 30 mins in the glass, revealing nicely structured tannins, medium body, quite ample acidity, but the fruit seems to be cloaked by the cork taint.
This is my 2nd of 4 bottles. The 1st wasn't very impressive either. If this wine were unaffected by cork taint, I believe it would score around 90-91 pts and drink well through 2022 or so.

Opened Nicely with great light color and strong typical barny smell that softened quickly for this vintage. Very soft and medium bodied with low acidity. Enjoyed with grilled steak and vegetables. 3 More in the cellar to age or very drinkable now at 10 years old.
