Enjoyed over two days. Blueberry cream and wintergreen mint candy, Yeah!...mint. Well framed and wearing its alcohol well. The wine declined a little by the second, though it remained very appealing.

Taking this magnum out of the bin to show friends, noticed signs of leakage. Upon inspection, the bottle was 1/2 empty and the cork was floating in the wine. No point on saving for a retirement party....
Taking off the cracked wax capsule, about 500cc of wine decanted.
Color- med tawny brown; nose of brown sugar, vanilla, sl nutty; sweet but very balanced light flavors of caramel, hazelnuts, dried currants. Profile like a old colheita but acidity making it light and crisp rather than cloying. Long smooth finish with almost fino sherry after taste. Amazing surprise after the disappointment of finding the bottle 1/2 empty with a fallen cork......

Simple fruit forward porto, this is drinking fine now. This is possibly more enjoyable than your upper end ruby's, but there is some heat on the back end and it doesn't show particularly well after 2+ days. At $25 at Grocery Outlet, its not a bad buy, but its not a screaming deal either.

Monthly Tasting Group LTB 2014-05; Portugal red except Douro (by EvA): In the bouquet red fruits, spices and some nutty flavors. Same on the palate. A developed and round port wine, but unfortunately there is considerable heat in the finish. 87 – 88.

Mostly Paso but some other interesting stuff (Scott & Jo's): My first time hearing of this house or trying its wines. Scott actually served two bottles. He had planned on blending them but were different enough so he served as is. They were very similar but one was certainly more elegant, refined and a better wine. The other had some green notes on the nose mostly, and a lot more heat on the finish. No idea if there were multiple bottlings of this. Both were purple in color. A nose with some black cherries, slight dark chocolate and a whiff of alcohol. On the palate, these were nice. Black cherry fruit. Slight sweetness. I don't remember anyone declaring 1995 a vintage year, so that is unusual. A fun finish.

Light tawny appearance, lots of sediment. Oaky, spicy, and nutty bouquet. The mid-to-full bodied palate is governed by a spicy and woodsy character but there's enough dried fruit and autolytic sweetness remaining to balance things out. The finish is warm and soothing. Not too shabby.

Suave notes of coco powder, carob, and molasses. Solidly structured, resolved, and probably near peak. Enjoy by 2020-2022.

Friday Night with the Beasts (The Papies, Elizabeth St, London): Bought at auction by a friend, no label, no clue other that is a very old port. The solid cork gave us the data we needed both name and vintage one it clearly stated.
Decanted through a filter for a good 3 hours and this could have used more.
Soft but spirited, gentle and elegant but with a lot of presence in a way that only old vintage port can walk both paths at the same time. Impressive and an excellent experience. No real need to rate.

Second Sunday Group: 1994 Ports (Zoom): Double blind. Lighter in color than the rest of the flight and also the most different from the others. We were told there was a ringer and I believe all of us thought this must have been it. Opens with red and black fruit, shows a bit of alc as well. Dark fruit on the palate, a touch of raisin; good sweetness. Has a nice vein of acidity. Lighter than the others in terms of body too. Develops a subtle toffee note that I quite like. Nice fruit, soft and sweet.

My #7, Domino's #5
Group #6, 82 pts

1994 was called the best vintage since 1927 with a textbook weather pattern and bottles that should not to be opened for 25-30 years. We're now in the heart of that drinking window.

Deep ruby with moderate bricking in the glass.

Nose shows a distinct woody / cedar note with blueberry, raisin and cranberry.

The palate is silky and long with high acidity and hot alcohol.

Spicy flavours with prune, plum and violets.

Drink now.

Dark and opaque for its age, rich flavors of fruit cake and dark chocolate. Finish lingers forever.
