3/26/2021 - The Drunken Cyclist Likes this wine: 92 pointsRetail $35. Big Ass Bottle. 98% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot. 18 months in 85% New American Oak. The Aquilini family is changing the status quo on Red Mountain. A few years ago, they shocked the local community by purchasing, essentially, every last available acre in the tiny appellation (670 acres in total). While that ruffled a few feathers (there were several groups trying to pool their cash together to buy different parcels within that 670 acre total). This is (as far as I can tell) the eighth brand from the Aquilini's extensive purchases in the Columbia Valley (the 670 acres on Red Mountain are just a fraction of their recent acquisitions). This wine? Yes. Finally. And close to a whoa. Plum, blackberry, cassis, black pepper, vanilla, I could go on about the nose, but that would be pretentious (and I avoid pretention at [almost] all costs). The palate is rich and layered, unctuous, delicious, and balanced. Yeah, I dig this wine. While, like the red blend, this might need a bit more time (there are some chunky tannins on the finish), it is fantastic now and more than worthy of the tariff. Do you find this review helpful? 12/14/2022 - The Drunken Cyclist Likes this wine: 92 pointsRetail $30. Big. Ass. Bottle. 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 4% Malbec, 4% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc. I lost count as to how many vintages of the Aquilini brand I have sampled, but it is close to a handful. This 10000 Hours Cab is both compelling and housed in a completely ridiculously heavy bottle. Really? I have already lamented the fact that Canadians (e.g., the Aquilini Family) try to posit themselves as environmental stewards, but this bottle? Holy environmental Holocaust, this is an abomination. Wait, the wien? You are wondering about the contents of this weapon of murderous proportions? Yeah, I hate to admit it, but it is pretty darned good. Dark fruit (cassis, plum), clove, pine needle, and verve reside in the glass, with fruit, tartness, earth, and, well, verve, also come through on the palate. Close to a whoa. But that bottle? Holy mother of jesus. #DoBetter |

3/26/2021 - The Drunken Cyclist Likes this wine: 89 pointsRetail $35. Big Ass Bottle. 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc. 18 months in 50% New American Oak. This is the newest (?) brand from the Aquilini family, and it appears to be focused solely on Red Mountain, the smallest and best (?) appellation in Washington. So all five Bordeaux varieties in the blend here and it works. Good fruit on both the nose (blackberry, cassis) and the palate (plum, cassis, black raspberry). The palate has an ample amount of acidity and even more prominent tannins--this might be on the market a tad early, but it is pretty darned good. |

11/17/2022 - The Drunken Cyclist Likes this wine: 93 pointsRetail $35. Big. Ass. Bottle. 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc. From the Aquilini family in Canada, this bottle dispels the myth that all Canadians are environmentally conscious. Deep rich color, with blackberry pie à la mode a go-go on the nose along with spice (clove) and a touch of earth. Close to a whoa before the first sip. The palate is also rich and luscious without being over-bearing. The initial fruit is joined by the zingy tartness and a bit of heat on the mid-palate, then by some subtle tannins right before the lengthy finish. At thirty-five bucks? This is a steal. You also get a free murder weapon once you have finished the wine. #DoBetter |

3/13/2023 - Sauvyfan Likes this wine: 93 pointsWhat a discovery. The pedigree is there. Tremendous source fruit. A little green on the nose upon opening, but in a good way. You can immediately sense the depth of this wine from the nose. I drank it over three night and it just kept getting better. Fuller, rounder, more complex. Each night introduced a different character to the play. Give it a three hour decant and enjoy. |

4/18/2023 - Canoehead Likes this wine: 90 pointsI’m typically skeptical of gimmicky wines and labels. However, this is solid stuff. It was a fine wine at pop n pour. Yet 30-40 minutes in it entered wow status. Good integrated fruit, acid and alcohol with fine tannins in the background. Compelling QPR. |

2/18/2022 - The Drunken Cyclist Likes this wine: 91 pointsRetail $34. Big ass bottle. Red Mountain 100% Syrah. Aged 20 months in 30% new French oak. Another wine from the Aquilini family, a titan of industry in Canada and now a major player in the #WaWine scene. Quite dark in the glass with a meaty nose with dark fruit and spice. The palate is well-balanced with dark fruit, acidity, earthy and spicy notes, and some soft tannins on the finish. I have to say that while a tad rough around the edges, this wine sings. Fantastic. |
