10/21/2006 - Violalto wrote: 81 pointsMedium opacity garnet colour. Smelling of cherries and under ripe fruit mixed with some wood this presented an aggressive attack at the front of the mouth with badly integrated overall balance of small fruit, wood and tanins. |

1/6/2016 - Violalto Likes this wine: 89 pointsDark cherry, somewhat opaque. Vanilla and dark fruit can almost be seen, let alone smelt, before putting your nose to the glass. A very full, chewy mouthful, mellow tannins and well balanced. I can see why this has been highly rated but it can be almost too overpowering for food. |

7/12/2022 - Violalto wrote: 89 pointsSherry like oxidization, typical from this region. Dirty gold colour, balanced acidity and quite a full mouthful for this type of appellation. Went well with fish in a butter sauce followed by cheeses. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

12/31/2005 - Violalto wrote: flawedI have never had a bottle that was as flawed as this. It was impossible to get my nose anywhere near it, it stank so much. After a day in the decanter I hoped the pong may have blown off a bit but it had not. Pinching my nose I still tried to taste a sip, just in case.....and down the drain it went along with the rest of the contents of the decanter. A crying shame as this was opened at a special occasion and had been one of two bottles my late step-father had left me. I am now scared to open the other and get the same result. |

1/3/2009 - Violalto wrote: 84 pointsPurple/garnet colour. Slightly funky nose, with field berries, mushrooms and a vanilla background. The flavor was limited to the front of the mouth never developing a fullness or bass tone. While this was a typical old style Bordeaux type of wine, I don't think I will be buying any more. |

1/2/2009 - Violalto wrote: 89 pointsQuite opaque with a lightening and slight bricking around the edges. Initial smell was of green olives, black cherries, undertones of leather. Quite bright in the mouth opening up with lovely undertones and a good length. Not as full as I expected but very much appreciated by all. |

1/2/2009 - Violalto wrote: NROpaque, dark inky garnet. Balsam fir, acetone, black cherries on the nose, well balanced and full in the mouth, although there are some tannins that need to be tamed, closing down the full flavor before it can develop. I would wait another year or two at least before opening another bottle. Very good. |

7/18/2010 - Violalto wrote: 90 points14 years old and still holding up beautifully. Showing some signs of age through the bricking of the colour. Still lots of red fruit backed up by subtle vanilla. The taste is long and full, with a nice dialogue between the fruit and the acidity. The tannins are totally integrated now, so if you should have a bottle of this, drink up! |

1/5/2016 - Violalto Likes this wine: 90 pointsDark purple, semi opaque.Dark berries, woody, bacon, a dense nose, pepper. A very full mouthful, full of ripe fruit, heavy and long. Long taste. This is not a 'delicate' wine by any stretch of the imagination and was at the limit for drinking with a cassoulet without overpowering it. |

1/23/2016 - Violalto Likes this wine: 88 pointsA good wine. Dark cherry/garnet. Nose of pepper and smoke, dark fruit. Nicely balanced in the mouth rioe fruit coming through. Medium length with some tanins present, suggesting this is stil good for at least another 3 years. Worth buying again. |

1/3/2009 - Violalto wrote: 89 pointsBeautiful amber color, as suggested by the label. Honey, fruitcake and caramel on the nose. I made the mistake of drinking this too cold at first. Smooth sweetness buoyed up dried apricot and caramel flavors. Quite a long and pleasant length. I will try it again. |

1/6/2016 - Violalto Likes this wine: 89 pointsWhat a difference a year or two makes! Medium garnet coloured, Wonderful nose of raspberry with an animal undertone, chrysanthemum. Boy, has this changed in the mouth. Gone is the acidity, leaving behind a well balanced medium to full mouthful, with medium to long taste. Totally differnt from the last time. This had so much 'weight' to it I would have pegged it as a good example of a new world pinot rather than coming from Burgundy. Does this mean ita worth sitting on my burgs for a longer time to allow this transformation or was this a bottling fluke/inconsistancy with the previously tasted bottle? |

12/18/2012 - Violalto wrote: 85 pointsThe wine looks Garnet colored. The legs are Medium. It smells like Raspberry, Oak, Nutmeg, and Chrysanthemum. It tastes like Raspberry. The body is Light/Medium. The wine has Bright texture. The wine is quite tart and has a medium finish. Needs to be drunk with food (Salmon, veal shnitzel, chicken with cream sauce etc) because I find it too tart to drink alone. Does not really improve with decanting. Please note that I still have some issues with Burgundy...... |

4/6/2021 - Violalto Likes this wine: 90 pointsGolden straw colour, an interesting nose of toasted seaweed, roasted bagel sesame seeds, flint, mineral, some buttery back ground. A full round mouthful, starting with a slight honey feel, soon balanced by a refreshing acidity and a long finish. Great finesse and to be bought again. |

12/11/2008 - Violalto wrote: 91 pointsThe colour has deepened since last, to a lovely autumn gold. Honey and apples on the nose. There was an initial sweetness pierced by a citric acid flavour coming up from behind the palate. A very long taste and quite complex. Not your 'usual' bottle of white, but very enjoyable. |

1/30/2009 - Violalto wrote: 89 pointsExtremely dense and opaque with a vibrant purple showing at the rim. Intense nose of field berries, black olives, chocolate, seared steak and herbs from the garrigue. Full bodied and chewy, this wine is still too young to drink as the tanins clamp down on what I am sure will be be a long aftertaste once they have mellowed with time. I really enjoyed this wine. I will not open another bottle for another two or three years. |

10/25/2013 - Violalto wrote: 90 pointsVery pale pink/brick red, beautiful raspberry and fine herbs on the nose, what I expect from a pinot. RaspBerries in the mouth complex but unfortunately drank too quickly to really savoir and take notes. Definitely a great wine made in the Burgundy style, and definitely QPR in comparison with their French cousins. Nothing to do with the steriodes version of pinot noir that I'd normally associated with North America. Pity I don't have more, but greatly appreciated. |

1/1/2021 - Violalto Likes this wine: 91 pointsVery much appreciated! Nose medium purple, medium opacity, slight bricking at the rim. First blast of ripe blackberries, followed by hot wet stone, leather, some vanilla undertones, allspice.A beautiful mouthful, well structured and balanced. The tannins are present although mellow. Just ripe plum comes to mind as an initial thought. |

1/3/2009 - Violalto wrote: NRDeep garnet color, reasonably complex nose smelling of prunes, dark fruit, slight smokiness, the garigue, with vanilla undertones. Quite lively at first giving way to a deeper mouthful. The tannins are still present suggesting another year or two of waiting would not hurt. This wine is biologically certified and grown on 32 hectares of land using the typical grapes of the region, namely Carignan, Syrah and Grenache. |
