2009 A.P. Vin Pinot Noir Rosella's VineyardSanta Lucia Highlands more |
4/20/2013 - DarinC Does not like this wine: 80 pointsSimilar tasting notes to the bottle I opened on 1/19/2013, except I'm lowering my score since the last bottle wasn't an aberration. This wine is too over done IMO and the alcohol is way out of balance. Only one person at the party cared for it enough to drink it, and he's not picky. These are developing poorly. |

1/19/2013 - DarinC wrote: 85 pointsDark red fruit with prominent cherry cola notes. Very ripe. Medium+ body and finish. Consumed over 4 hrs and showed best over the first two at 60-65 degrees. As the temperature increased the alcohol was increasingly distracting. Didn't evolve much in the glass either. I see no reason to hold these. |

10/26/2023 - DarinC Likes this wine: 97 pointsPnP and consumed over ~10hrs. Very showy right out of the gate! Absolutely massive with complex aromas of black plums, berries, chocolate and spices. Lush and full on the palate with fine, mouth coating tannins on the long finish. Some earth and graphite as well. Drank beautifully the first three hours then started to close in showing more tannins and structure at the end of the bottle. This could continue to pleasantly evolve but is in a great place now. Don't hesitate to open one. |

2008 Achával-Ferrer Malbec Finca AltamiraLa Consulta more |
1/17/2015 - DarinC Likes this wine: 95 pointsSimilar to my note 1 year ago. Achaval Ferrer makes some of the most interesting, complex, and balanced malbecs in Argentina. Not your typical fruit bomb malbec. There's fruit, but also tobacco, herbs and minerals. Did not need much air to show well. I wouldn't hesitate to PnP or do a splash decant. |

12/30/2013 - DarinC Likes this wine: 95 pointsFantastic bottle with many levels of complexity. Pure black berry fruits, herbs, and earth. Deceptively medium bodied with a cascading finish where the few remaining tannins show. Some people may label the slight herbaceousness as being too green but I think it's just the right amount. |

2007 Achával-Ferrer Malbec Perdriel Finca Bella VistaMendoza more |
12/12/2011 - DarinC wrote: 92 pointsMore elegant and not as ripe or concentrated as the 08. A complex nose of fresh crushed black and blueberries along with flowers, minerals herbs and bellpepper. The midpalate is a bit hollow initially but gains some weight after 2hrs in the glass. Medium+ finish wth a bit of oak. Nice balance. Very enjoyable, and a nice change from the super-ripe malbecs that are so prevalent. |

10/31/2016 - DarinC Likes this wine: 95 pointsNeeded some air to show well, but wow, this is a interesting, serious, masculine wine! Notes of black and red fruit with prominent iron dominant minerality. Some floral, spice and coal elements in the background. Plenty of ripe structure and concentration yet only 12.5 alc! I'm really looking forward to aging these 5-15 years. This is worth seeking out. |

1984 Alexander Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignonmore |
9/19/2014 - DarinC Likes this wine: 87 pointsPnP This was surprisingly very good. Excellent concentration with black fruit, tobacco, leather. Full and soft in the mouth. Medium plus finish with few tannins remaining. I'd drink soon as the fruit is starting to fade. Not very complex, but an enjoyable drink if you like mature cabernet. |

1990 Alexander Valley Vineyards Zinfandel Sin Zinmore |
2/9/2015 - DarinC Likes this wine: 88 pointsPnP from a bottle that's been stored at 57F with a near perfect fill. Heavy bricking with an orange-brown color. Loads of sediment. Pleasant nose of baked black cherries, spices, light caramel and red apple skins. Similar notes on the palate with ample spiciness. Surprising finish that resonates. Our low expectations were blown away. Definitely drink now. |

2007 Altamura Cabernet SauvignonNapa Valley more |
11/27/2013 - DarinC Likes this wine: 90 pointsBrooding and mostly closed upon opening. After 2 hours in the bottle it began to open up a bit to show very ripe plums, blackberry jam, cassis, and chocolate, with a hint of spice. Full and rich with a moderate finish. Even with a coolish 70F serving temp it showed some distracting heat. Nowhere near as expressive or complex as it was on release. |

10/12/2013 - DarinC Likes this wine: 90 pointsVery ripe and rich, with a full, plush, mouth-feel. Black fruit, cocoa, baking spices, some red fruit. Very long finish with a trace of heat. There's definitely some residual sugar apparent, which seems to be this producer's style. If you're a fan of Caymus, you'll like this. |

11/19/2014 - DarinC Likes this wine: 92 pointsSWAPDOC nailed the notes. Just be sure to let it breathe if the heat distracts. Plenty of structure and tannins. This should be great in 10 years. 92+ |

10/31/2016 - DarinC Likes this wine: 88 pointsBright red fruits and acid driven for a malbec. Nice interpretation of the varietal. I'd prefer some more clarity and definition. Good food wine. Should improve over the next 2-5 years and hold several more. |

2007 Alysian Wines Pinot Noir Rochioli Vineyard, Allen-Rochioli BlocksRussian River Valley more |
9/2/2015 - DarinC Likes this wine: 93 pointsCHAINTHROWER really described this wine well in his detailed notes. I feel this is nearing or at peak. It's still mostly primary, but the tannins have resolved and the Allen block isn't know for its ability to age many years. I'm not a huge Russian River pinot fan, but this is complex, balanced and thoroughly enjoyable! |

2005 Castello di Amorosa SangioveseNapa Valley more |
5/2/2014 - DarinC Likes this wine: 88 pointsThis is my favorite wine produced here. Bright red and black cherry, raspberry with some minerals and tannins showing on the medium finish. Slightly aggressive acidity that mellows with air. Pairs well with many foods. Shows best after 30+ minutes in the glass. |

11/1/2014 - DarinC Likes this wine: 87 pointsOne of the better wines from this producer. A more restrained style, by Napa standards. Medium body with bright flavors and the structure and acidic backbone that allows this to pair well with many foods. One for the dinner table. Drink over the next 5-10 years. |

2/28/2014 - DarinC Likes this wine: 97 pointsPerfect cork and near perfect fill. PnP from a clearly well-stored bottle I purchased at auction. Mature, with loads of ripe black and dark red fruits, cigar box, leaves and spices. A hint of minerality. Fully integrated and fills the palate. So much rich, ripe fruit that it deceptively drinks more like a 90 than 89. Really an awesome wine. Hard to find any flaws. Drink now. |

2010 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru ChampansPinot Noir more |
12/20/2014 - DarinC Likes this wine: 95 pointsPnP. Spectacular nose of cinnamon, bright red and dark cherries, light herbs, red plums, and traces of soil tones. Medium-bodied, elegant mouthfeel with layers of red fruit and spices. Singing after just a few minutes in the glass. Medium + finish. Perfect balance. Clean. Softened up significantly on day 2. I preferred the vibrancy and delicacy of the initially showing on day one. |

10/31/2016 - DarinC Likes this wine: 89 pointsPnP Bright red cherry, strawberry, raspberry and roses. Hints of minerality and spice. Medium body and the structure to age 8-10 years. Needs a good 2-3 years in the cellar to do it justice. Very nice. My first wine from this producer. I'm looking forward to tasting more from their portfolio. 89+ |

2007 Anomaly Vineyards Cabernet SauvignonSt. Helena more |
12/26/2013 - DarinC Likes this wine: 93 pointsThis has really nice violet and floral elements to it, along with fresh blackberries, black cherries, light spices, and some blue fruit. Medium to full-bodied, with fine tannins that are mostly resolved. Good balance. It improved slightly with after a couple minutes in the glass and started to decline with extended aeration. On the moderately elegant side of the Napa Valley spectrum. It's definitely in a great spot now and should hold a few more years. |
