12/3/2008 - fries wrote: NRPale yellow, slightly greyish. Delicate aromas of apples and tropical fruits, with the oak showing through. Palette is straightforward, slightly mineral apples with a twist of citrus, mild oaky finish. Moderate acidity. A pleasant wine, but one that left me wanting something else... the fruit is pretty muted. |

1/6/2010 - fries wrote: NRDrank over two nights, no decant, little or no sediment in the bottle. Deep purple-red, nearly opaque in the glass. Fruity, blackberries, gamey / meaty, a little spicy, maybe even a little tar / rubber on the nose. Palette is smooth, jammy, medium-bodied with soft tannins. Good... an impressively concentrated Foch from the hot 2006 summer on Vancouver Island. There were moments that the nose reminded me a little of some malbecs I've had recently... high praise indeed for a Van Island red. |

5/15/2010 - fries Likes this wine: NRGorgeous copper hue. Slightly muted nose of warm apples, peaches and a touch of vanilla. Palate has the barrel-fermented plushness with peachy / citrusy fruit and moderate acid. Overall, the fruit is a little muted, but still enjoyable. A good match with grilled spot prawns. |

8/23/2009 - fries wrote: NRDecanted for about an hour before pouring. Light ruby red, less colour that I remember from the 04 and 05. Beautiful aroma: black cherries, baking spices, licorice. Palatte is silky, with just enough acidity and a little mineral twist. Long finish. Very impressive effort, a bit more subtle and integrated than previous vintages. |

12/3/2012 - fries wrote: flawedWSET Level 2 Class 7 (BCIT Downtown Campus, Vancouver, BC): Tasted blind. Clear, medium+ ruby. Nose has a peculiar reduced funk, medium+ aromas of red berries, pepper, vanilla, sweet herbs. Palate is dry, medium acid, medium tannin, medium body, with flavours of bright red fruit... plum, red currant, and vanilla. Finish is medium-. Hard to assess quality... the overwhelming impression is the stinky nose.... possible flawed bottle. |

4/27/2010 - fries Likes this wine: NRLight-medium ruby red. Immediate and bold aromas of ripe red berries, sour cherries, herbal notes... very "fresh" nose. Palette is crisp, medium bodied, earthy red fruit, fine but assertive tannins, nice acidity. There's enough structure to support a couple more years in the bottle. Tonnes of personality in a reasonably priced baby Super-T. |

1/16/2010 - fries wrote: flawed[Composite Cork] Ugh... this was a disappointment. The nose was awful... any fruit that may have once existed in this wine was long gone, leaving nothing but acid and some nasty funky aromas akin to ripe cheese. Definitely not corked though... just old beyond it's years. The palette was little better, maybe a hint of red fruit, but then just acid and light tannins. I left it open on the counter overnight and the cheesy aroma went away, but nothing new appeared in its place. Upon dumping the bottle, there was no evidence of sediment, indicating that the wine never had much substance, so no surprise that it didn't age well. |

5/14/2010 - fries Likes this wine: NRDouble decanted, but little sediment in evidence. Ruby red with an orange rim. Gorgeous nose of black currents, dark raspberries, licorice, black pepper, a touch of vanilla and a herbal note. Nice savory palette with lots of earthy fruit, medium bodied with moderate tannins and tangy acidity. Medium length finish. Great value in a nicely aged negroamaro blend. |

4/10/2010 - fries Likes this wine: NR[Composite cork] Medium ruby red. Immediate aromas of dark berries backed up by cherries and oak. Very soft tannins, fruity palette that's more sangiovese than cab-merlot, and decent acid crispness on the finish. Simple, enjoyable Toscana rosso. |

8/21/2009 - fries wrote: NROver an hour in the decanter before drinking with bison steaks. Nose is bold and complex: cassis, black olives, brambles, smoke, spice, some herby / mentholy notes, restrained oak. Smooth in mouth, moderate tannins, long finish. Not at all "jammy", very well defined dark fruit. Much more refined than this time last year, but seems like there's considerable upside to waiting a year or two. |

Reasonably tasty for the price, but sacrifices finesse and structure for ripeness. |
