This is a really good sauvignon blanc. Lovely pale yellow in color with a huge aroma of pear, peach, apricot and ocean air. Flavors of peach, faint lemon and super minerality that lasts. Acidity is well meshed with a generally smooth body. A simple wine which was perfect with chicken.

1/19/2021 4:13:00 PM - I suspect, from your description, that you made the same error I did when I recorded my purchase of this wine. You have posted under the Rouge version of this wine, which is a pinot noir. I suspect you are drinking the Domaine Dominique et Janine Crochet Sancerre, without the "rouge". Don

I thought this one might be too early, but it was drinking well. Full, rich, nicely blended, but curiously generic without any particular grape emerging. Not too surprising for a blend, I guess, but at the price point thought it would have had more distinction. Still, it was a nice bottle, and glad I have more to see its evolution.

Gave it lots of air and it still needed some more time to open up and we were amply rewarded. Incredibly complex Zin-the fruit was not restrained, but very dark and/or red, somewhere between medium-bodied and robust, yet elegant...not quite smooth but trending to that. Acidity makes this very food friendly. Varietally correct, but the spice I like in Zins was restrained.
Really fantastic wine for the money, but needs either lots of air or a few more years. Not a popn'pour.

Big wine, still closed. PnP'd. A little unbalanced at the moment. Fruit seems suppressed; may not have enough to outlast the tannins. Gassed the remaining bottle; let's see how this one evolves. Could turn wonderful in a few years.

8/6/2019 6:34:00 AM - Hello Dave. I didn't post an update, but re-opening the bottle suggests that the 2024 date or a few years later is probably a good end date, at least that's my impression. I'm going to wait a year to open my next one of these and can give an update then. I tend to like Spanish reds on the "older" side of their nominal drinking window. I think that in good quality wines, the fruit in earlier years evolves into a subtle melange of flavors. The 2014 vintage is reputed to be early maturing, so it probably won't improve for decades, as do some of these wines.

In a tasting of vintages 2011, 2012, and 2013. This finished #2 slightly behind 2011 and way ahead of 2012. OK bottle for Tuesday night. I was clearly missing some of what other reviewers tasted.

  • Comment posted by LightDancer:

8/11/2019 6:34:00 AM - Hi Dave. I'd suggest waiting, if you have alternatives. When I last had this in May, my impression was that it hadn't fully integrated. Still, Tessellae wines are good for a party. I just think 2013 will be better in another year or two. Don

8/11/2019 8:47:00 AM - Wonderful tale, Dave. And a good move! As to waiting five years, my guess is that most of the fruit will be gone then. Party guests generally associate fruitiness with easy drinking. So, maybe not.

Leather and cedar with blackberry; still well knit and supple; acidic and tannic on backbone and somewhat imbalanced; composed with sweet blackberry finish.

1/4/2019 10:40:00 AM - I've had a bottle of '79 Pichon Lalande in 2014 that seemed over the hill. But enjoyed another last September that was fine -- perhaps I didn't let the first one come together in the decanter. My notes on the second reflect a similar experience to yours. Nice to compare! An upgrade from my previous comments. Three months since I'd last tasted this. No port, no raisins, no sweetness. Very well balanced at this point. Various fruits (all black and blue). Pleasant nose, medium body, and a decent finish. Nothing to get excited about, but it was a nice middle-of-the-road zinfandel (blend). Seems to be at its peak.

12/8/2019 2:41:00 AM - I read your comments on Scout's Honor with interest. I thought the bottle we opened last night was excellent. As I noted in my write-up, your comment suggests that I've been neglecting California Zins! I have about a case of Ridge Lytton Springs in three vintages -- 2009, 2013, and 2014 -- that are resting in my cellar, but that's all the Zins I have. What else should I try?

A bit harsher this time than I would have expected, given my prior experience with these wines. Decanted, and it smoothed out a bit. Lots of fruit but just a bit out of balance. Try again.

Amazing value, still. Berry and a hint of chocolate. Very well integrated and balanced. Fully developed, but showing no sign of fading. Down to the last three bottles of a wonderful case. Two days later finished the bottle (it was gassed). Flavors and aromas continued to evolve well. Hints of leather, pipe smoke, cedar, and a more distinctive cherry. Delicious.
