Upon opening two bottles, both of which tasted and smelled exactly the same, the wine was dominated by heavy tannins, so I decanted it in cellar for about 4 hours before serving. By mealtime (prime rib), the tannins had resolved nicely, but the wine felt "heavy", there was no lift to balance the dark fruit flavors of the wine. The wine was good, but there was no excitement in drinking it, and I had hoped for more at this price point. Perhaps it had been open too long? |

2/8/2024 - mxpbuy Likes this wine: 89 pointsSampled over 3 nights, preserved with vin-vac. 1st night after 90 minutes in the glass, still tight with too much Oak and grippy tannins but some rich dark berries underneath (87 pts). 2nd night after 60 minutes, remarkably smoother with Oak much better resolved; layered dark fruits, dried herbs and touch of spice (90 pts). 3rd night after 30 minutes, the wine was smooth but the Oak was back the the fruits were turning a touch too pruney (88 pts). My guess is that this wine is best after 2 to 3 hours of air, but it really only holds well together for a couple hours thereafter. No sediment and color is very solid, so perhaps this wine is still evolving with a long way to go. I've got one left. I'll sit on it for a few more years to see what becomes of it. |

Long finish of fresh blackberries and dark chocolate notes. I have always enjoyed the blends that Behrens produces and this is a great example of the synergies that can be achieved (80% Cab, 10% P. Verdot, 10% Merlot). |

Drank at a restaurant after starting with a bottle of cab-based Bordeaux, and it was a bit of a jarring transition from the 1st to the 2d bottle. Bottle was open at home for an hour, then decanted at restaurant approx. 1 hour before drinking. Beautiful, fragrant full-bodied wine, no hint of green pepper that you sometimes get with a Cab Franc predominant blend. Very good mouthfeel, but still with excitement on the palate. Nice finish. |
