One hour decant. Dark dark purple, almost black in the glass. This is giving off loads of sediment. Strong black and blue berry aromas. Tastes immediately like a blackberry liqueur infused chocolate truffle. These notes didn’t evolve much at all over a three hour drinking window. The tannins are smoothly integrated. Super high alcohol. It reads 15.5% but tastes much stronger—almost like a port.

This is an enjoyable wine, if much more rich and high-alcohol than my normal style, and seems like it’ll last forever (as per Parker’s review). I might give it a very long decant next time to see if and how it evolves.

Immediately upon pouring you can see this wine is light, bordering on barely opaque. So much so that I checked the label one more time to be sure. Yep, it says Pinot Noir.

Despite the age on the bottle and given that I don't see this as something to age much longer, it still needs time to decant. The first impression on the nose and palate is thin, high alcohol, high acid. An hour later and it had mellowed quite a bit. Red and black fruit emerged and the wine overall became more rounded. More balanced with subtlety. Not amazingly so, just more so. I suggest a full 2 hours to decant before trying as it continued to improve with air.

Not my favorite from this producer but a respectable effort at a California Pinot Noir.

Nice big wine. On the nose: dark rich red fruit— boysenberry if you press me. Hint of cherry and oak. On the palate: bold, big, & tannic. A slightly dry wine. Flavors of plum, leather, & cocoa on the finish. Not for the timid. Enjoy!

Deep ruby/purple color. Aromas of ripe black fruit with hints of lavender, smoked meat and graphite. The palate is full of intense black berry/currant/plum fruit with notes of dark chocolate, tobacco and roasted meat. Very earthy, savory and lengthy finish. Velvety (Merlot-like) texture and dusty tannins. Extremely well balanced. Outstanding!

Didn’t realize it was a Zin/Red blend. Makes much more sense now with its flavor profile. Tasty and big enough to pair with meats and cheeses or drink on its own.

If the score is an expression of how closely the wine approximates the ideal (considering grape, region, etc.) I would rate this lower. But it really is an enjoyable wine with lots of layers and complexity. It's a California Pinot Noir that defies description. Not in the style of California. But not in the style of Burgundy either. Something entirely different. Central Coast Pinot on steroids. Darker fruit than I've come to expect from California Pinot. Heavier on the palate as well. More prominent tannins and less acidity are more reminiscent of Cabernet than Pinot. This is not a pool-side Pinot. This is Pinot with gravitas.

Punches you in the face, nothing subtle about this one. Serve it up to those who like big bold fruit-forward reds. Oaky goodness abounds here. Is that coconut I taste? It’s very good and very well made, but the QPR ain’t it IMO.

Deep purple. Intense black and blue fruit aromas, vanilla and oak spices. heavy body, no additional complexity , very hot. The alcohol is completely unbalanced. There are basic 17% abv Amarone's with more finesse. Medium finish. This drinks like a wine based cocktail. Terrible QPR, there are far better zins for half the price.

Cork removed without issue. No evidence of any seepage, Color -deep dark red edge to opaque purple. Strong initial nose of stewed fruit - secondary nose of tomato, basil/herbs, and cedar. Palate- heavy, full bodied wine with a creamy texture, berry and vegetal/green leafy/herb notes on palate and into finish with soft tannins noted. Despite the ABV of 15.5%, I did not find any problematic alcoholic heat to note. Finish was medium to long. I am neutral on this wine. Overall, It is good (and interesting -with some complexity), but doesn't have a flavor profile or structure that I prefer.

A tricky wine to rate. This Petite Sirah offers beautiful dark fruit, which is very much suggested by its bold and rich color. It paired nicely right from the bottle with a burger. It was the last wine of the evening with several friends and bottles. The next day it was equally wonderful but in a different way. The acidity and tannins understandably lessened and the fruit remained. Even so it was still nicely balanced but more reminiscent of its Syrah lineage, confirming this wine can benefit from more time in the bottle or in a decanter after opening.

You know the song “Too Much” by the Dave Matthew’s Band? Or been tempted by ultra-premium foreign sports sedans where a double turbocharged V-8 is squeezed into the space normally reserved for a V-6? Well this that kind of wine, pushing the envelope to the absolute max. Sweet, powerful, tasty, full of fruit, alcohol, glycerin, concentrated spices. Really good, but like drinking port in larger pours throughout dinner. Almost headache-inducing even before bedtime. Too much.
