One of the most beautiful Rieslings ever made and still drinking in a youthful state. Deep gold in color, this wine was filled with exuberant fruit such as apricots, apples and pears. Superb minerality from its terroir and a little horseradish from the botrytis. Plenty of acidity nicely balances this legendary wine. 50+14+14+9+9=96 |

I'm not sure I have an answer as I'd say get enough to do both! Definitely the next coming of the 1994, this is starting to shed some of its baby fat and show itself. While still primary in many ways this is beginning to show its own character. While the 1994 changes to dry on the palate entry, this wine hits the front of the palate still sweet and then quickly changes to dry in the mouth. The nose jumps out of the glass with a great exuberance, ripe apricots, pineapple, lychee, raisins - all with keeping its peaty Rangen roots. Nicely sweet but plenty of acidity to wash it off the palate and then leave a very long glow of a finish. Still drinking quite young. 50+15+15+10+10=100 |

When some became available in 2014 I jumped on it and this is the first to be opened. Concerned that it could not live up to my memories, this quickly changed. Beyond exuberant on the nose with peaches and rainier cherries giving way on the palate to Gewurz typical spices that linger forever on the finish. Rich and concentrated and loaded with very clean botrytis. It's tough to find a flaw in this wine. Boy would it be great with dessert at Thanksgiving! 50+15+15+10+10=100 |

Loaded with red fruits across the spectrum. Glycerol in a way only the finest Grenache can achieve. Fruit and acidity are in perfect balance and the finish is long. No decanting time prior to dinner but it did continue to open while in the decanter and the glass during the 2 hours it was consumed. At a perfect spot right now but should drink well for another 15 years. A lasting tribute to the recently lost Mr. Bonneau. 50+15+14+9.5+9.5=98 |

Apricots, pluots and a woodsy truffle-like aroma dominate the nose. On the palate the flavors follow and the entry is massive like a tsunami hitting the senses. Wonderful depth and concentration to the fruit mixes with acidity that makes sure every nook and cranny of the mouth are coated. The back palate and finish move from massive to almost delicate. Only a trick Prum can pull off. I know top notch dessert wines very well and this was stunning even by my high standards. Will easily drink well for 50-100 years. 50+15+15+10+10=100 |

While slightly muted on the nose, the palate was loaded with red fruits such as cherries, red plums and even pomegranate. Yes, I said red fruits instead of the expected black fruit spectrum. Elegant in a way no other US Syrah achieves. Aging as if it was a Chave but more fruit forward instead of the stony and mine rally Chave. Glad I still have more. 50+13+14+9+9=95 |

After 2 dry Rieslings with meats and cheeses we had this before starting to cook dinner. Originally scheduled to have with the semi-spicy Indian dinner where it probably would have shown better. Dark Amber in color as it has been almost from the start showing the heavy botrytis influence ( I believe this has the most residual sugar of the 4 '94 VT Pinot Gris' by a large distance if I remember correctly ). Great apricot and mirabelle flavors mix with the horseradish typical flavor of botrytis and leads into a very long and lingering finish. 50+13+13+9+9=94 2 people found this helpful, do you? I love opening this wine for someone who has never had it as it is a great trick to play on people ( and also one of my favorite wines ). Tough competition sitting in a glass next to the '89 Rangen Riesling but it held its own just fine. Very sweet and rich fruit aromas on the nose giving the impression that this will be a sweet VT like wine. On the palate nothing could be further than this as it is completely dry while retaining enough richness to never be austere. Windsbuhl smoke mixes with fresh apples and citrus on the palate and leads into the very long finish. A great wine as always. 50+13.5+13.5+9+9=95 |

Green apples, slate, pears. Not showing the glow of fruit on the palate but this may have been the temperature. Nice acidity and a long finish. I have an abundance of '01 Prum but have not had one for at least 5-8 years as I feel they will be true classics given the proper aging. Kabinett seemed the right place to start. Surprisingly spritzy for a 14 year old wine, even Prum. Classic Sonnenuhr aromas jump out of the glass. Still tasting young but beginning to develop. Seems like more time will give these '01s the inner mouth glow of burnished fruit that the '90s are currently experiencing. 50+14+13+8.5+8.5=94 |
