The initial taste was like someone squeezed water out of wood. We let it sit a couple of hours to breathe. It improved a bit, but not enough to drink. Poured it down the drain. Have three more bottles and I surely hope this bottle was an odd ball flawed one!!! The highest score I could give it was 0!! Absolutely the WORST bottle of wine I have ever tasted, plus embarrassed in front of friends! Really screwed up my palate for a while!! |

8/22/2013 - missatiejacket Likes this wine: NRI don't just like it; I love it. I'm a big Chidaine fan in general, but this is really stupendous. While I've been loving '09 Bournais of late, this is airier, even ethereal in a way. There's a great lime and lime zest lift to the thing, with plenty of chalky mineral and that classic chenin wool. The wine is broad, but extremely focused, with great harmony and precision. Truly outstanding, and it should cost more than $25, but thankfully it does not. I will be drinking much more of this in the near future.

Fresh and baked apple (tart) and citrus pith combine with a lot of stony minerality, ginger, baking spice, and tahini. The sesame character is quite strong on the nose and continues on the palate, with the ginger/spice complimenting it nicely and making the wine taste almost like food. I would call this an oxidative style with quite a bit of complexity, and I'm fascinated, but I'm not really loving the flavor profile. That is so subjective, though, that I could see this wine really appealing to some people. It's unlike anything I've had, and reminds me a little bit of Selosse Substance in its interplay between oxidative character and vibrant fruit. There's certainly some energy to the wine. It's not worth the money to me as a regular purchase, but it was well worth checking out, and I might even get another bottle to taste with a group at some point.

12/28/2012 - missatiejacket Likes this wine: NRCompared to the Baker Ranch, this is much more what I'm looking for. Beautiful dark fruits, savory, meaty notes, crushed violet, olive, subtle black pepper on the nose. The palate follows through with plenty of complexity and concentration without too much weight. This is just beautiful cool-climate Syrah that I look forward to checking back in on in a few years. I love it. outstanding.
