(Decanted for one hour)
Ruby red colour with a mature nose showing liquorice and herbs at first. With time in the glass it opens up with notes of stables and forest floor. Smooth palate with mature tertiary notes of leather and dried fruit in a very pleasant way and with a long lasting finish. This was drinking very nicely still and should stay so over the coming decade.
(Probably best 1984-2004)

(Decanted for two hours)
Brick red colour with a very pleasant maturity on the nose showing chocolate, coffee and mocha at first. Opens up with sandal wood and violets showing a nice complexity. Silky smooth tannins on the palate with a nice maturity showing warm sweet blackberries, coffee and a touch of dried herbs. Still very alive and with a warm fruity touch having the over hand on the lengthy finish.
(Best 1989-2024)

1962 Château Chasse-Spleen

Moulis en Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend more

5/18/2002 - Xavier Auerbach wrote: 87 points

Mature, bright red, with a positive orange/brown meniscus; classic nose, cedar, spices and blackcurrants, warm and with good depth; on the palate drying and tannic, not so much dried out but austere rather than charming, with rusty, gravelly flavours and some dried cherries. Needs food.

Medium deep colour, dark red core; oak and spice, classic and compact, hint of cheese rind, dark fruit, cedar and coffee; disctinctly powerful structure, tannic grip, medium weight, relatively dry and tight but still juicy, has some fruit, acidity is starting to separate; good length. A good, classic 1962.

From an English bottling, this was a lovely surprise: deep blood-red and vibrant in colour; nose of citrus rind, red fruit and leather; fine on the palate, with firm tannins, becoming astringent at last; a splendid '62.

Beautiful and classical Bordeaux bouquet; good cassis and luxurious oak with cedar, cigar box and graphite. On the palate juicy cassis juice and good acidity and tannin. Compared to the more open style Poujeaux I am not sure which wine I like best. Have to taste again over the next 5 - 8 years to make up my mind about that. But this is definitely a beautiful wine and Chasse Spleen as you expect it to be. Same score as for Poujeaux; 91.

2009 Bordeaux at UGC San Francisco (Bentley Reserve Building, San Francisco): Floral nose of rose petals and ripe red fruits. Bright wine with black currants, minerals, and some earthy mushroom type flavors with med toasted oak. Good structure and balance with a med length finish. 91 today with a good future ahead. I really liked this for the price - a strong buy

Spice, herbs, earth and tart cherry scents lead to a tight, tannic wine, with drying sensations in the red fruit, dominated finish. Perhaps time will soften the tannins.

UGC 2009 Bordeaux Tasting - NYC - 1.25.12 (New York City): Really shows lovely. Wine has great lift, floral aromatic with unmistakable claret qualities. Projects very well in terms of its ability to progress beyond infancy. Fruit is the name of the game with this wine. It is a delicate dancer that has nothing to do with oak. It’s one of the most transparent wines at the tasting. Should be drinking immediately well and into the near future. 91-94+

Red Bordeaux 2009 (Hi-Times Wine Cellar, Costa Mesa, CA): $34.95. Very tight nose, perhaps just a little whiff of oak. Tight on the palate as well but showing some delicate fruit, soft tannins, and some oakiness. Nicely balanced with an overall feminine feel to it. Very good wine that could use a few years or more in the cellar.
