1/9/2017 - cubswinws Likes this wine: 89 pointsInteresting wine. Still fairly tannic and rustic in style. Much improved on Day 2. I would wait another 2-3 years on this one. |

1/26/2024 - subwaysam Likes this wine: 95 pointsA special wine. Decanted 1 hour before drinking. It was relaxed but still maintained a Mourvedre character. Balanced. I think it will maintain this equilibrium for a few years, at least. |

3/4/2006 - jim dixon wrote: 90 pointsInitially a rather uncharitable wine. Lots of tannin with a bit of barnyard on the nose. Not ready to drink now, and currently less enjoyable than the regular 98 Tempier. This wine might surpass the Tempier with time, however, as it clearly has a lot of stuffing. After several hours it softened a bit and the fruit started to come out. We saved half, though, as it still seemed like it had a ways to go before really giving up the goods. |

8/6/2009 - french16 wrote: 89 pointsA lot of iron (almost too much) on the nose along with dark cherry, spices (a touch if cinnamon), hint of menthol, chocolate and meaty notes. Full body, slightly grainy tannins with good acidity, palate matching the nose along with some plum and smoke with a good finish. |

12/27/2010 - Chris Newport wrote: NRA nice bandol. Aerated for only a few hours in the bottle with a glass poured out, so different results may be had if its aerated in a decanter. Very powerful and intense on the palate, but the lack of aromatics and tightness lead me to the conclusion that this needs more time. Drinking well now, but give it a few more years and it should be in prime time. |

2/28/2024 - thesternowl wrote: 93 pointsPopped and poured; enjoyed over three days. Delicious on Day 1; sensational on Day 3. In the glass, the 2021 “Vesprée” pours a stunning blood orange color nearing a brilliant fuchsia at the core, which is transparent. Medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with fascinating notes of strawberry, kiwi, those glazed candied citrus slices you see in the European sweet shops, rose water, and wet stone. On the palate, the wine is dry with low tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose with the addition of red plums. Juicy. There’s a long mineral finish and a killer texture. Wow…this is easily the most exciting rosé that I’ve had since the Tondonia Rosado. But while the Tondonia makes you think, the Vesprée melts your heart with its sheer beauty. I think you could age this? I have another bottle…I might just do it for science. Drink now (with a decant if possible). I was great on the pop and pour but it was even better with air. Lovely. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (3) |

4/13/2024 - Radboy wrote: 95 pointsThis is simply a stellar Rose’ and the best I have enjoyed. The color is a stunning salmon pink that is almost orange. There is a rounded mouthfeel that is slightly tannic, probably from the lack of de-stemming. There is definitely bright strawberry fruit with a surprising minerality throughout leading to a hint of lime on the finish. The delectable sweetness makes this impossible to resist. Hopefully 2022 can rise to this level of goodness! I am in for as much as I can afford! |

12/7/2009 - Gargantua wrote: NRNose of garrigue, leather. Still a pronounced underlying acid. Nose follows w milky tones, vinyl a bit. Leathery ol' bandol horsey w some kick and some resinous herbs. Age has translated into a lightness on the palate amongst these bold tones--a nice counterpoint. Leathery violet. Like walking into a leather store, belts hanging everywhere. Still, I couldn't help but wonder if this bottle was either opened too soon or too late; difficult for me to tell. |

8/15/2006 - RJD wrote: 91 pointsWhat a well made wine. Still tight, although it loosened its grip over the night and by day two it was much more enjoyable. Great dark fruit, long finish, very full and silky mouthfeel. Had I sampled blind I would have guessed a very young, well made left bank wine. Certainly would not have guessed mourvedre from the south of France. This was one of my first Bandol wines. At a sub $20 price point, I'm convinced! |

12/12/2009 - cpoulos wrote: 95 pointsBrilliant Bandol, just cracking right now. Very complex, it features notes of black plum, cranberry, honey, tobacco, old books, roses, game, and iron. High in both tannin and acidity, this wine shows no sign of tiring. Long and succulent. This would not be out of place in a lineup of top 1995 Bordeaux. Still delicious on day 2, which is telling. |

2/20/2016 - kevinacohn wrote: NRFrom 1.5L. Perfect right now, although it will maintain for at least 5 and probably 10 more years. Everything that you could ask for from a bottle of Bandol: delicious red and black fruits, with aromas of honey, varnish, and bark. Compared with the 1988, 1989, and 1990 vintages, all of which I've tasted recently, this had more acidity, resulting in more lift, freshness, and food-friendliness. The south of France in a glass. I look forward to following my remaining bottles. Rated 3 on a scale of -1 to 3. |

Lots of leather, shoe polish, and other varnish-y aromas; if you're looking for fruit, look elsewhere. This spanned two courses; the first, a pasta dish with a tomato sauce, wasn't a good fit—the tannins were overwhelming. The second, different cuts of steak, faired far better. If I'm being picky—which is an unreasonable thing to be when talking about a 23-year-old bottle of wine—I'd have liked a little more acidity. |

2/6/2022 - VDLT Wine Likes this wine: NROpened several hours in advance and double decanted off the sediment. Quite tertiary flavor profile yet the tannins remain pronounced. Despite a lack of fruit, it has lots more to offer besides structure. It has a firm acidic spine. Sophisticated and forceful, it likely was given too much air as it collapsed after an hour or so. Really impressive mature Bandol. |

9/15/2022 - evjoh Likes this wine: NRBright rose gold color. The nose reveals some minerality, orange peel, and strawberry juice. Everything comes together on the palate, joining the creamy texture with gentle acid. It's dry and leaves an aftertaste of garden herbs. The only issue I could see is that it's 14.5% ABV, but that's only when it creeps back around cellar temp—serve it cold. |
