Rinaldi is probably the most famous Barolo producer on the planet, if not in the top 3. Their wines are more or less impossible to obtain in Quebec. I was lucky to score a case of their Barbera and I must admit I am a little dissapointed. They are of the traditional style which means big old oak botti. My go to Barbera is probably Vietti, and from my knowledge of the grape it needs plenty of sun and in my eyes oak. Tannins tends to be on the lower side and acidity rather higher, hence there are mixed thoughts on the real ageing potential. On to the wine...

On the nose there are notes of strawberries, freshly picked roses, raspberries, cranberries, vanilla, sage and other wild herbs. The palate is very fresh and bright, with sharp yet slightly ripe fruit and crushed florals. This has an energetic and lively mid-palate. I just feel at this stage the acidity is just so unbalanced it is difficult to enjoy. Even though they say don't age Barbera, I think this will be drinking better in around 3-4 years. 90+

This was too young no doubt about it, it had a little rough finish and the nose also blew off with too much time in the glass. it’ll be better and perhaps more stable in a couple of years, and then again I didn’t drink it with food, so maybe that’s my mistake.

But the lifted red fruit and light spice is so clean and fresh that you can’t help but love it. Is has ample sweetness and body and is definitely interesting. It becomes a little oakier with air and shows some more cooked fruit. I found it to be well balanced and not at all too acidic although maybe a bit harsh at this stage.

Superb owl Sunday (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. Next to the 2017 Bartolo, this was less giving with the fruit and came across as slightly more austere and structural, though there was plenty of acidity to keep this fresh. I think it may well be a matter of this being too young. I certainly wouldn't object to revisiting this in a few years.

- no decanting, drunk in la Morra Piedmont.
- Nose: Great intensity and a nose full of blue fruit, raspberries and strawberries, little wood present.
- Palate: Incredibly cool freshness, high acidity that comes across as aromatic (i.e. citrusy and carrying the aromas). Wonderfully drinkable and also long lasting on the finish. Also a touch of mineral, bubbles and stony flavours.

Pop and pour, Drunk over 4 hours.

Berry fruit, spice, tar and violets on the nose. Mid weighted for Barbera with a degree of elegance rare for this variety. Lovely plate presence and balance with an excellent mix of fruit, florals, soil and some savory cured meat notes on the back end. The acidity balances out the flesh and size of the wine very well. A harmonious Barbera made for the table. Mouthwatering. Outstanding. 91

Tasted during visit. Ripe and juicy notes of sweet black cherries, sweet spices, some minerality too. It's pretty medium-full bodied with high acidity and medium-lower tannin. Good length on the sappy finish. A playful, juicy and sappy Barbera that is so much fun to drink.

Juoicy cherries, high acid and quite low tannins. No noticable oak to my mind. Perfect companion with bolognese and similar dishes like lasagne.

Clear, medium intensity, ruby color.

Youthful nose with medium(+) intensity. Lots of primary black fruit, dark cherry, plum and black berry along with rose petals, paint bucket, wet soil and slight funk.

Bright and juicy on the palate with high acidity, medium body and medium(+) tannins. Bone dry but really generous fruit. Medium(+) intensity and a long, fresh and juicy finish.

Today this is all about bright acidity and lavish fruit. Juicy and easy-drinking. I can definitely see this growing several numbers with aging since it got some serious stuffing. Beppe Rinaldi's Barbera is really one of the best out there.

Good wine. Flirts with alcohol heat, but doesn't give in. Bright and luscious fruit, very delicious and energetic. My issue is that the wine to me smells and tastes like a California Pinot, but without the complexity that the best of them have to offer. There is no terroir stamp that I can pick up on. And, it's a $60 wine, which for what I'm getting here feels like a lot.

Plenty of rich young fruit here. Cherries, red currants, a little dusty. High acid, low tannin. You could definitely let this rest a year or two more, or just enjoy it now in its youth.

Varietal cherry upfront, serving distinct minerality on the midpalate. Refreshing and with medium tannin, altogether a perfect wine for meaty pasta. Will benefit with one or two more years in the cellar, to add complexity.

This wine was decanted for 30 min, nice brick red color, nose a bit muted, some berries, some underwood, taste firm delicious, no tannic feeling just softness, ready to roll, but maybe another 1-2 years to keep.

This wine was a solid 91pts when it was first opened, but thankfully, I had left some in the decanter overnight. After 24 hours in the decanter, the wine completely evolved.

Tons of black cherry. Incredibly aromatic. Beautiful wine.

Great wine. In the upper echelon of Barbera. That said this one needs time to resolve. Have a few more bottles that I won’t touch for 3 years at least. Recently had a 99 Barbera by Giacomo Conterno and it was on another level in comparison.

A beautiful fruit and floral driven nose. Lovely perfume. There's ripe berry and cherry fruit with good snap on the palate. This walks the line between radiant ripe fruit and focused acidity beautifully. Round, yet not fat, pretty mid weighted for barbers, with beautiful clarity and depth. There is plenty going on here, but it is so delicious and easy to drink one is tempted to overlook it and just be happy drinking it. There is an effortlessness to this wine that makes you want to drink much more than one glass. Beautiful. A paradoxically forward yet understatedly graceful Barbera. I really like '15 for Barbera. Delicious with a fennel sausage pizza.

Rinaldi's 2015 Barbera d'Alba is stunning, boasting the intensity of the vintage with none of its excess, in fact this is an elegant wine, with lifted aromatics of mixed florals, black cherry, and mushroom-y earth. Racey acidity. Very good!

Très beau barbera, très fruité, sans aucune lourdeur, un très bel équilibre en bouche. Très bel accord avec la Fondue bourguignonne, à très bien résisté au gras du plat.

Not much change since my last bottle a few months ago. Again a lovely berry and cherry fruit and floral driven nose. This is interestingly a wine of both contrasts and harmony. On the palate there is a simultaneous ripeness and freshness to the fruit with the acidity giving it snap and lift to contrast the breadth of the fruit. Round, yet not heavy or fat, with great clarity and depth. I love the success in creating a wine that is both passively delicious, yet serious enough to keep your attention. Supple yet, precise, fleshy yet fresh. A graceful, harmonious Barbera that highlights the strength f of the vintage for barbera. Delicious and sadly my last bottle. At peak with time in hand, but I cannot think of a reason to have to wait. 92
