2019 Giuseppe Rinaldi Barbera d'Albamore |
10/22/2021 - Alexander Smith wrote: 90 pointsRinaldi is probably the most famous Barolo producer on the planet, if not in the top 3. Their wines are more or less impossible to obtain in Quebec. I was lucky to score a case of their Barbera and I must admit I am a little dissapointed. They are of the traditional style which means big old oak botti. My go to Barbera is probably Vietti, and from my knowledge of the grape it needs plenty of sun and in my eyes oak. Tannins tends to be on the lower side and acidity rather higher, hence there are mixed thoughts on the real ageing potential. On to the wine... |

1/6/2022 - DantheMan123 Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis was too young no doubt about it, it had a little rough finish and the nose also blew off with too much time in the glass. it’ll be better and perhaps more stable in a couple of years, and then again I didn’t drink it with food, so maybe that’s my mistake. |

Next to the 2017 Bartolo, this was less giving with the fruit and came across as slightly more austere and structural, though there was plenty of acidity to keep this fresh. I think it may well be a matter of this being too young. I certainly wouldn't object to revisiting this in a few years. |

9/9/2016 - NostraBacchus Likes this wine: 92 pointsTasted during visit. Ripe and juicy notes of sweet black cherries, sweet spices, some minerality too. It's pretty medium-full bodied with high acidity and medium-lower tannin. Good length on the sappy finish. A playful, juicy and sappy Barbera that is so much fun to drink. |

2/14/2018 - brooklynguy wrote: NRGood wine. Flirts with alcohol heat, but doesn't give in. Bright and luscious fruit, very delicious and energetic. My issue is that the wine to me smells and tastes like a California Pinot, but without the complexity that the best of them have to offer. There is no terroir stamp that I can pick up on. And, it's a $60 wine, which for what I'm getting here feels like a lot. |

10/7/2018 - Vinum Cultura Likes this wine: 92 pointsVarietal cherry upfront, serving distinct minerality on the midpalate. Refreshing and with medium tannin, altogether a perfect wine for meaty pasta. Will benefit with one or two more years in the cellar, to add complexity. |

2/23/2019 - VINNICK Likes this wine: 89 pointsGreat wine. In the upper echelon of Barbera. That said this one needs time to resolve. Have a few more bottles that I won’t touch for 3 years at least. Recently had a 99 Barbera by Giacomo Conterno and it was on another level in comparison. |

10/15/2019 - cct wrote: 92 pointsA beautiful fruit and floral driven nose. Lovely perfume. There's ripe berry and cherry fruit with good snap on the palate. This walks the line between radiant ripe fruit and focused acidity beautifully. Round, yet not fat, pretty mid weighted for barbers, with beautiful clarity and depth. There is plenty going on here, but it is so delicious and easy to drink one is tempted to overlook it and just be happy drinking it. There is an effortlessness to this wine that makes you want to drink much more than one glass. Beautiful. A paradoxically forward yet understatedly graceful Barbera. I really like '15 for Barbera. Delicious with a fennel sausage pizza. |

1/18/2020 - cct wrote: 92 pointsNot much change since my last bottle a few months ago. Again a lovely berry and cherry fruit and floral driven nose. This is interestingly a wine of both contrasts and harmony. On the palate there is a simultaneous ripeness and freshness to the fruit with the acidity giving it snap and lift to contrast the breadth of the fruit. Round, yet not heavy or fat, with great clarity and depth. I love the success in creating a wine that is both passively delicious, yet serious enough to keep your attention. Supple yet, precise, fleshy yet fresh. A graceful, harmonious Barbera that highlights the strength f of the vintage for barbera. Delicious and sadly my last bottle. At peak with time in hand, but I cannot think of a reason to have to wait. 92 |
