1998 Highfield Estate Elstree Cuvée Brut

I've never had anything like this before, a vintage almost 10 year old sparkler, and it's my guess that there's a reason this one was heavly discounted at the local market. There is so much wood on the pallet that's almost all you can taste. There is some nice acidity, but not enough fruit to make it worth even the low price I paid for this interesting but disappointing wine.

Lovely richness of fruit and complexity, has developed nutty, honeyed bottle age characters.

Rich style with obvious fruit power. A touch simple in structure but some mandarised fruit detracted. Poor value at $47.

Had this on Saturday with friends its made of 50% Pinot Noir & 50% Chardonnay. The grapes were harvested in 1999 and allowed to mature until release in 2002.

The nose was full of friut apricot came to the front, the taste was very long and full in flavor a very well rounded fizz better than a lot of champagne I have tasted around the £20/25.00 mark.

I have just ordered another dozen as all four of use really enjoyed it. And isnt that the important bit ??

Unfortunately this has gone sour and didn’t age for 10 years. It was a lovely drop when I purchased it but I kept it too long. Sour and unpalatable

Sweet strawberries on the nose before swirling. Cherries after swirl. Very gentle hints of vanilla and oak coming through. Nice balance and good mouthfeel. Slight hotness and fair finish. Quite enjoyable.

Simple and fruity, medium-light weight, good balance. Really no earthy flavors that I love in Burgundy, but an enjoyable drink at a good price.

2011 Sydney International Wine Show - Top 100 tasting (Menzies Hotel, Sydney): {screwcap, 14.5%} Intense and jammy red-fruited nose. Despite the alcohol, the palate has some lightness to it, but the flavours are all very one-dimensional at the moment. Does finish dry and savoury, but sits too much on the front palate to be more than a short-term wine.

It's definitely on the bigger, more syrupy side of pinot, but unlike some of its 14%+ california counterparts, it actually still tastes like pinot, which is cool. Much bigger in the mouth than on the nose. Syrupy cherry cola and raspberry nice acidity, nice spice, killer QPR for the $13 that bestwinesonline was selling it for

Strawberries, cherries and raspberries. Paired best with the seared tuna (from Thailand), where it added earth and herbs to the mix. Gentle tannins throughout/ Also good with the tuna sashimi and not bad with the Atlantic salmon (sashimi and grilled salmon). At the end, I had it with a bite of the DiGiornio's pizza (with pork sausage and fennel, pepperoni and Genoa salami), which added spice to the mix. About 88 points on its own and 91 points with the better pairings (the seared tuna and the pizza with the Italian pork sausage and fennel).

Still drinking well but I would drink these in the next year or so.

We paid $13.50 / bottle on closeout; good QPR at that price.

Sweet berry fruit and strong animal-like smell in first hour. Perhaps it is still young, the tannin is not so silky as I expected, but the wine is well balanced.
After a hour opening, more chocolate like smell coming out, and tannin remained the same with first hour.
In 3-4 hour tasting, the smell still strong and complicated, and tannin is still strong.

Dark ruby color with an expressive, fruity nose of ripe, candied black cherry. The palate was heavy for a pinot, and sweeter than I prefer, but still accessible, fruit-forward and ripe, without any obvious flaws, which made a glass or two pretty easy drinking. Lacks the elegance I typically look for in better Pinot, but not a bad value for what it is supposed to be.

100 cc pour from A3. Nose of sweet candied fruit balanced by a good dose of earth, yeast, and hints of chocolate. Fuller bodied than most Pinots with a sweetish, pleasant finish. Unexpected flavor profile and very easy drinking. Would certainly drink again. 90 / 91 points.

Candied fruit on the nose. Emphasizes the ripe fruit taste. Little oak. Well done for what it is -- fruity New World pinot. Didn't taste blind but would have guessed California and not New Zealand had I done so. Drink while young and fresh.

Powerfull, yet soft and massive overtones of strawberry. Hand picked grapes, hand sorted organic excellence. Tasted next to a sancerre Red, and out foxed it. Superb .
