Popped and let sit in some ice for an hour before the first pour. So smooth and light...cream soda and herbal notes...and the finish was fantastic. Aged very well.

nice, understated nose with Rhubarb, raspberry, strawberry, graphite, orange zest and spice but with a tiny note of green wood. Good follow through on the palate, a bit of disjointed toasty, baby bottom'd oak/fruit competition but with a good, even, long finish. Could use a bit more acid punch on the entry/midpalate. All in all flavors and nose rocked but needs to spend a little time in Europe with a Eurorail pass for structure to develop and find itself.

Earthy profile. Much better than previous bottle. Original Bandaid like background flavor evolving towards forest floor and cola. Might yet improve still with time.

Purple and magenta in color. Bouquet of vivid black cherry, black currant and plum. Palate includes intense black fruit flavors balanced by vivid acidity. Also some bramble, briar and underlying minerality as well. Satin like texture and enduring finish.

Purple and magenta colors with an enticing aroma of vivid balck cherry, black currant and plum with rose petals and violets in the background. Solid and tense on the palate with dark fruit, earth and nice acidity. Some bramble and briar with hints of minerality. Satin feel on the palate.

This is a big and delicious Pinot from Brian Loring. Earth, toast, wild berries and chocolate.Creamy mouthfeel with wild blackberries and nuances of cocoa and a bit of vanillla. Long smooth length with some creamy vanilla lingering behind.

Interesting to see how this has evolved from my last set of tasting notes on this wine. This presented more muted black fruit with some spice and earth. It presented a mineral and dry mouthfeel compared to the younger version. Medium weight and still good level of acidity. Some blackberry, leather and must leading to a persistent finish. I would rate this around 90 points at this point versus my higher earlier rating of this wine.

Medium to dark garnet. Extremely aromatic, almost floral or perfume on the nose. Very elegant and stylish. Subdued dried currant, earth and mushroom. Very sweet and savory and complex. Darke berry fruit on the finish.

Fresh and sappy still with wild berry aromas and flavors. Cherry, plum and lavendar scents as well with complex and rich aromas and flavors. Fleshy and supple with an extended finish. Juicy without being simplistic. Some earthiness and savory notes in addition to the juicy fruit. Nice contrasts and balance overall.

Last bottle must have been a bit off, but it was a PNP. This bottle however was decanted about 1+ hours before drinking. That made all the difference in the world. Nice, fruit-forward, new world style. Fresh and tart red fruit. This still has quite a bit of life left in it. Drink or hold for another 2+ years.

A savory fruity smokey version of an overthetop C-noir but with just (just) enough acids left to keep it lively and somewhat interesting. Medium bodied, interesting finish.

At 7 years old this wine is not going to get any better so suggest you drink up now.

13.7% abv. Recent auction purchase.
A little reductive on the pop 'n pour, and the aromas and flavors were a little unpleasant, so left it stoppered overnight. This cleared things up quite a bit.
A little cloudy, which doesn't bother me at all and actually improves the mouthfeel for me in many cases, as I like the textural mouthfeel that this often gives and was so in this case as well.
This looked and tasted "mature" - not really in a good way. Don't know what this tasted like in its youth, but I suspect it was better, as this was a touch sour and bitter. I'd imagine that this flavor profile character was not that noticeable with more youthful fruit present. Not terrible, but I chalk this up as a Cali Pinot that was just not meant to age. If scoring, 84 - 85.

Also a recent auction purchase. I enjoyed this. Fuller bodied PN that is in its twilight but there is still some fruit here (dark cherry and plum) to go with the solid structure (some tannins, cola, and brown sugar). I'm guessing this will soon go from aged to old so drink up.

Drank this wine as we finished off the IPNC/Oregon scrapbook product. It was certainly a nice way to finish this project, even though this Pinot hails from the Sonoma Valley. The Durell Vineyard is well known and regarded and probably accounts for the steeper price of this product. This was a smooth elegant and well-balanced bottle of wine. It was similar to the bottle of Taz Pinot Noir ingested this same evening. (see Taz notes) If I am a bit less than enthusiastic in my assessment it is only due to the price difference between these bottles which were tasted next to each other on the same evening. The Sand Hill may have had a better and longer lasting finish but they were certainly similar in silky mouthfeel, medium weight and excellent balance. I would like to try this wine again to be able to more accurately judge it on its own merits.
