2012 Do Ferreiro Albariño Rías Baixasmore |
8/13/2014 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRI hadn't drunk the Ferreiro Albariño since a memorable honeymoon dinner at Elkano so this bottle made me nostalgic. Stony, refreshing, good acid. Fruitier and fuller than a Muscadet but not dissimilar. Great with fish. Maybe a little more powerful than I'd like for regular drinking. |

1/4/2017 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRMy mood brightens whenever I drink this wine. A briny smell like the seaside, the taste like biting into a delicious lemon. |

2013 Alice et Olivier De Moor Bourgogne-Aligotémore |
3/29/2015 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRAlmost astringent when opened, this then relaxed and developed a ravishing waxy-pearly texture. Addictive tanginess. Apple blossom scent. (Nomacorc sugar cane closure.) |

2011 Bartolo Mascarello Barbera d'Albamore |
10/11/2016 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRYouthful and somewhat broad but nonetheless delicious in its current state. The wine became less rich and less cocoa-y with time in the decanter. |

2009 Cappellano Barbera d'Alba Gabuttimore |
7/20/2016 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRA previous bottle of this wine, drunk over a year ago, felt unbalanced but this one was very good. It had that strong, tarry backbone that seems to define Cappellano's Barbera from Gabutti, although I prefer drinking the 2010 to the 2009 at the moment. |

2009 Cappellano Barbera d'Alba Gabuttimore |
6/19/2017 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRIn a great place now with a short decant and could improve further. The 2009, unlike some other vintages of this wine, seems to have needed a few years after release to fully harmonize. |

2013 Elio Sandri Barbera d'Alba Superioremore |
4/29/2016 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRDecanted for an hour. The wine initially smelled and tasted like a black plum (the kind that's red inside), with that fruit's watery juiciness, before picking up black licorice smells and soil tones. The gentle tannins contributed to a background sense of cocoa, suggesting structure behind the wine's casual elegance. Good, perfectly balanced acid, which I don't always find to be the case with Barbera wines. Eventually, the wine had a delightful watermelon finish. |

7/18/2019 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRA beautiful, nervy, and also very savory vintage for this wine. |

2013 Bartolo Mascarello Barbera d'Albamore |
4/3/2017 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRA nervy and "digeste" Barbera. Delicious, still youthful, benefiting from time in the decanter. |

2004 Cappellano AB NormalVino da Tavola Barbera more |
3/7/2019 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRA wine that was somewhat stern upon release but this bottle suggests it's now ready. Barbera resembling Barolo. |

2007 Olga Raffault Chinon Les PicassesCabernet Franc more |
3/14/2015 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRYouthful still. At first, it smelled pungent and of tobacco. An hour after being decanted, it was really enjoyable and svelte, a sweeter, cherry-like side to the wine coming out, together with typical graphite and green pepper notes. |

2006 Domaine Bernard Baudry Chinon La Croix BoisséeCabernet Franc more |
4/2/2019 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRIn perfect shape after a short decant. Powerful while remaining fresh. My previous bottle, drunk in 2017, was too young. |

1/21/2015 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRFrom half bottle. Tobacco and graphite when first opened, when the tannins are a little grainy. A couple of hours later some menthol creeps in and the texture becomes both smoother and richer. Pleasurably cocoa-y by the end. The wine was quite aromatic at the beginning but then closed up on itself after 3 hours or so. |

2007 Domaine Bernard Baudry Chinon La Croix BoisséeCabernet Franc more |
2/17/2017 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRA little thin initially but the wine gained vigor and freshness in the decanter, the texture becoming almost velvety. A pleasure to drink but lacking the personality and chalky signature of other vintages of the Croix Boissée, at this point in time at least. |

2010 Domaine Bernard Baudry Chinon Le DomaineCabernet Franc more |
8/24/2014 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRThis needed air and food but after an hour or so open was delicious. Firm tannins. |

2011 Domaine Bernard Baudry Chinon Le Clos GuillotCabernet Franc more |
2/9/2015 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRThis was dilute and brackish when first opened but after a couple of hours in the decanter it turned sleek and lively. It tasted then of prune-plums, with some of that wateriness a plum has, and eventually more cocoa-y towards the end of the bottle when the texture was a silky delight. The nose was not very giving at any point: some faint tobacco and dirt. |

1997 Domaine Guion Bourgueil Cuvée PrestigeCabernet Franc more |
1/12/2016 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRReally good after a couple of hours in the decanter. Reticent beforehand. Typical tobacco and graphite notes, then, strikingly and deliciously, all the flavor components of a maraschino cherry. As the wine filled out, I was even reminded of that fruit's texture. Some sweet fennel seed also. |

9/26/2017 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRLarge-scaled initially but fresh and balanced after being decanted for an hour. Brambly fruit. Lovely, rounded texture. |

1989 Le Logis de la Bouchardiere Chinon Les Cornuelles Vieilles VignesCabernet Franc more |
2/11/2016 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRI wouldn't have guessed this wine's age, it was so youthful, even if the tannins were beautifully resolved. The wine needed a little time to open up in the decanter and then became gamey and herbal. A thyme smell, gravy, too, unsurprisingly very good drunk with lamb. Some musk and cherry later on. A soft finish. |

9/22/2014 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRGlou-glou wine. Petally and a little spicy-peppery to start before broadening out. Lithe texture. Versatile with food. |

2010 Patrick Corbineau Touraine CumelleCabernet Franc more |
4/21/2015 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRA wine that had a lot to say. Raspberry taste, soft and lightweight at first, it then became more lush in texture after being open for a few hours. Very "alive" and a little funky in a good way, tasting of squid-ink and jalapeño (rather than green pepper). |

5/30/2016 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRThis bottle was fantastic on day two but seemed disjointed on day one. |

1997 Catherine et Pierre Breton Bourgueil Les PerrièresCabernet Franc more |
12/25/2014 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRSuch freshness to the two bottles of this wine we drunk at Christmas. Each took a couple of hours after being decanted to show well. Forest floor, cinnamon, elegantly textured, the tannins resolved, a faint trace of vanilla. |

2002 Olga Raffault Chinon Les PicassesCabernet Franc more |
3/14/2014 - Ben H. Likes this wine: NRThis 2002 drank both relatively mature and very lively, a great combination. After an hour in the decanter, the initially stinky scent seemed almost to have been absorbed back into the wine, lingering pleasantly in the background. At that point, the wine tasted sweetly brambly and was very aromatic, a bouquet of flowers. Satiny texture. The wine developed to taste more savory with a woodsy smell. By the end, there was a liqueur-like quality to it that I loved. |
