I agree with other tasters noting a mineral, iron-like quality. Some floral notes on the nose. Well structured. A very good wine but needs years in the cellar, imho. |

I chose a 2004 Albariño from Rías Baixais by Valminor. This was a nice wine to start with and was the perfect interlude between the champagne and white Burgundy. Clearly made for immediate consumption and not very complex, it proved to be a great match with the oyster course. There is a prominent note of salinity making this wine somewhat reminiscent of Muscadet, yet with more weight. The nose displays a flinty citrus characteristic. On the palate, the wine shows more of an herbal quality with a strong minerality presence. A very refreshing wine with food. |

Classic CF notes of sandalwood, earth, good green pepper/herbs with just enough funk to make it more interesting. With more air the wine picks up weight and opens further. My last bottle of the Domaine. Haven't touched my Grezeau or Croix Boissee yet. |

1/11/2024 - gregg g wrote: NRMy favorite Baudry wine due to it's relative price to satisfaction ratio, availability and the fact that I love somewhat rustic, mature wines. Dull, almost hazy crimson hue, with little to no bricking. Beautiful aromatics from the get go. A melange of red berry fruits, pencil lead and baking spices. Lacy, complete, engaging, mature, dare I say Burgundian in texture, with barely a hint of green bell pepper. Just a wonderful and delicious Grezeaux that has shed it's baby fat and has begun what seems to be a nice drinking plateau. Bought a 6-pack on release, have 3 more to enjoy. Do not hesitate to open a bottle. |

I won't even attempt to put into words, but most of us just sat there mesmerized by it. Silky textured fruit resembling aged Bordeaux with leather, tobacco, tea and taro leaf. None of the green bell pepper notes others have described. Simply an astounding wine. |

Rich, sweet fruit flavors that coat the palate. Thankfully the oak was in check and not protruding. The wine seemed a little one demensional to me. It should continue to develope with further cellar time. |

Some unresolved tannins remain but the fruit fills the midpalate. A good wine on its own, yet not as good as the company in the same flight tonight. |

The fruit has developed into a nice melange of cassis, currant and spice. There is an earthy element that seems to gain intensity as the wine opens. A very nice Cal. With air, more complexity emerges in savory, herbal notes. Textbook stuff. A great ringer for well aged, old school CA cab. One of those wines you think you catch at its zenith. I think this retailed for $30. |

7/16/2005 - gregg g wrote: NR5 years of Mondavi Napa CS '90-'94 and other assorted bottles (Encino, CA.): The first in a series of consecutive vintages, 1990-1994, this wine ended up being one of my favorites of the night. It was too difficult to assess color, which in hindsight is a shame. Notes of prunes, cassis and cedar dominate the nose with just a touch of earthy flavors. The fruit is remarkably vibrant. Silky and seamless. Tannins are melded into the framework. This is really about all I could expect from this 15 yr old. The finish lasted and the wine remained stable the entire time it was in my glass. |

7/16/2005 - gregg g wrote: NR5 years of Mondavi Napa CS '90-'94 and other assorted bottles (Encino, CA.): The last of the flight and my judgment was definately impaired by this time. What I can say is that Jeff Z summed it up best by noting the wine seemed to be a summary of many of the best components of the previous 4 wines. The '94 definitely held together better than the others. It showed wonderful balance between the earthy flavors of the '91 & '92 and the more fruit dominant profile of the '90 & '93. Another seamless treat. Overall, my WOTN. |
