Kobayashi Winter Tasting: Wonderful acidity. I really love good Viognier from Washington State, as the best examples express the showy aromatics of the variety but have cut, acid and focus. This is among the best examples.

All American Chardonnay Tasting (New Jersey, USA): Wow, what a wonderful wine! 5 out of the 10 attendees, including me (all but one of the real wine "aficionados" in the group) called this as the wine of the night! So perfectly balanced. Light lemon yellow with a tinge of green. Beautiful nose of fresh cut white flowers, white peach, pear, and lemony citrus. Palate reflects the nose with an herbal undertone. Superb balance and absolute seamlessness across every aspect of the wine. Delicious, complex and long on the finish. Still very youthful and with tremendous upside, but gorgeous tonight!

Blind tasting European whites (Taylor's wines, Alexandria): Served Blind
Herbaceous, stalky almost, quite green and ashy over waxy citrus. Medium plus of acidity, plenty of grip, quite citrus and green apple sharpness on the palate as well. Less green in the mouth and it starts to show more generous with time and agitation
French and Sem Sav Blanc blend with the latter the dominant component

This is 100% Malbec. Wild nose, deep, berry, coffee, herbal. Inky, dark palate. Chewy. A fun wine! Fruit profile is mostly dark red, coffee and herbs, rather tannic, nice acidity, rather ample structure overall.

Ok, it’s a rose so just saying. Absolutely beautiful in glass. Color is light, even for rose. Slight nose but served slightly chilled. Slight alcohol noticeable. Subtle fruit and slightly dry. Very good summertime wine. Although ordered 2018 I thought, turns out this was 2019.

Mmmm, Occhipinti Il Frappato is a wine that makes me HAPPY, and it has been impossible to find in Seattle the last two years during the pandemic.

A nose of funky crushed raspberry and mineral moves to a palate that is crunchy, fresh, slightly salty, mmm juicy, faintly tannic and dry, yet so quenching. Clean, slightly edgy, a wine of focus and interest. Love it!

Not sure why this is listed as Cab Franc? I believe it is a blend of Malbec, syrah, cabernet sauvignon, and merlot. This is very reminiscent of its sibling the “Ocrement Dit” that I had the other day (which is slightly more expensive and is labeled Cahors). Rich and ripe dark/purple fruit. A touch of funk. Full bodied and warm on the palate. As with its sibling, if you like the style it’s pretty enjoyable.

  • Comment posted by Eric:

1/28/2022 3:55:00 PM - The person who created it listed it as a Cab Franc. I corrected that to Red Blend. Just FYI that, rather than adding this in a tasting note you can easily report the issue to us. There is a link on the page for every wine to report a problem.

  • Comment posted by Eric:

5/26/2023 9:23:00 PM - Nothing really compares to Jamet in terms of the sheer, raw, bloody, just perfectly animal expression of Côte-Rôtie. I have only had a couple of Levet, and they are wonderful, more "coloring inside the lines." Just utterly proper.

This Jean-Michel Stephan was much more subtle, silky, more red fruit, more Burgundian, just a really unique expression.

Got to say, given all the positive reviews for this CDP I was terribly disappointed. Purchased at a French restaurant in Georgetown, which was equally disappointing. That being said, this bottle just would not open up, muted nose, the palate had some spicy notes that saved this from a lower score. It displayed little in the way of fruit, earth or meaty flavors I come to expect in a fine CDP, paired with disappointing beef burguignon and coq au vin, which I am sure did no favors for the wine.

Well this is an insanely delicious young wine, wow! Gunpowder and smoke mixing with spiced blackberries, tapenade and freshly cracked black pepper. This is quite a nose, really! The palate is less forgiving, young, tight, mineral, very wound up. Juicy, fresh acid, and saline. It is not a pleasure bomb yet, but it is stunning in its purity and reserve even if a bit austere at the moment. Very exciting and definitely reminds me of my first taste of Allemand.

3/23/2021 10:58:00 AM - I am making an effort to get a lot of Lyle wines and geek out my cellar a bit. He went through my purchases and assigned me some homework on which ones to open first. I am 2 for 2 so far, this and a remarkable Il Chiosso. Surely not all of the wines can be as good as these two, but wow what a great start! (And 6.5 cases arriving later this week!)

Zachary, I sent you a friend request. I am not sure of your cellar privacy, but I would love to see the wines we have in common... (That's a standard CT feature...)

Mmm, lifted, bright, floral nose. The palate is spicy and sleek, "cinnamon red hots" to steal a descriptor from Justin. This does have a very high acid profile and is lean, racy, not an easy wine, and really wants food. Now for me, everything I just wrote is a positive. This is tasty stuff! I will say that when I revisited this there was a bit of a odd lactic note, not off-putting but hard to place.
NOTE: this was a Daily Drinkers selection courtesy of Justin Wells.
