2022 Giuseppe Rinaldi Dolcetto d'Albamore |
11/29/2023 - MC2 Wines Likes this wine: NRPiemonte: Truffles instead of Turkey; 11/23/2023-12/2/2023 (Barolo, Barbaresco, Alto Piemonte and of course Alba): Every year it seems we see less and less dolcetto and yet for the most iconic producers they have held on and while financially make it would make more sense to go to Nebbiolo they note that it is both a question of where the vineyard is (not everywhere is for Nebbiolo) but then also the history of the place. Perhaps harkening back to one of my favorite stories from one of the producers who remembers selling cases of dolcetto with his father and giving away a bottle of the Barolo. So despite the recent disease infestation (which has required them to pull out and replant a number of vines and seems to be a losing battle) they are still quite focused on ensuring this wine continues to survive. I am happy for that. It’s a unique style but is quite interesting. Here the fruit is much more restrained in style. It’s less intense and almost more in the background and there’s a touch more tannin and dare I say balance to this wine. It’s not bright and immediate wine and yet it drinks quite nicely. Interesting. |

This is still dark black fruits but a touch of the dry tannin at the end. Less ripe. Good balance. Easy wine. I wouldn’t say I’d seek it out because I never seek this grape out but I wouldn’t be opposed to needing to drink this. |

9/23/2023 - Lype Likes this wine: NRVersatile and funky bouquet, which raises expectations of something special. The palate fulfills the promise, rich and full fruit, slightly funky, yet quite elegant, grandmother's blueberry pie, chocolate, smoke and more. Medium plus acidity lending fresh profile. Tasty, mouth drying finish. Ready to go now but has years left in it. Great that this prestigious producer has Dolcetto in its selection. No wonder that these are sold out immediately after release. |

4/9/2023 - CamWheeler wrote: 89 pointsSamples from Bill #3: Redcurrant, some chocolate and smoke on the nose. Palate is a nice mix of herbs notes along with the red fruit flavours. Has a bit more stuffing next to the 21 Burlotto Dolcetto but still feels nicely lithe and has the structure to age well over the next 4-5 years. |

4/18/2023 - Robmcl920 Likes this wine: 91 pointsThe ‘21 Freisa is an electric young wine. I found this wine to have a fruit expression similar to a Barbera but a tannic structure more like a Nebbiolo. I lack experience with this bottling, but it would not surprise me if this wine improves with a few years in bottle, as it was quite intense and Freisa has the capacity to age well if well made in the still style. 4 people found this helpful, do you? 12/30/2023 - Philip67 Does not like this wine: 89 pointsPurple and quite raw. There is a hint of the sweet earthy cherry of Barbera but this is way too young. Medium plus body. Acidity is high, tannin is low to medium, as per the variety. Medium finish, straightforward. Wait for another 5 years. |

Cerise, fraise, epices embaument, wouhahhh… 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

9/2/2023 - Lype Likes this wine: NRDay one this was ripe and primary as expected. Day two more resolved and not quite as big and wide as day one. Rich blueberry pie flavors and ink, refined herbs and rose petals. The Rinaldi type round sweetness is still there but more settled then day one. Acidity feels medium minus but is probably higher, just buried under the tasty and ample fruit. Gum drying but velvety tannins. Great mouth filling aftertaste. The price point for these is debatable but the 2021 is very good now and will offer enjoyment in the years to come. |

11/29/2023 - MC2 Wines Likes this wine: NRPiemonte: Truffles instead of Turkey; 11/23/2023-12/2/2023 (Barolo, Barbaresco, Alto Piemonte and of course Alba): Really loved that we are starting to get the preview of the 2021 vintage (which many producers are quite excited about although I’ll say there does seem to be some disagreement between this year and the 2019 for which is the ‘better’ one and a lot seems to depend on where vineyards are, etc.). Still - this is quite nice and predisposes me to think the 2021 Barolo will be quite nice. Darker red fruits, almost a sense of dry leaves, tannins very soft and the overall wine is quite pretty. 4 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |
