Tastes more SB right now, but with the underlayment of Semillon.

Pineapple and tropical notes on the nose.

Bright acidity on the palate. Lemon in your mouth.

I don’t get any oak or butter.

Darn that is super acidic and bright to it. But with still some of that ripe Margaret River fruit character to it. A little more fleshy (and enjoyable) than the Reserve. So much darn acidity!

On the nose: lemons, lemons, lemons... some flashes of apricot and earth / sediment after opening and warming up a bit.

Bright and acidic, tastes of lemon (unsurprisngly) and clementines. Full bodied but not overwhelming. Longer finish than I was expecting with woody and earthy notes pulling through at the end. I really liked this wine. Would drink it like juice.

Vibrant, lively, with a tense acidic energy. Tart citrus and white flowers, white peach, but you barely notice the fruit alongside the linear acidity. It is utterly delicious and the sort of wine you keep going back to taste again. Alchemy rather than alcohol. So interesting! Fabulous value too - this is a great buy!

Here in the UK, this is I believe Xanadu’s entry level Chardonnay, or is that the DJL? Anyway it was jolly nice. Avoids any sense of being sweet or oaky, it is quite taut, almost like an Australian Chablis without the minerality. Peach and white flower on the palate, a most enjoyable wine which we hope is a good sign for the Stevens Road and Reserve wines in the cellar.

Wine Society say:

Juicy, spiced, dark-fruited and complex, with a youthful charm but also great potential for cellaring, this Xanadu is a blend of cabernet sauvignon and petit verdot. The cabernet provides body, black fruit and tannic structure, while petit verdot brings plushness and spice. The combination offers a huge amount of style and personality at the price point. This is an outstanding option for short to mid-term keeping and for enjoying the wonderful character of Margaret River cabernet. The wine will remain in French oak barriques until bottling around June 2022. Drink 2023 to 2030. 14-14.5%

Full-bodied with much intensity. Blackberry flavours with hints of spice. Strong tannins give the wine guts. After the bottle had been opened for 24 hours, everything tasted different: softer, more elegant yet still fruit-driven. I am sure it has many years yet in its development.

Nice with lamb roast. Little bit of white pepper at mid and back palate.

Color is NOT opaque. Different from a CA Syrah.
Really, really good with the lamb.

I now understand what the Aussies mean with a Shiraz and lamb roast.

When I think about a core vanilla flavor in oak I consider what types of fruits it matches up with - apple, pear, lemon, and orange/clementine come to mind. Maybe peach/nectarine/apricot too. But what about grapefruit? And that's the question I kept asking myself while drinking this. Bright and green, with medium/high acid and notes of white grapefruit dominating. Maybe a hint of lime and unripe peach in there too. Better at cellar temperature, it's like a glass of grapefruit juice with a pinch of lime and a dollop of half and half. Hard to rate.
