11/20/2010 - KristianT Likes this wine: 95 points18 bottles of Sine Qua Non (Copenhagen, Denmark): A 100 point wines is always met with very high expectations. Next to the 2001 Midnight Oil the JFTLOI appeared almost identical - nearly pitch black. The nose was truly wonderful and very complex (blackberries was one of the more dominant notes I found). This is a great wine, although on the day the Midnight Oil was better because it showed better maturity. I have no doubt though that the JFTLOI will be an even better wine in the future. |

12/14/2010 - Jeff Leve wrote: 100 points2002 Sine Qua Non Just For The Love of It offers an insane nose of fresh picked blueberries, jammy blackberries, cappuccino, spice and smoke. Dense, thick and juicy, this palate drenching wine coats your mouth with layers of plush, ripe berries, chocolate and jam. The wine has not evolved over the past few years. I am not sure it will change much with more aging. I expect it to remain at this level for the next several years. This is such a hedonistic tasting experience, there is no reason not to pop a bottle and see for yourself. 100 Pts |

Big notes of toffee, coffee, black current and dark cherries. There is a richness to this wine that is a unique experience. The finish on this wine is looooooooonnnnnnnnnnggggggggggg. As I reflected about this wine, I have to say that every Sine Qua Non is something that you do not run into anywhere else. Manfred makes unique wines that you won't find anywhere else. A fitting wine to a great evening, watching my daughters grow up, and their cousins develop into great kids, all tied together by the great tradition my Mom brings to Christmas Eve. A perfect match. |

The nose is just amazing Beautiful blue fruit(!?) . Incredible length , absolutely amazingly good. Perfect structure. This is almost magical. Strangely enough it makes me think of a great Chambertin. This is 100 points without any doubt. |

5/19/2005 - Burgundy Al wrote: 94 pointsSensational perfumed nose showcasing allspice, peppercorn, licorice, vanilla and blackberry liqueur. Palate showed lots of ripe blackberry, with licorice and pepper again. Every component seems integrated already, although the alcohol is a bit weighty, even if not cloying. I will like this wine even more if that alcohol gets more hidden. Incredible finish. This was my first purchase on the mailing list after years of getting the SQN waiting list postcards. Great start! |

9/7/2011 - Jeff Leve wrote: 98 pointsDecanting is not needed to experience the powerful, blackberry, blueberry, smoke, coffee, cinnamon and clove drenched aromas. Thick, rich and voluptuous in texture, this Syrah based wine is intense. The long, viscous finish ends with black cherries and espresso bean. Except for feeling slightly lighter than it did a few years ago, the wine has not changed much over the past several years. |

Licorice, all sorts of black fruit, oldfashioned spices, exotic flowers, bacon, creme de cassis, this wine goes everywhere in your mouth and in your head. But in the long and structured finale all these nuances and complexity assemble again and cross the finish hand in hand. Sweetness is not overbearing and gives this wine its pleasant and intense, unctuous mouthfeel. Phenomenal wine. 19+/20 |

The near unanimous selection for WOTN (not just the flight). This was slow-oxed for 7 hours. Incredible nose. Similar to the Marauder but amped up. Black raspberries, blueberries, floral notes, white pepper, a bit of cassis, and some spice. OMG, the texture. Supple, silky, full bodied. I was doing some spitting on this night, but mouth.brain refused to allow this to be spit. Black raspberries, layered with blueberries, slight baked earthiness. There is something for everyone here. I was surprised how across all the palates on the table, this was loved. I bought this on release from back in the day when SQN was available on the retail shelves here in Ohio. Sadly, that ended with the 06 vintage. Really a wow wine! |

5/1/2012 - steinersing wrote: 97 pointsGreat intensity and purity. Had it side-by-side with the 2004. A lot of similarities - the 2002 perhaps a slightly more giving nose, the 2004 slightly more complete mid-palatte. Opened 6 hours ahead - think this could even be drunk straight after opening. Not huge difference between the time I opened the bottle and when we drank it. |

8/28/2012 - onholiday wrote: 96 pointsWhat more can be said about this wine? Great aromas of spice, fruit, vanilla. Opened on 10th wedding anniversay celebration. Aired two hours. Seemingly seamless with a complexity of flavors that are hard to describe. Clearly blueberry, cassis, some earthyness. Tannins are hard to pick out, but there is clearly heft to the wine. Finish lingers and lingers...not quite for ten years, but it leaves you sated but craving more! Glad I have couple more. Was paired with Spottswoode 2002 and Insignia 2002. All were excellent, but if I had to rank order them, it would be Insignia, JFTLOI, Spottswoode. All less than one point apart :) All in all....a great night! |

9/1/2012 - Robert Pavlovich wrote: 94 pointsThis wine tastes plenty concentrated and fresh, but I can't help but think that time isn't helping this one when such amplified fruit is a main feature. Tasted against the 2007 dangerous birds Syrah, and thought this was clearly beaten out. Somehow thought the Viognier got in the way of the Syrah here a bit. |
