3/9/2024 - seeyouintee Likes this wine: 85 pointsPnP - Red/purple berry medley, powdery tannins, and a touch of earthiness. This almost seems like it might get a bit better with air. I'm half tempted to cork it until tomorrow, but in my experience exactly zero of TJ's wines have stood up to a single day once opened. |

8/31/2023 - mflesh wrote: NRHad the luxury of trying this bottle "pre-release." This is as "Syrah" as a Syrah gets. From the first sip to the last drop, you just get the impression that this wine isn't gonna lie to you. It's not gonna steal your girlfriend. It's not gonna promise you something that it won't deliver. This is Syrah in its true expression without any added SO2. It's as "pure" as Syrah gets. The nose is black and purple fruit. The palate is blackberries, black cherry, roasted fruits, even a hint of roasted nuts, black olives, black figs. The palate is medium to full bodied, finishing with just enough black pepper that it rounds it out beautifully. This is Syrah in a glass. Just about as pure an expression as it gets without any smoke and mirrors. VERY NEAT wine. A wine geek's delight! Not sure how long this will hold, but I do know that Syrah naturally has a ton of tannin so I'd say that this one is good to go for 5-7 years with proper cellaring. This wine went very well with a pecan crusted redfish as it was less "roasted" than other Syrahs on the table. Shay compared this wine to the 2018 Cornas T. Allemand on the table with rather similar roasted fruit characteristics. The 2018 Cornas obviously had the upper hand (with four years of age on it) but strikingly similar profile on the nose (and somewhat on the palate as well). Really awesome, fun, nerdy comparison, and a great wine to introduce someone to the world of Syrah! 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |
