Method: barrel sample at the domaine (in the cellar)

Nose: violet, bacon, cherry, raspberry

Palate: violet, olive, bacon, raspberry; medium+ to full- round body; medium acidity; medium+ to high- round drying tannins

Overall thoughts: Wow! I know it's not ready yet, but I'd buy it now if they let me. Explosive on the nose and palate. Voluptuous and concentrated. Really impressive tannins considering how incredibly young it is. Already showing some nice complexity. Not surprisingly, I think this will get better and better over a long period of time. Excellent wine!

Pale colour with hints of golden hues - no hint of the grape skin colour.
Pear, apple, stone fruits on the nose.
Palate has primary notes of pear, green apple skin, melon and white nectarine.
Nice complexity of slithered almonds and nuttiness in the mid-palate.
A light bodied, dry wine with good freshness and acid drive making the palate linear.

I opened my first ever bottle with friends last night for dinner. One of whom only drinks shiraz, so it was going to an interesting experience for us all.
It was white.
It had alcohol.
It had minimal body.
Minimal nose
Nothing that would have suggested that it was a white shiraz.
I will use my 5 remaining bottles as a curiosity in various wine tastings I facilitate as a talking point until they are used.
the 2019 Châteauneuf-du-Pape that I bought yesterday morning at Costco was a far more interesting and enjoyable shiraz that we all enjoyed.

Timo Mayer new releases tasting (Mere Catherine, Potts Point): Lovely peppery spice has a touch of dustiness, black hued fruits, blue berry, slight alcohol prickle, touch of sulphur. Juicy, fleshy, dense powdery tannins join the black fruits and peppery notes, savoury. Yum.

Light garnet color. Cranberry and raspberries in the nose. No discernable oak. Light bodied. Reminds me of a Beaujolais without the grapey fruit component. Pleasant quaffer and a good value.

Juicy, jammy, fruit forward, all primary. Deep ruby in the glass, moderately aromatic nose of dark fruit, palate is dry, tannins soft, black plum, cherry, berry, note of violet candy, hint of spice, medium + body and finish. Nice.

PnP - Red/purple berry medley, powdery tannins, and a touch of earthiness. This almost seems like it might get a bit better with air. I'm half tempted to cork it until tomorrow, but in my experience exactly zero of TJ's wines have stood up to a single day once opened.

Trader Joe’s Reserve Syrah. Wahluke Slope, 2022. $9.99.
Syrah is the primary wine I make. As a result I have particular taste preferences. There needs to be enough tannin and acidity to balance out the richness of the fruit. This wine has it. There is the juicy, black fruit up front, but with an above average tannic middle. The finish is silky with enough acidity to linger a bit.

Wonderful color and clarity. Dry and closed resulting in a flat non descriptive taste. After 60+ minutes perhaps starting to open. Worth trying more age on this wine.

Had the luxury of trying this bottle "pre-release." This is as "Syrah" as a Syrah gets. From the first sip to the last drop, you just get the impression that this wine isn't gonna lie to you. It's not gonna steal your girlfriend. It's not gonna promise you something that it won't deliver. This is Syrah in its true expression without any added SO2. It's as "pure" as Syrah gets. The nose is black and purple fruit. The palate is blackberries, black cherry, roasted fruits, even a hint of roasted nuts, black olives, black figs. The palate is medium to full bodied, finishing with just enough black pepper that it rounds it out beautifully. This is Syrah in a glass. Just about as pure an expression as it gets without any smoke and mirrors. VERY NEAT wine. A wine geek's delight! Not sure how long this will hold, but I do know that Syrah naturally has a ton of tannin so I'd say that this one is good to go for 5-7 years with proper cellaring. This wine went very well with a pecan crusted redfish as it was less "roasted" than other Syrahs on the table. Shay compared this wine to the 2018 Cornas T. Allemand on the table with rather similar roasted fruit characteristics. The 2018 Cornas obviously had the upper hand (with four years of age on it) but strikingly similar profile on the nose (and somewhat on the palate as well). Really awesome, fun, nerdy comparison, and a great wine to introduce someone to the world of Syrah!
