11/24/2023 - oenophilemoose wrote: 79 pointsI have to agree with Optimus Wine's note of 05/31/2021. We are big fans of Darioush Merlot and purchased a case of this vintage. We have consumed eight bottles and all have been earthy and rustic. Not typical of previous vintages that have been rich, pleasant to the palate with well balanced tannins on the finish. We always decant at least an hour and consume over the next two or three. Anyone else with a similar experience with the 2018 vintage? Disappointed. |

The most recent bottle was double decanted and consumed at a local sushi restaurant. This time around the wine was silky on the palate and the fruit was delicate and pleasant to consume. |

3/1/2022 - oenophilemoose wrote: 93 pointsI'm scratching my head trying understand the previous reviews. First, you need to decant this wine for about 90 minutes. Then you will discover a Zinfandel with no edges or brambles. It is silky smooth with a purity of fruit with a hint of candied ripeness. This will appeal to most including me, a hardcore lover of the Harley Davidson of wines, Petite Sirah. |

7/17/2022 - oenophilemoose wrote: 95 pointsVery brief decant. My favorite varietal is Petite Sirah, however this Pinot may induce me to go over to the dark side. Smooth as silk but with rich, plush fruit and a wonderfully lingering finish. Another homerun for Mike Reynolds and his team at Walt. |

12/29/2019 - oenophilemoose wrote: 93 pointsAn oenophile friend shared this very special bottle from his cellar last night. This wine is just a baby and time didn't allow for a proper decant. Even with the age and o2 disadvantages, this wine displayed tremendous promise. Dark and dense, elegant and palate coating, this Cabernet Franc also had a deft balance of acidity and tannins for an enjoyable finish. A couple more years in the bottle and time in the decanter should present an exceptional wine. 93+ now with great potential. |

Decanted the most recent both for 90 minutes and were pleased the rustic edges were dissipating. Purchased nine bottles based on tasting experience at the winery but was disappointed with the first four attempts. |

2/18/2023 - oenophilemoose wrote: 94 pointsDecanted for over an hour. This is such a compelling wine, I felt I should write a note with my humble assessment. As with previous reviews, this is a rich and luscious Merlot with lengthy finish coupled with those wonderful Switchback tannins. It's difficult to describe the fruit and mouthfeel since they put my pleasure centers into overdrive. I may be biased, but Kelly and her family are some of the kindest folks in the business (not to mention their stunning winemaking). |

Without this disclaimer, I would have sent this wine back as flawed. However, I must confess, I never met an Italian wine that I truly enjoyed. I have come to the conclusion that most Italian wines are an acquired taste (at least for me). Even their renowned Borolo's, "the wine of kings and the king of wine", cannot compare to other old world and new world wines. If Borolo is the "The wine of Italian Kings", then I understand why Italy has a new government every three months. I feel much better now, especially after consuming a couple of glasses of a New World Bordeaux blend. |

6/19/2017 - oenophilemoose wrote: 93 pointsWe spend a month every year in Napa Valley to visit some of our favorite wineries and also to find new experiences. The Scherrer Winery was our find of the year. The Scherrer family are some of nicest folks in the industry and without a doubt, make some of best wines in Sonoma County (or any country). I am not a Rosé or white wine lover, but the Scherrer Driy Rosé hit it out of the park. Cannot wait until the 2017 vintage is released. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |
