2012 Vietti Moscato d'Asti

Very good Moscato. Unlike the ocean of very basic Moscato, this has flavors of peach, candied pineapple, poached pears and is layered. The sweetness is gentle instead of overpowering and the frizzante adds a tickle and a counterweight to the sugar.

Clean, crisp and refreshing, this is a porch pounder if there ever was one! If you like grapefruit and melon, buy a cold bottle and guzzle this down.

Very hot and spicy with lots of notes of earth and game. A medium bodied wine, I think it presents pretty good value. And, as an aside, I really like the direction of more and more CdR being Grenache based.

Wow. A big, dominant and powerful styled wine with lots of iron, graphite, earth, humus, rocks, minerals and tons of dark, brooding fruit. Currants, richness, meat and animal on the finish. The palate is velour like and very smooth, polished and rounded. A very big and very full bodied wine, it is a monumental showing and a candidate for wine of the vintage for me.

A lovely casual sip. Minerals, kosher salt, lemon, lime, salt water, brine and rocks as well as fruit flavors of pear, nectarine and white peach. Just a really pleasant aperitif white.

Good but I liked the '10 better. A bit basic with apple, quince and pineapple notes along with huge levels of acid.

The nose is very rich and fruity with the absence of traditional Chablis notes of flint but the palate is the opposite; very flinty, chalky and brine like with the addition of oyster shells and crushed rocks.

I always like this wine and think that it continues to be the gateway drug into White Burgundy. Smoke on the palate with ripe tropical fruit and orange pith. A lovely wine that is very high on my QPR.

Admittedly, I tend to favor CdP blanc that show more (some!) Viognier, so this isn't necessarily my style. That being said, I though that the aromatics were restrained and basic and that the palate was too linear for CdP blanc. Basic minerals, and white fruit but none of the rounded unctuous texture and tropical fruit that I typically look for.

Admittedly, I prefer CdP blanc with Viognier in it, but this has lots of the tropical flavors that I look for like Saturn peach, Anjou pear and sweet white fruits. I found a very pronounced note of pineapple lifesaver gummy that I really liked. The medium acid is perfect for this wine

Grilled bread notes show up along with honey, beeswax and white fruits on the nose though the palate is a bit disjointed with lots of Chablis-like flint. An odd style Meursault.

Huge levels of acid as well as minerals, peach, tropical white fruit, pear, and brine. Good but I like the '10s better.

More medium bodied but still showing that huge acid that all young Chablis have (but particularly the Christian Moreau wines). I don't see these wines as needing as much time as the '10s but I like the quality better in the previous year. White fruit, salt, minerals, melon.

Still, as good as these wines are, they don't have the excitement that the '10s had, which I still remember from a year ago. Crazy amounts of acid, white fruit, grass, minerals and oysters.

Good, classically styled Chablis. Ripe fruit, showy style, broader palate and fruit notes all while maintaining the crisp and searing acid that young Chablis need.

Like many of the Grand Cru '11s, this is shut down (though it did give off more than most, as was true of Faiveley in general). Notes of barrel wood, coconut, beeswax and lanolin. The fruit is there but you have to dig deep. Has potential but very tough to evaluate today.

Richer and rounder, my mind wouldn't have automatically gone to Meursault. Tropical fruit notes jump around as well as quince and a chalky, briney quality as well.

Tropical fruit notes of peach, pineapple, golden apple, pears and mango dominate. The wine is a touch primary and I didn't notice the structure that I often look for in Meursault, particularly in one that costs as much as this Prieur. Too expensive.

Flint, steel, chalk and lime dominate this high acid and tart wine. A touch of chalk dust and chalk board eraser are on the nose as well as flower leaves and buds.

This is declassified Lirac and, next year, will be called Lirac. Very sweet fruit with a lot of acid and a pickle of heat on the tip of the tongue. Kind of basic and easy drinking.

Very round and very ripe with plenty of upfront fruit and a dark, full bodied mid-palate (my guess is because of the Mouvedre). Plenty of heat and red pepper on the tip of the tongue and following into the finish, this is a spicy style CdP.

The nose of this wine is all fruit; plenty of blue and black fruits (both fresh and cooked). The palate shows more fresh herbs, licorice, fennel and spice. This is a very silky, polished and modern showing from Clos des Brusquieres.

Showing Asiatic spices, Thai food, blue and black fruits, pie crust, graham cracker, brown sugar and plenty of red pepper flakes. One of the better and more aromatically complex '11 CdPs for me.

2/19/2013 - Reptibark wrote: 88 points

I liked this wine but I typically find way more business about the Boislauzon CdP and this was a bit of a disappointment (particularly when I found out that they didn't make '11 Quet or Tintot and everything went into this!). The wine shows muscle and is full bodied but that appears to be the dominate trait as opposed to fruit, spice or style. Missed the mark for me.

This wine reminds me of Chinese food, with the sweet/spicy notes of duck fat, grease, fresh and dried herbs and a long finish. It is full bodied and deep, with lots of character. I've never had Chante le Merle before but I am now looking forward to trying other vintages.
