Tasted at a retail tasting. The first nose was interesting; yeasty and cinnamon rolls but it blew off quickly and became rapidly dull. On the palate, this has quite fine mousse but the flavors are diluted, almost watery. Acidic and almost tart. Easily forgettable and if anybody drinks this as their first champagne and thinks this is representative, they will likely never come back to bubbles.

Not sure if I'm blinded by the fact that I'm loving Portoguese wines at the moment, or that I've stumbled on the best Opimian bottle we've ever had - Dark, full bodied with a nose of extreme plum, raisin, cherry, spice and vanilla, very nicely structured and balanced, complex, sweet, very smooth on the palate with terrific length, awesome! The nose is tobacco layered with leather and cedar. The palate is a red fruit core surrounded by animal notes, tobacco, mushrooms and cedar. The finish has some fine, soft tannins balanced by acidity that brings sour cherries to mind. A good once a week wine, as you could get tired of this particular profile.

The fruit has seemed to have started fading into the limelight at this point, though there remains plenty of acidic freshness, along with some bitter, earthy flavors. Strictly a food wine at this point, and while an interesting try at the price, it's not one I'd recommend seeking out.

Nose fairly closed but opened over time to a sweet dark cherry and heavy pomegranate. A bit of must on the nose that cleaned up over time. Nice entry and very fruity and flavourful mid-mouth. A bit candyish with quite primary fruit. Finishes with a nice touch of pepper and very light tannins. A touch of leafiness on the finish as well. Clearly a new world concoction with the sweet primary fruit and very light wood complexity; well balanced and tasty overall.

The kids brought a bottle over last night. It unfortunately followed a 2009 Seghesio Sonoma County Zinfandel. I popped it, poured a taste, took a sip and made the sound of a bomb dropping from an airplane and then exploding on the ground. Plonk. Someone rolled the grape juice truck up, added some mega purple and bottled it as wine. Son said Gallo's target market is 25-35 year old women. Uh, yup. No nose, all fruit, no structure whatsoever no acidity, no tannins. RS had to be 4-5%. Great guzzling wine. Should have come in a 1 gallon jug with a thumb ring. Nice label, catchy name.

17$ @ mlcc - new grape for me - Lacrima - not common. This style here is ooold school! Funky old world to say the least - nose its you like a ton of bricks with musty barnyard and some locker room? Palate has light tannin and acid and lots of that earth and must. Some hints of dark brambly berry perhaps. Smoky coffee notes on finish. This is kind of a unique taste - havent quite had this dramatic musty/earth experience in all my tasting memories! I am going to let this air out for 24 hrs and try again.

Otherwise, this is not something i would care to come back to...

Have you heard the one about Ronald Macdonald, Walt Disney and Arbuck Macstarbucks getting together to start the ultimate wine bar franchise? No, I didn't think so, but it was worth a try. This is a completely inoffensive, neutered, sanitized, easy-iron version of Italian red wine. Yes, it is from Verona. No, it doesn't have the cheeky cherries of Valpolicella and if you are looking for tannins, balsamic characteristics or any characteristics at all other than a kind of soupy sweetish 13,5% alcopop, then you are in the wrong cinema, man, this is not arthouse. But there are no real faults, and it slips down without really offending... 82P

Ya, i like this, great low price and hence perfect QPR. Reminded that this is lighter style than i expected. Nice balance of fruit/tannin/acid, but perhaps is lacking a little backbone. Fruit is nice and subtly complex. Great without food and mix with variety of fare. Drinking fine just now, would be nice house wine, but would not cellar any. Will likely last at least 2-5 more years, but again is smooth and drinks fine now.

So given that, this isnt to bad...but agree with the whole QPR thing.

Bit of a hole on the mid-palate, then re-emerges with caramel and pine needles. Good length on the finish. Medium weight. See my prior tasting notes on this wine. This bottle had an insufficient backbone. There was sufficient fruit, but just about no tannin and no complexity. More like a juice than a wine. Not as good as the last bottle of this batch (I bought 6). This could have come from a bad batch. Overall, the 2006 was quite good (fabulous QPR), the 2007 good and the 2008 just barely a 90.

Aside from Nouveau Beaujolais, I think this my first Northern Hemisphere red wine fro the 2011 vintage. It very much reminds me of Beaujolais. We have that soft easy drinking fruit from whole cluster fermentation and carbonic maceration. Don't think they broke the skins. All stainless fermentation and settling. Not all bad, this wine is very simple. Designed to drink immediately. Light purple color. Very expressive fresh, spicy, and earthy, blueberry and cherry nose. The palate leans more toward ripe plum and soft blueberry. Not even medium bodied. Tasted blind I would have trouble identifying this as 100% Tempranillo. Not much mid palate. Silky little tannins are persistent on the palate and finish. Probably did not get full malo lactic, as there is some of that sour milk acidity. Stains the glass purple. The 14% alcohol is very well hidden. The finish is more plum skins. This is not my style of red wine, these grapes could have been used to make a more conventional and desirable wine, I'm sure others may disagree.

Needed some Chardonnay for a recipe so I picked this up for $12 at a local grocery store and for that price, I was quite happy with this wine. There are some nice tropical fruits on the nose but the wine does lean toward what I call the traditional California style of oaky and buttery. Fans of these more oaky, buttery wines will certainly like this but if you don't care for that style then this might not be your wine.

A friend picked this up because he liked the label, and this evening we popped and poured to sip while playing a game. This drinks like unsweetened cherry juice with a little kick to it. We picked up slight salty and bitter aspects, but in the end this is very simple, smooth, fruit juicy wine with no structure. Not quite bad enough to dump out, but not really enjoyable, either.

Given the choice, we'd recommend buying cherry juice.

Decanted with the Vinturi and allowed to breathe for 60 minutes.
Nose: Good dark fruit initially and throughout the next 90 minutes.
Color: Garnet
Body: Full bodied, great legs and mouthfeel.
Taste: Strong dark fruit initially, followed by mild tannins. Not that much structure or complexity. Much closer to a fruit bomb than an oak bomb.
Finish: Nice length. Pleasant with no off notes.
Overall: Pleasant enough for $7.47 at Total Wine. Not a wowee wine, but a decent effort for this price point. Will continue to buy this wine while searching for an alternative that provides that wowee response.
