1998 Aussie Showdown dinner (Jade Palace Restaurant): Open before dinner for bottle breath and serve as 2nd wine for the night.
Dark ruby with glossy crimson hue, open up nicely for tasting with lots of minty character on the nose along with blackcurrant and cedar oak.
It has robust but smooth palate contributed by its age, with cassis, minty eucalyptus and hints of oak and earthiness. Layers fruits and seamless mid-palate extend into a long lingering finish with fine tannins.
Showing very well for the night and the group preferred this to Domain A. A Margaret River victory for this flight!

Year End Celebration Dinner with our shared wines (Imperial Treasure Cantonese Cuisuine, Great World City): Awesome Champagne, full of energitic beads. Powerful and complex nose of yeast, biscuit, lemon curd, yellow fruits with hints of toastiness. The entry is fresh, creamy and yet robust with lively acidity. It has the perfect balance and weightier palate. Flavours of ripe pear, lemon and citrussy. A long and linger aftertaste.

Monday night Dinner (Bedrock Bar & Grill): Clear ruby red, complex nose of roasted herbs and exotic spice, subtle smokiness and hints of capsicum.
On palate it has dark cherry, blueberry, herbs and white pepper. Chewy tannins with long finish, still young and not yet at its peak. Still need time to develop.

Dead Arm Vertical dinner (Ola Cocina Del Mar, Marina Bay Financial Centre): Dark garnet with vivid glossy hues, subtle nose of black fruits, plums interwoven with herbaceous, earth, oak and hints of chocolate. Sweet ripe fruits on palate with balance notes of coffee and vanilla oak. Palate here is showing better than the nose. It has a nice balance overall, mellow with soft ripe fruits after more than 10 years of aging.

That said "Robust" is a wine descriptor for opulent, rich and full bodied wine that I often use. To me '01 DA just no longer fit into this category probably due to more than 10 years of aging. Frankly speaking I wasn't impress by DA in the past but now I started to appreciate after the recent DA vertical. However, out of so many producers from McLaren Vale my heart is always with Kay Bro and its block 6. I will not hesitate to describe it as a robust wine. Pop open a bottle and you will find out what I mean. (Maybe a '05? Still young but why not? I just love the power and purity of fruits in this wine ;-) )
