Absolutely delicious, and glad I have a mag of this as this is a massive sparkler that will hold and develop for 20 years. Served with an avocado turkey sandwich and a cob salad and garlic fries. Beautiful with all of them. Massive yellow fruit character with brioche, hint of buttermilk biscuit, but finishes with a slight lemon jam note. I prefer this profile in my Champagne and sparkling wines vs the leaner reductive style for the most part however there is definitely a need for both in the cellar! Be in no rush to pop these if you have them. But, due to the significant character and massive structure, this one would go beautifully with just about anything served with it.

Barley golden hue with a fine, creamy mousse. Although it initially comes across as light, delicate, and lean, it is high-toned with a flashy beam of crisp acidity. Yeast, brioche, lime, citrus, vanilla, baking spices, and cream flavors augment its great texture. Closes with a long, mineral-inflected lemon citrus punch. Acts more like a Blanc de Blancs than it does a Blanc de Noirs. Outstanding.

Light salmon color. Steady and broad mousse. Strawberry and peach bouquet with a soft and creamy mouthfeel. Good depth of flavor and it has some zip to it, but not much in terms of stones or mineral backbone. Medium-long finish. 4+11+17+8= 90

Deep gold with hints of copper. Cork comes out with a surprisingly sedate sigh. Very appley on the nose- raw yellow apples, fresh pressed cider, then some sour Granny Smith. Meyer lemon, honey drops, toast. Acidity is on the high side, though not as high as the 2009 that I had last year. Again there are flavors of apples, though they taste a bit more cooked than the nose would suggest, along with sweet lemons, honey, a bit of caramel, almond paste, toastiness, a touch of warm spice. Imagine the flavor of an apple pie with all the sweetness removed. Mousse is a bit course initially, but settles down after an hour or so and becomes a pleasant fizzy prickle by day two. Overall, a very nice wine though a bit more developed that the 2009 I had last year.

Enjoyed this for the second year in a row with Thanksgiving dinner and it went perfectly. One of the finest American bubblies on a distinctly American holiday. I’m liking this tradition…

A week in Napa for the Napa Valley Grape Growers Harvest STOMP party; 8/22/2017-8/27/2017 (Napa, CA): When you are hanging out at the pool and a little hungover - nothing like popping some tasty bubbly to while away the afternoon. The Schramsberg BdB is a great value bubbly, with lemony acidity and lively bubbles - perhaps a bit higher dosage than the typical entry level grower champagne - but very easy to drink as an aperitif sans food.

Yeasty on the nose but all apple and brioche on the palate - still crisp but showing awesome development of some slight caramel rounding out an awesome sparkler. Love Schramsberg.

Very light golden color in the glass. Pretty fine bubbles. Sauerkraut on the nose for first 15-20 minutes was heavy at first, but settled nicely into a fresh note with honey, guava and crushed strawberries. Sweetness but clean and balanced. Lovely.

Yes this is an insane score but this is an unbelievable wine. The acidity is stunning. Beautiful nuttiness and brioche. I'm sorry but this wine absolutely rivals Krug for me. I think this may be my favourite sparkling wine (including champagne) in the world. Will be buying a lot more. This is Schramsberg's top cuvée and if this was in champagne it would cost even more. I honestly think this is terrific value. Love it

Honeymoon Wine Tasting; 6/25/2012-7/3/2012 (California - Napa & Sonoma Counties): Tasted at Winery. 91% Pinot Noir, 9% Chardonnay. Light golden in color, with a mild aroma of fruit, buttery oak, and nuts. The flavor is predominately citrus, with a heavier mouthfeel. Sparkles on the tongue with sweetness. Moderate length finish with minimal complexity.

Pretty copper color with lots of pin prick bubbles and sourdough bread dough, persimmon, and tangerine aromas. On the palate, it has an explosive, yet delicate mousse with persimmon, tangerine, and vanilla flavors with hints of honey and Queen Anne cherries. Medium long finish.

The first vintage where this is branded as "blancs".

The USA's greatest traditional method sparkler continues to impress. The nose smells like a literal fruit basket: Orange peel! White peach! Apple! Pear! (all mostly in the 'ripe' stage) There's also a hint of some kind of tropical fruit; but I can't identify it. If that wasn't enough, there are a lot of non-fruit aromas too - buttered toast, caramel, creme brulee and roasted nuts.

Smells amazing; but how does it taste? The flavors are MOSTLY consistent with the aromas, except the toast tastes almost burnt and there is a very pleasant smokiness on the finish.

Medium + body, insane zippy acid that shows this wine still has years of life ahead of it. Shocklingly, given the acid, this is more rounded than it is linear.

As delicious as this is now, it still has a long way to go. If you have a case of these, open one now. Otherwise, I would age this 5+ more years at least.

Light peach hue with a broad and persistent fizz.
Not getting any bretty off-note as mentioned in a prior review. It has a creamy mouthfeel with orchard fruits like peach and cherry leading the way. Cleans up with a bite of acidity on a medium-long finish. Fully serviceable, but not very special. 4+11+17+7= 89

This may sound crazy, but I really enjoyed a glass of this with a fatty bacon cheeseburger. I had blended applewood smoked bacon into the burger meat and grilled. The sparking wine cut right through the fat and the saltiness, and balanced out all the burger was bringing. As unconventional as it might seem, I highly recommend.

A real funk when first opening, but that blew off within a few minutes as it warmed up a bit. Mushroom and nuttiness prevailed on the nose. More mushrooms and nuts on the palate, but also a fair amount of baked apples, with some peach, orange/citrus pastry cream and typical leesy notes. A creamy texture was quite nice, but the overall balance just felt off with this bottle. 8 g/L of RS makes me wonder if this is a case where less is more in terms of dosage. I paired it with pan seared duck breast and grilled broccoli rabe, and it held up well in that department. While I generally love the LD bottlings from Schramsberg, this one left me wanting.

Aaah the standard Schramsberg BdB... The Caymus of Champagne... or rather, the Caymus of California “sparklers.” Doughy, pie crusty, lemon curdy, banana peely, creme brûléey, high dosagey, fill-your-hot-tub-with-the-tears-of-a-thousand-orphansy.... “beverage.”

Drink just BEFORE you think leaving your family for the circus is a good idea......
