Dark crimson color. Some currant and dark red fruit notes on the nose along with some earthy, barnyard notes, a bit of green veggies, tobacco and cedar. Really nice mature cab nose. Similar flavors on the palate with a really nice mix of cassis and tomato sort of going on with a bit of oak on the back end. Fine, sweet tannins and medium acidity. Finished smooth as well. Really impressive showing from this wine and it is unbelievable that the wine is 16 years old. It drinks like it is half that old.

decanted for 30 mins, aromas of dark fruit, Brambly berries, old world wood on the palate, similar fruit, marionberries... 18 mo in Oak... ( picking splinters out of my teeth) Medium body, long husky finish. My friend equated this to two Rhinoceros making love on a beach. agreed. Big but sensuous :)

A big thick viscous wine. Dark color with a nose of oak, raisins and bramble fruit. The taste was very interesting with big notes of prune juice, raisins, vanilla and big oak! A great cherry mid-palate with an almost savory goat cheese finish. I know that sounds crazy but the cheese aspect was always there. This is a kind of a nerd wine. Excited about it's evolution over the next years.

Decanted for 2 hours

Excellently balanced, understated cab with wonderful black fruit tones, and a luscious palate of cassis, blackberry and a bit of vanilla. Nothing truly unusual, just a quite solid and well made Napa cab. Unlike other reviewers, my bottle had very soft tannins that suggested it was ready to drink, though I'm sure it will also hold up for several more years. Salud!

Full, ruby appearance. Lovely bouquet of cherries, raspberries, and cedar over notes of leather, conifer, and mountain air. Tightly wound but resolves itself after an hour in the glass, offering a full body, plenty of red fruit, and flavors that toggle between youth and maturity. Exhibits grip and length on the green peppercorn finish. This is a serious effort. Decant or let it slumber a few more years.

not up to the previous bottle, but the short finish was consistent... the WL hype was definitely unwarranted, but still OK for $20.

This was the second bottle of Ardente and it wasn't and better than the first. Very old world on the nose, light color. Still very tart even after a two-hour decant. Day two not much better. Very short finish. Not thrilled given the hype.

My first try on this was among other wines of much better quality so I went easy on it. I figured I would open one to see how it stood on its own. I wanted to like this so much, I really did. It just is not very good. In fact, rather than giving this away as x-mas gifts, I may use this for cooking wine... Nose of barn funk and some spice, not unpleasant. It has a weird sour red fruit thing also, but not in a good way like a chianti. Palate is tart and flimsy, like it is a little watered down, but still hot. Mid is OK, soft with some acidity. The finish is a train wreck, short, very sour and tannic with a little chalk element. Not good. This seems very old word in style but without all the goodness of old word wines. It falls somewhere in between, not good on its own and also not good with food. Just not good! Will be scrutinizing WL offers more carefully from now on...

A mature Cabernet showing some slight bricking. Spicy red currant, savory plums, wet pine needles, and lots of earthy tobacco. Structure is holding this together. Very nice, but fruit has really started to fade over the last year. Given the $25 price point this was a great opportunity to checkout an aged and mature Napa Cabernet.

Cedar closet, sweet tobacco, and cherries on the nose. Dense. Strong acid profile, cherry driven palate. Medium finish. Good wine, but simplistic palate. The nose carries it.

Not drinking it's best right now. Nose is great, palate is muted and numb. Improved after an hour + open so I would suggest a long decant, or hide it away for a while.

Open for 3 hours before I got to it. Nose has the classic Ardente funk, cured meat, strawberry, cherry, and tobacco are all on the nose.

Palate is entering tart cherry, cola, full mouth feel with a weighty tannic grit. If I ha more is save them for another 5+ years.

Color: Deep crimson with slight bricking.
Nose: Floral/capers, kalamata olive, cherry and tea.
Palate: The first couple sips had a viscous, palate coating feel which I did not enjoy. This did go away after breathing in the glass for about an hour. Black cherry, ripe plum and tea on the mid-palate which holds through the finish. Still has some tannins holding on.

Dark in the glass and still on the purple side, the nose is a really nice mix of berry and spices, sweet but with some depth. On the palate, this begins with more of that sweet berry along with some cherry, then the medium-bodied mid-palate kicks in with solid but smooth tannin that dominates for just a moment, but then backs down into a nice smooth finish with cinnamon and a bit of licorice. The finish is medium length, at most, but there is a nice acidity that balances with the fruit and keeps this wine remarkably fresh for an 8-year-old bottle. My one complaint might be a lack of depth, but I certainly am not seeing anything that would cause me to score this wine in the under-80 class. It's a good daily-drinker-type effort that delivers on the $20 price point. Not particularly special, but certainly not plonk, either. I drank my first two bottles without posting a note, but the bottles I have had have all been the same, with no substantial bottle variation noted.

Regretting the purchase.

Sorry, not a "stunning" wine as another reviewer at Wine Express has stated - not even close. if so, I just don't taste it (respectfully). Upon opening, the nose shows quite a bit of promise - berries, cassis, some floral - and had every indication of a very nice wine to follow. However, the taste was quite disappointing. Very tannicy and thin. The fruits and complexity were just not there. I decanted and left for an hour and then proceeded to drink for the next several hours. Tannins died down a bit but the fruitiness of the Cab just did not come out - remaining quite thin. There are sediments in the bottle so I recommend using a wine funnel with a filter. Thinking this could be an exception, I opened a second bottle several days later and had very similar observations. This time I left what I did not drink in the bottle for another day or two. The wine just did not get any better and the window for drinking after opening should not be more than 2 days as it starts deteriorating very quickly thereafter. I had to pour the remaining portion not drunk into the sink.
Very regretful purchase (I got a whole case, unfortunately) and can only conclude this has been over marketed and now the vendor is trying to sell existing inventory. Since I have many bottles left, the remaining bottles will be cellar ed and gradually opened in the next few months/year. I will adjust my review if different (but I sincerely have doubts).

Updating my earlier review to upgrade the score. This wine needs to be opened at room temperature (which I define as between 68-72 degrees F), decanted for no less than 2 hours and served with decently marbled steak. The meat's fat will neutralize the tongue-drying tannins and bring out the best in this wine. The nose is excellent (like a nicely aged Bordeaux) which leads to my concern with letting the wine age too much longer: The bouquet will diminish and not outlast the softening of tannins. Best to drink in the next two years, manage the temperature when the wine is served and pair with marbled meats to maximize the fine attributes of this wine. Upgrading to 85 points.
