Start with really like this wine now but think it will improve. the nose is very tart cherry and spices with some definite wet forest floor. The palate this thing announces itself right away with some very bright acidity but equally bright fruit while remaining light on its feet. Finish is very nice. Drank half and re-corked and on day 2 the acidity wasn't nearly as pronounced and more nuance on the palate. You can drink it now but wait if you can and I think it gets much better. Will do that with my remaining bottles.

Amazing Cab, as usual from Ceritas (was even better on day 2, btw). If you go into this expecting Napa or perhaps even Bordeaux, this just isn't playing that game. This is extremely fine tuned, introverted Cab. It's impeccably balanced. Tea and tobacco with fruit and fine tannins. Speaks with inner voice all the way through. Unusual Cab for CA.

If I had to reduce Certias' house style to one word, I would use "vibrant." This is a vibrant and exciting wine. Salinity and citris abound with a balanced roundness coming from judicious use of oak. The hit of the night.

Cherry pit and underbrush lead the way like a premier cru red burgundy. Good acidity and mouth feel. Finishes with a nice touch of minerality. Elegant style of Pinot Noir that enjoy.

Clear, light garnet color. Clean aromas, medium+ intensity, youthful notes of black cherry, fig paste, raspberry, violet, clove, allspice, saffron, sandalwood and tea. Dry on the palate with medium+ flavor intensity. High acid, medium to low tannin. Juicy and bright red fruit- cherry and raspberry; earth notes of limestone, chalk, mushroom; spice notes of cardamom, allspice, sandalwood. Harmonious and finesse-driven. Silky fine-grain tannin. Complex, and full on the finish. Drinking very well out of the gate, with a lot of future promise.

Extremely light bodied and floral. This is all red fruits; strawberry, raspberry preserves, and watermelon along with clean leather on the nose. The wine takes on quite a bit of weight with extended air time and on the palate you get another heavy dose of dark red fruits that will make you question how it's possible to cram that much depth into such a delicate wine. The acidity on the front (a signature I find in Ceritas wines) and the slightly drying tannins make me think I'll wait a few years before opening the next bottle.

Wow. This was my first Ceritas pinot from this vineyard and it might be my favorite. Some of the purest, fresh red fruit notes I have smelled on a pinot in a while. Just beautiful, fresh raspberry, strawberry and cranberry notes mixed with sweet spices, a bit of earth and a touch of forest floor. Stellar nose. Similar flavors on the palate with a real delicious factor but in a pure fruit way. You can barely tell this wine saw any oak and at under 13% abv, it is juicy and fresh but not thin and light by any means. This was really great and I am mad I only had one bottle of this!

Popped and aerated for 4+ hours, light straw-gold with a slight haze. Lovely aromas of freshly sliced lemon, lime zest, green melon, lifted florals, candle wax and sea spray. Moderate to moderate-plus body with a smooth, quite concentrated for the producer. Veers profound with a dynamic expression of crushed stones soaked in lemon oil that's tinged with orange and fresh herbs...almost hard to put into words. And although plus acidity is greatly concealed by both impact of flavor and such a smooth, rounded mouthfeel, by adding an element of subtle electricity to the cascading close it augments every facet of this beautiful wine.
A wonderful wine and huge success for Ceritas in 2013, awesome.

Day 2 update:

As is often the case with young bottles of Ceritas, this wine might even be more joyful on the 2nd day and is a perfect example of Grand Cru quality Chardonnay the top producers in CA are making. And on that note, it's impossible not to notice how both bottle and wax capsule perfectly mimic the same from a certain producer in Chablis...one of particular renown, you might say ;)

My initial impression is that this is too young but also slightly less ripe than other vintages of this wine. Usually Ceritas Heitz has a bit of bright pineapple which is a dead giveaway but here it is not present. Nonetheless this is very good and still really too young to drink. For now I recommend a decant and leaving it out to cool room temperature to let it give its best. Fine lemon, good acid for food matching but not much complexity at this point.

My wife knows when I've had a rough day, and this was on counter when I got in the door with some fish. Lean Chard - I think their Zephyr has the edge with its apple/malic Riesling-esqe vibe, but this is right up there with great qualities. Excellent. Still lean, a little more floral than the Zephyr, but in the same world. Perhaps a tad bit softer. No oak, no bullshit. No Chard medicinal notes, just fruit, acid and wonderfulness. I'm really impressed with John Raytek's winemaking. It's modern, it's fresh, it's cutting edge.

After this seasons final pressing, it was time for a celebratory wine.

Shy nose. Even after a little decanting. Inky and dark in color. Cassis and fruit on the palate, but still in a young wine way. The tannins are tight, puckering and stemmy in note, like the bottom of a teapot. This feels vineyard, and not winemakery, free of manipulation. The term old world is a bit overused, but this is as close as you can come in California, I think. If I can summarize it I would use the old english proverb - "still waters run deep"; it's in many ways a little sleight-of-hand and shy, but has tons going on beneath. Which makes it so interesting. You keep discovering things constantly. Great wine.

Gonna have to buy this is magnum in the future … one bottle doesn’t last long around here.
I could comment on the flavor profile but I won’t
Instead I will note an alternative pairing
Try with high maintenance children - improves the experience greatly

Color: medium ruby
Nose: starts stemmy. Opens up with sicilian tarocco Blood Orange, a milk note, red fruit, a green note as well. Hint of young green fig and red apple. Evolves into red fruit and berries, always without excess. Fantastic earthiness also emerges
Palate: lighter body, medium-high acidity, detectable tannins. On the thinner side. Today, a fine note of red cherry and ink
Finish: medium-long

Had this 5 years too early, and I still think this is the best californian pinot noir I've had this year, maybe ever. With vigorous decanting, so many pleasant aromatics, with really blood orange and even a bit of bergamot very prominent. Remarkable restraint, incredible what the sonoma coast can do for pinots. Evolution in the glass stunning, from rasp all the way to red berry galore. Fantastic

On the nose - very strong fruit bouquet (hits you at full blast), but the rhubarb compote stands out, just like grandma used to do back in Sweden in the summers. Rhubarb carries through on palate as main theme. Very light in color, almost brick-ish. Elegant and light tannins, almost no hint of oak - feels like 3rd fill neutrals or maybe just 10% new oak or something (total guess on my part). Light all the way through, very balanced, but certainly in the AFWE camp. Ends in a perfect acid tail. Cliché to call it Burgundian, but that's what comes to mind. Also hadn't had a PN in awhile (except for drunk encounter with a Lioco at Thanksgiving), so nice to have one cross my lips again. John Raytek rarely disappoints. Great s**t.

Color: light gold with green
Nose: intense. Minerals. Wet stones and chalk. Herbs and mint hints. Something hints at the pit of stone fruit. Lemon.
Palate: high acidity, medium body. dominated by minerals. Lemon. Mint. Again hints of white peach, so light.
Finish: medium-long

To simplify, this is Chablis from California, with hints of peach. Just really balanced, not afraid to be refined. This deserves a decade in cellar in my view. I popped and poured and it peaked about 1 hour after opening. I really enjoyed this

Opened yesterday, retasting today. The oak reference I made on the earlier bottle this past January, it's still here. A vanilla bean accent that comes through. For context about oak, I don't typically enjoy it on white wines and I'm sensitive to it yet I suppose here, it's just a brushing of it so take that FWIW. Some sea breeze in the aromatic, then similar chablis-like qualities of saline, yellow and green apple and a mineral note. I like this better than the bottle earlier this year, showing me now what influenced me to pull this from the cellar yesterday, to get some Chablis tones into a CA chard. Good stuff.

Light to medium body and very pale in color. At this point, very young and unevolved. On the palate, it's dominated by tart cherries, cranberries. No shortage of acid. I think this wine needs time and needs food. Several people tasted the wine with me. All of them enjoy wine, but none of them know what AFWE is or what IPOB is. No one disliked the wine, but no one was in love with it either. Some might call this "Burgundian", but I think a Premier Cru burg at this same price point delivers more complexity. But, I have several bottles, and I'm going to keep an eye on this one over the next decade.

Decanted 2+ hours (and glad that I did). Light color and viscosity betrays a full and profound flavor. Nose is a bit stingy, revealing some cassis and early season strawberry with maybe a little eucalyptus (and perhaps something a little darker? Moist redwood?). The palate is fully satisfying from front to back, leaving a nice coating of smooth tannins. Flavors include sour cherry, cassis, bing cherry. Perfectly balanced, exhibiting refined fruit, acidity, and soil. I could drink this all day and night; its saving grace is that its gravitas slows you down. Will hold on to a few bottles and taste over the coming years.

Lots of light comes through the red in the glass. Quite subdued nose with some red fruit coming through. Delicate wine on the tongue. Yes, there are “sweet” red fruits—strawberry, plum—and, maybe, a suggestion of citrus. Very light red wine that really won’t offend anybody. However, anybody looking for power is not going to find it here.

Very light and Burgundian. A gentle, tip-toeing wine on its own, but really shows its character with food. Bright red fruit: cherries and strawberries and cranberries. Acid integrates well. Low alcohol. Light bodied. Interesting and different from our norm. Obviously well done. This is a score to our tastes. Imagine this scores much higher for those who prefer a Burgundy style of Pinot.

Brilliant light gold in color and quite glistening. Nose is very aromatic with tart apple and pear. On the palate this is outstanding with what begins a bright acidity but after only 15 minutes that tends to blend in with the outstanding concentration of flavors. Quite simply this was really delicious. It's going to be hard to wait for the others in the cellar since it is drinking so well right now.

Opened about an hour ago, had a glass. Then chilled down and wrote this TN. Green and yellow apple, lime and green banana. Finishes with wet stone and an intensity of creamy lemon. Just pure Chardonnay that drinks delicious. PS--I respect many of the palates here, the tasters that have said this wine is 'drink up' or at past its prime...i just can't agree. This wine to me is drinking great and there is plenty of acidity in my bottle to think this can continue to age and please.
