{winery} Already quite good, this is understated, and, not surprisingly, coiled. The much more conservative side of off dry; the acids, presently, need at least several years of rest to come more fully into balance with the elegant white fruits. Buy all you can find. Thru 2036, highly recommended

With just 60 minutes of slow-ox, this was ready to go; it remained in fine shape over the following 2 hours. Seriously pure, with really fresh, ample acids; the kind of structure that will no doubt see this well into the next decade if you should choose to hold it that long. It's been some months since I had one of Laurence's wines, and now that the memory/taste is so fresh in my mind, it'll be hard to keep my hands off the rest of my stash (read: I'm weak, and will buy more, probably today). This just drips with class and nobility, love it. highly recommended

Served non-blind.

Domaine Weinbach is one of the monumental Alsace producers in my mind. They make some great rieslings, but their Pinot Gris always has that little charming x-factor that makes it stand out. Furthermore; Weinbach is one of the few producers that manages to pull off a balanced and elegant Gewürztraminer. This PG has aromas of white roses, peach, pear, sweet citrus, mint and mild warm spice. Delicious ripe stonefruit, acacia honey, and a somewhat light oily feel the palate - balanced by mild acidity. Spice notes and a faint herbal quality in the finish. Best expression in a Zalto white wine glass to focus the aromas. Just smooth, adequately rich and charming, this one.

Good>Very good. Drank over three days, with day one being the best for my tastes. That said, day 2, and to a lesser (aromatic) extent, day three were both enjoyable, more so with food. On PnP, the off-dry, stone and yellow fruits dominate the nose, as expected; some really pretty seashell, and linen notes with extended air. The palate is medium-bodied, the finish is med+. It's good now, but honestly, I think I'll wait for a few years on the others. Oh, Laurence, we miss you. 13,5% abv., natural cork. Purchased at the domaine on release. Drink or hold thru 2026; pure, with good structure. recommended

An exciting cuvée, packed with energy and soul. Consistent with the producer and region, this has the winning combination of fleshy fruits and perky acids that have made this a favorite of ours for as long as we've been serious about wine. There's something very magical Weinbach/Faller, and I'm quite certain that every bottle I drink will do so with the fond memory of Laurence, and her mother and that dreamy part of the world known as Alsace. Purchased at the domaine on release. 13,0% abv. drink or hold for the short>mid-term. recommended

PnP, consumed over 3 nights; served non-blind, and always with a wide smile on my face.

Appears confidently in its preferred plateau now, this is currently offering a nice blend of (early) maturity and primacy. This PnP continued to flesh out over the course of 2 hours, and added depth and a touch more complexity as it did so. A better showing than the last one I opened nearly 3 years ago, the acid/fruit balance was spot-on: lychee, honey, white orchard/tropical fruits, some brown spice, and a foundation of minerally soil. Lovely Gewurz, and I'm very happy to have 3 more; will drink within the coming 7-8 years. 13,5% abv. recommended

Day 1 - a big disappointment considering the reputation of this iconic biodynamic producer (and extremely classy bottle appearance). Mild nose - green apple, dried lemon peel, cooked pear/peach, honey, and coconut oil - if blind, I would say somewhat inexpensive sudtyrol pinot grigio or southern Italy rather than Alsace. In the mouth, rather mild and almost yogurty waxy/heavy textured acidity, and more than a little (and more than balanced) amount of residual sugar. 14.5% alcohol is somewhat integrated into the rich body but gets totally bitter and almost marmalade-like in the aftertaste. This is unbalanced to me - feels mostly overripe (not in focused VT way) with hint of underripness at the same time. Although this might work with certain food, I have to think about that very carefully. Again, global warming?? 86-87.

Day 2-3 - used bigger glass and served at higher temperature as if it were Californian chardonnay, and it did remind me of overripe unoaked new world chardonnay or pinot b/g for good or bad. Harsh bitterness didn’t go, with additional layer of spearmint at the finish. 86-87.

Day 4-9 - maybe still cold temperature is better. It’s getting more integrated with slightly more upfront acidity day by day (but still not up to the price/reputation). Worked well with fresh tomato, which cancels out the bitterness. Also worked with Nepali spicy potato (Aloo Dum) to counterbalance the sweetness/heaviness. 87-88.

Clear bright yellow color with hints of green. Medium body. Medium acidity, but the ending is bitter sweet. Mildly aromatic, grass, citrus, grapefruit, pear. On the palate - Minerals, honey, butter, grapefruit, pear, salt... an impressive mix... complex, rich, full...

Enjoyable and quite rewarding... despite the relatively high price.

Deep gold color, clear and bright. Musky melon, ripe peach, spice and lychee fruit dominate the nose. Flavors largely follow the aromas, though I fear tonight's showing may have suffered from being served at 60F as the acids just couldn't seem to muster the energy to give this the drive and definition I was looking for. Nonetheless, this was quite delicious with a scallop/bacon/shallot/spinach/sherry dish served before the big Cabs and blackened steaks. 13,5% abv. I'll likely drink my remaining four bottles before 2022. recommended

Served non-blind, aerated to decanter 45 minutes; first glass raised in honor of the lovely Laurence, taken far too soon.

A different take on Tokay Pinot Gris SGN, than I am used to. Compared to Zind-Humbrecht, from the same Vinatge, this has less acids, but just as sweet. carmel in color, viscous and loaded with honey, botrytis spiciness, burnt orange, clove a touch of smoky tire rubber, even a touch of roasted pineapple. With considerable air time the acids start to come out, but this is almost 5 hours after opening. This would o great with creme brûlée. Strange floral notes of marigold, caramels, butterscotch and golden raisin. it has a lasting finish, but this only came out over serious time, and unfortunately too late for our dessert

Like Trimbach, and Zind-Humbrecht SGN, this is more of an elixir than a wine. The florals and fruits are eve changing. It is no worse than either, but I do like the Clos Jebsal better. Their are so many waves of flavors and aromas, its impossible not to love and appreciate this wine, just different. The sweet molecules that stick between your teeth and gums are there, but not in the same way, that the Clos Jebsal does. The Z-D, seems to hold more acid than the Weinbach does, but all are great. Amazing vinification of the botrytized Pinot Gris grape. Its hard to believe that this is the same vinifera that produces crappy lemony Pinot grigio in Italy. Unbelievable stuff.

Bolognese, Brovias, and more (My place, Chicago IL): Nose: The nose is wound up somewhat tight, but still pristine and deep with white fruits, peaches, saline, apples, pears, white flowers, and crushed rocks.

Taste: The feel is Full bodied with racy, high acidity. The acidity has a lot of sting to it right now, showing off its youth. The feel is deep and refined with white fruits, peaches, apples, pears, saline, and crushed rocks.

Overall: There is a lot more this will give with time. I think this has a good amount of upside of given 5+ years as this already shows off a lot of depth and poise.

From glass. Large nose of sweet lemon, and mostly that; possibly something rockier. And, a big palate too. Fruit sweetness offset by acid, beautiful and complex palate of citruses and tropicals and petrols and bitters. Some alcohol firmly tucked away there behind all this, so can imagine this showing ugly with the wrong bottle or for the wrong palate, but for me really, really in the zone today. Sharpness to the acidity, including an end-palate "flintiness" to be perceived as "minerality," but while this is certainly Alsatian Riesling, there's enough "body" here to satisfy a chardonnay drinker. Terrific wine.

A French Bistot dinner in … London (Bouchon Racine , London): Pretty from the word go. Soft petrolly, peach, apple and of course floral. Such a pretty nose that held all the way. Light sweet citrus too. Proper acidity on the palate, fully dry, fresh and still ever so youthful. Such a bright wine and full of hope for the future. Easily another decade of great drinking here and most likely more. 92 for now.

A very good example of Sylvaner. Acidity is very noticeable right away, but not wincingly so. Made me think of Loire Sauvignon Blanc at first but this really isn’t like, say a Sancerre . Nose of grass clippings and grapefruit. Nice but muted note of cantaloupe on the palate. Very light color in the glass. Yes it is straightforward but that would also make it versatile. Could see this standing up to asparagus or problematic shellfish dishes.

Pale straw-green. Very intense, complex aromas of white peach complemented by minerals, lemon verbena and ginger. Dense, rich and very juicy, with vibrant lemony minerality framing and intensifying the wine's deep inner-mouth perfume of pure white peach. One of the finest dry wines from Weinbach in years. From 60-year-old vines planted in the middle portion of the Schlossberg, which is the heart of this great grand cru. 95+ points.

The nose has this wonderful thing going on that simultaneously reminds me of sponti funk and the earliest hint of emerging petrol, not that those two things have anything to do with each other (also no idea how the alcoholic fermentation happens here). The notes of apple and peach are there but in a pleasantly tight form, this nose is no fruit bomb. On the palate it has good volume but also great acidity and tension. This is a powerful, chiselled style of dry Riesling, built to age a bit but very easy to enjoy and respect at this early stage. Quite tangy fruited and minerally too. Well balanced at 13% ABV with a lingering finish. Excellent quality for a non-Grand Cru Riesling and with style points.
