Darker than most Sandler Pinots. A nose of creamy blackberries with a hint of soft blueberries; Quite nice. Palate shows a refined styling typical of the Keefer vineyard. This is a 'quiet' and lovely Russian River pinot devoid of any cola notes. With vigorous swirl I get some sweet menthol kike a C.Howards candy I do so like to find. Great balance on this; tannins are stealthy and acidity riding the cusp. Fresh and pure with a long and precise finish. Sandler has been and remains an amazing value in today's market and it's winemaker could very well be one of the most talented I am aware of, today Pure awesome.

Pop and pour and tasted with food (chiocciole pasta with a sauce of tomatoes and chicken, in case you were wondering).
Dark ruby color. Nose offers up blackberries and wet stones.
I find the Chalone - Boer Vineyard wines from Sandler to lean more to the savory and earthy side and this is consistent with past performance. Nice blackberry notes with a core of stone/mineral side, some herbal notes from whole cluster and a savory sage element. I am guessing that with another year or two of bottle age, this will improve significantly. Still, enjoyable at this stage.

My first Sandler and it did not disappoint. Big RR fruit. Raspberry, vanilla blueberry, herbs, light pine and pepper. Ready to go almost from pop and pour. Great introduction. No reason to wait on this one.

Sensing a slight fade (as opposed to positive development) on the bouquet compared to prior bottles. I think this has seen its peak and its time to get after it over the next year or so. It did pair up nicely with lamb chops tonight.

Let's start off with the fact that I really like this wine. Sometimes you'll read a tasting note, beautifully crafted, and wonder "did the guy like it?" Make no mistake here. Color is a fairly cloudy cranberry or strawberry, that'll be a theme here. I'm guessing Ed doesn't filter or fine his wines and regardless it doesn't matter to me. Nose is a tart red fruit with a moss note, I'd say like the dried cranberries I steal from the bulk bin at Sprouts while I'm pushing the shopping cart for my wife and assume the store attributes to "shrinkage" but I digress. Palate is cranberry right down the middle with an added strawberry flare. Light to medium bodied wine with decent acid and light toast. Finish is medium and this is the type of wine I often describe as feminine.

Pop and pour. Poured half into a 375ml bottle, stuck a cork in, and put into the refrigerator. Tasted on day one and day two from the open bottle.
Color is purple and fairly dark; clear.
Nose offers some brown spice (mace and some nutmeg) along with dark fruits and a woodsy (forest floor) element.
Blackberries and some cherry notes mixing in with brown spices. There is a good level of acidity here that gives lift to the fruit and keeps this lively and mouth watering and balanced. I ending up taking an additional pour from the closed half-bottle it was so good; I then left that half bottle in the refrigerator. Came back to it some 5 days later and it was still delicious. The fruit and acidity were all bright and the wine softened a bit but showed no sign of falling flat from oxidation.
Enjoyable.

Are you kidding? What a beautiful bottle of wine! Roses, cranberry, sour red cherry and ever so slight fresh and dried herb. Medium bodied with medium acidity and tannin. The balance on this is wonderful. This continues to evolve and blossom with decant. This very underpriced and I'm thrilled to have four more. So delicious!

Wow, this is terrific on many levels. Hey, BD10! Enough said there.

This isn't some leftover barrels with a fun label slapped on it for giggles. Lots of structure here, it's very young with firm tannins. Moves away from the sweet strawberry profile and towards dark brooding fruit, stem or oak forward. Drinking well but better days ahead.

Brought to an informal wine tasting so as to introduce Sandler to some friends.
Pop and pour and tasted with various cheeses.
Vibrant ruby red color.
Nose offers up fresh berries and some brown spice (cinnamon and hint of nutmeg).
Nice lively wine with good red berries and fresh acidity.
The cinnamon bark and nutmeg note comes in on the back end, adding an additional level to the fresh red berries.
Quite enjoyable.

PnP. This pours a translucent red with some significant bricking. Don’t be fooled by this. The palate is powerful. Cranberry, cranberry and cranberry with a layer of spice and faint earth. Wonderful QPR.

Darker than I expected (and certainly than last years version). Nose of sassafras and red cherries, As it sat in glass it started showing some wonderful density of fruits and a wonderful hi-toned backbone. Elegant and pure with a wonderful array of red to dark red fruits and its balance is spot-on; I love the 'minearality' on this. These are so deftly made and this Bien Nacido has become one of my favorites of the line-up of great wines. I love the mouthfeel on this and even my non-wino friends say wow when they taste these. This is going to be a wonderful wine on my deck this summer and I would even consider grilled meats as a pairing.

There is so much to love about this wine. Firstly, with a bit of air, the aromatics are big and remind me of rhubarb pie. Very flavorful on the palate, not at all thin as one note mentioned. Perhaps medium, but the fruit is very focused with good concentration and depth. As others have noted, some cranberry and strawberry, slightly tart and a hint of sour. A slight earthy note as well. Some spicebox, too -- really, layers of pleasing flavors. I also enjoyed the unfiltered texture of this wine - kind of gave a fleshy mouth feel that I really dig. Some of you may scoff at the high score I've given, but I feel this is a wine of rare quality that I seldom (never until now) find in domestic pinot. Amazing QPR here. Thank you, Ed Kurtzman, for making an affordable and beautiful California Pinot. I can't wait to taste more of these Sandlers

Pale translucent ruby color. Nose earthy, some herbs, cool wet rocks. Palate hints of blackberries, fleshy fruit with a nicely deep midpalate, herbal and some bright red cherry kirsch flavor towards the finish. Nicely made and good stuffing for the future, but no harm in opening one now for pleasure. Great QPR. 91 pts

Okay, pulled the cork right after GSO dropped it off. Pop n pour with a dinner crowd so I didn't have much time with it. What caught me was less lush/juicy than typical Sandler and more of the earth tones and herbs. It's still fruit forward but has these other aspects too. I'll be fun to watch as this settles down and ages.

The color is electric ruby: vibrant and near glowing. Nose of sweet red berry fruit with strawberries leading the way. The palate shows amazing deftness that Sandler Pinots have been known for. Soft undertoned & plushy red berries rule the day. Hard to believe these were just bottled last month. A true testament of the artistry applied by human hand. I am trying real hard to find commonality with any of the prior 50 or so bottles of Sandler Pinot I have sampled but can find none whatsoever. This is a unique addition to the lineup. The fruits hold on boldly for a lomg time and yet, this is not a bold wine. Amazing. So much in this and if you own some I would consider you one lucky pinotphile.

Clear scarlet in the glass with a reserved nose of yer typical pinot notes. The wine enters the palate with a restrained note of tart cranberry but then opens to cherry cola, sweet tea, cinnamon, and oak, all which become more pronounced as the wine opens over the next couple of hours. Very mild tannins, mild acidity, and a medium finish. There’s a bit of complexity here that makes this an engaging wine; balanced, delicious and potentially among our favorite of the year. A stunner for just $36!

Every time I drink a Sandler it feels like my palate is getting re-calibrated to what wine is really supposed to be about. In the 3 weeks since my last bottle of this, none of the 20 or so wines I've tried pleased me as much as this, including another Sandler (2016 Boer). I'm quite happy to have a couple more of these.

I am not enjoying this wine, at least over the past 24 hours. The nose, though it has pinot elements, also has this sort of international style type nose. Is this 100% pinot? The palate and nose also has a little woodiness/sawdust going on. Like the taste of drying tannins you get from new oak , minus the actual drying tannins (and vanilla). If I had to give a score , it'd be in the high 70s or low 80s.

I'm not convinced this bottle is totally representative and there might be some flaw that I'm unable to detect. I thought the 2016 Santa Lucia highlands bottling was quite delicious California pinot.

Appearance: medium+ ruby, tad garnet highlights, just starting to show some rim variation, essentially no staining, medium tearing, little bit of fine sediment.

Nose: clean, developing, pronounced, red plum, black plum, blackberry, raspberry, black olive, white pepper, black pepper, violet, eucalyptus, stemmy organic earth, freshly tilled soil, bacon fat, smoked meat, dried red plum.

Palate: dry, medium+ acid, medium+ alcohol (13.8%), medium+ tannin, medium+ body, medium+ intensity, medium+ finish, tart blackberry, boysenberry, black plum, red plum, raspberry, black olive, white pepper, black pepper, violet, eucalyptus, stemmy organic earth, freshly tilled soil, bacon fat, smoked meat, dried red plum.

Overall: A very aromatic and savory cool-climate Syrah. Loads of pepper, violets, herbs, and meatiness - the whole cluster really works here - although there is also a solid fruit core, with tart black fruits leading the way along with some varietally expected olive. The structural balance is really nice; everything feels in its proper place. An amazingly good value in cool-climate California wine, and at a really fascinating time in its life.

Popped and poured. Pale ruby color, very light. Slight hint of reduction on the nose at first but after 30 minutes it opened up to reveal red cherry, cranberry, pomegranate, slight hint of smokiness and spice. Mostly red fruit driven on the palate with medium acid and tannin and body. Restrained and well made pinot and a great QPR.
