The wine came across as distinctly cabernet sauvignon based, so I'd guess there is a significant component of cabernet sauvignon in the blend. But there are no hard edges to this wine, so there's clearly a healthy amount of merlot as well. Absolutely delicious though perhaps not a long ager. |

This wine is squarely in the drinking window. It has plenty of life left, but can't imagine it being much better than it was on this night. |

12/31/2012 - JHWinick Likes this wine: 91 pointsAn strong spiciness (black pepper) on the nose and palate that would had led me to guess syrah had I not known better. Dense, silky mouthfeel with flavors of plum and other black fruits. But nothing about this wine seemed consistent with the typical Screaming Eagle profile - it was simply too big. Also fairly tannic, so I would recommend a long decant or a few more years in the cellar. |
