The 2010 Clos St. Jacques is the real deal and another proof why those wines are that rare and expensive. It’s the (nearly) perfect combination of pure elegance, tension, focus but also power combined with an incredible drinkability. Dancing on the red fruit, grapefruit and some herbs back and forth and flowing down the throat like water. A truly great wine and definitely Grand Cru level imo. Nothing more to add.

Very young and still juicy fruit dominated.
We actually tasted this blind and the prediction was for 10yr old cool climate Pinot from California but from a “classical” producer like Domaine de la Cote.
Juicy rich red fruits courtesy of the 2009 vintage and frankly the wine felt like it needed another 15yrs plus to get into its proper stride and beauty. Maybe a 91 now but really unless one loves young juicy fruit this should be tucked away for many summers .

A private tasting and dinner (Restaurant Fitzgerald *, Rotterdam, NL): Powerful and complete and youthful, spicy and gamey, perhaps a bit muffled - or is it the comparison with the extremely fragrant DRC Richebourg 2000 which accompanied it? Wonderful balance and freshness, lively and elegant, wonderful weight of blue and black fruit, perfect charge of tannins, long and refined finish.

I was surprised by how expressive this was tonight at this young age. Fruit is so pure and ripe, soft and elegant, just an incredibly giving and juicy wine that is unbelievably delicious. Will become even more special with more time in the bottle, but I enjoyed it tremendously tonight.

Effing gorgeous mineral nose almost reminiscent of Styrofoam, spice out the wazoo, stems adding complexity, take me now Lord. Wooow. Need a cry and a nap after this. Debated about trying to purchase a bottle.

Sort of atypical Rousseau, so big. Beautifully layered, polished and silky, exceptional balance and purity and long finish. So intense yet so sensual. Profound.

2017 Villa d’Este Wine Symposium - Kelly and Kevin's excellent adventure; 11/9/2017-11/14/2017 (Villa D’este, Lake Como and Milan): The most elegant, pure, balanced and enjoyable wine of the CSJ flight. Beautifully perfumed nose displaying raspberry water, crushed blackberry, rose, exotic spices, sesame and strong limestone. Perfectly harmonious palate, airy and weightless, so finely layered subtle red fruit, bright acidity, incredibly mineral and a seamless subtle red fruit and sesame driven finish. The palate to die for, simply ethereal. Can a seven year red Burgundy be drinking perfectly? For me, yes!

Rousseau Chambertin v Rousseau Clos de Beze vertical battle - WHO WILL REIGN SUPREME!? (Jonathan Club): 2013 is a semi maligned vintage in Burgundy, but on the top end for both white and red Burgundy I feel like they've really shined. I can't remember the last 2013 from one of the top producers that I wasn't absolutely floored by the material in the wine. Had the 2013 Rousseau Clos de Beze a few months ago and it was a really incredible wine in that spicy structured manner.

The 2013 Chambertin we had today was full on wild sweet red berry fruit on a broad meaty profile. You get some smoked game, sweet earthy and pops of sweet berry that run deep into the finish. Also the acidity plays a huge role in the undercurrent of the wine as it keeps all that wildness in check and focused. Really damn good wine. I think everyone at the table was pretty surprised how fantastic it was.

After a Brûlée’s Grivot 2014. Firstly kudos to Rousseau for using a longer cork - frankly Grivots corks are ridiculously short alas half bottle. Same cork maker. Shame on Grivot. Back to the wine: Rousseaus CSJ14 is gorgeous. A sense of place with the most refined Gevrey aromas wafting from the glass indicating a step up over the Grivot in intensity already. Not quite as filigree as the Brûlée’s but infinitely more potent without sacrificing balance and filigranity. The palate reveals a deep core centre of sour cherries, Asian plum, Assam tea, gravel with a kiss of gentle well integrated oak at this point that shall see this mellow and age in style. First rate really and a vindication of a distinctly mediocre non descript Clos Ruchottes 14 I had a year back. I have two bottle of this left and the next will be in ten and the last in twenty years. Could become a truly special wine.

Light red, complex nose, a stunning nose, nose of the Easter Sunday Burgundy grand Cru lunch - every one of the 5 were very good, silky tannins allowed early access, among the 5 grand crus this was on another level, young still but delicious, out of this planet! ethereal, wine of the day!

The 2005 Clos St. Jacques from Armand Rousseau is still a very young wine, but its benchmark quality is clear. Stunning aromas of strawberry, raspberry, blood orange, peony, sous bois, woodsmoke, cedarwood and coco powder burst from the glass. On the palate, the wine is strikingly complete and multidimensional, with crystalline purity and a beautifully balanced marriage of breadth and brightness and an endless finish. If it were not for the wine's ineffable balance one might be tempted to call it decadent, but its poise is too perfect for that. A great Clos St. Jacques.

2009 and 2010 CSJ Horizontals Tasting: Tasted with all 2009 and 2010 Clos St Jacques. Colour ruby. Not a stereotypical 2009 Burgundy. A subdued but attractive nose with spicy oak present but not dominating. Pure and ripe red and black cherry aromas, with raspberry and roses. On palate, after a sweet entry, great volume, concentration, structure and length. Well integrated, suave tannins. Lovely texture with great power. Largely a red berry flavour profile but attractive minerality. The elevage is very visible but there is the fruit weight here to carry it. The acids were also prominent but part of the overall package, still to integrate, to become something really special in 10+ years. 94.

Winos' excellent adventure in France; 6/22/2017-6/27/2017 (All over France): Sweet pure black fruits, blackberry, black cherry, a hint of strawberry jam, rose and limestone. Excellent concentration, round but cool and silky, very good acidity, a hint of mineral, very fine tannins and a long pure black fruit driven finish. I mention to Frederic that the quality of Ruchottes has been really improving and he agrees that it is getting very close to Clos St Jacques in quality. Really nice showing.

2019s are hot but they are drinking well young still. I am still deciding if i love the vintage long term as 14.5% alcohol here is something that makes me nervous and question is if it's what I want in Burgundy. This wine today is a enormous fruit bomb of satin like deep red sweet exuberance that still offers some minerality to balance it and not make it vulgar. But it's a hot wine this much is clear. Worked better in the Conterno glass than Zalto Burg I felt.

This was a wonderful positive surprise vs expectations for the vintage (I really do not love 18 red burgs from previous experiences). This wine was accesssible - in fact it was wide open to my surprise, soft (!) even and measured (drank like the 13.5 pct alcohol it had on the label). I would say that compared to a 19 CSJ had a year prior a case in point where I prefer the 18 version at this early juncture as it's less alcoholic and mighty. The wine developed beautifully in the glass and we savoured it over dinner with the last glass being the best.

Nose is very fine, quite clean for the vintage, with minerals and flint showing, deep red fruit, ripe strawberries, some animal and meaty tones, some earth and firewood.
Palate is surprisingly balanced for a 2009, rather clean and fresh, with sweet darker raspberry fruit, ripe strawberries, earthy and quite lush, still with some acidity present to somewhat balance the whole package.
I believe that we have a 2009 that might actually end up really fine with more time?
This is much better balanced than the 2009 Rousseau Le Chambertin I had a while back.

Rescue Animal gathering at Jailbreak - all Burgundy (Jailbreak Brewery, Laurel, MD): Incredibly hedonistic noes displaying perfectly ripe rich red fruit, strawberry, a hint of cherry pie, sap, noticeable sous bois adding complexity, a hint of toasted oak/sesame, spicy spices, and earth. Beautifully integrated palate, layers upon layers of rich red fruit, rich yet fluid, excellent balance, beautifully detailed, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a seamless long generous rich red fruit driven finish with a hint of sesame and sap at the end. I am surprised by the strong sous bois development, not that I am complaining. Despite less than a decade old, this is drinking incredibly well. My WOTN.

This bottle really did the trick. Served after an truly outstanding Rousseau Clos Chateau 16 this turned it up a notch but followed the same beautiful vein that Rousseau 16 seems to possess. Just a terrfici nose, dark cherries galore, hauntingly fresh, cool fruited packed and stacked with well measured oak and a very long gripping finish. Suprisingly open today already, but will of course last and should get even better, I was really blown away by how good this wine was vs level / my expectations. So based on this Rousseau nailed 16.

Already showing beautiful harmonious palate, silky and fluid, finely layered fresh blackberry and espresso bean driven palate impression, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, incredibly fine tannins and a seamless pure black and red fruit driven finish with a hint of sap and espresso bean at the end. My guess is the Fourrier CSJ but the finesse makes me to quickly correct myself as the Rousseau. With air, the nose and palate become sensual and perfectly harmonious.

An evening with wine geeks (@Private location, Frankfurt): Glass: Gabriel Gold
Tasted blind. Beautiful, glowing color.
Awesome nose, pure velvet aromas, very multi-layered, deep and complex. Spices, blood, red fruit. You can sell this as perfume!
On the palate it is nearly perfect! Awesome acidity, perfectly integrated. Silky, ripe tannin. 13,5% abv. Wonderful clear, precise red fruit, some beautiful floral notes and a great mineral core. Silky texture. Amazing elegance and balance. Extremely complex wine but also so delicious and joyful to drink, that I could easily drink the whole bottles in an hour! Has decades ahead and will get even better. What a GREAT WINE! 96-97
