10/2/2016 - Tim Heaton Likes this wine: NRWow, how this has turned out. Five years since my last bottle, and, for me, probably the best one. Fully mature, but still firing on all cylinders. Color reveals little sign of age, but the nose, just gorgeous. Some sweet red fruits, lightly coddled by a darker influence, with spices galore. Soil, some wood, a touch of EtOH, more soil, with pie crust, ripe raspberries, pine needles and mushrooms. Really, I smelled this a hundred times if I smelled it once. The palate is medium-bodied, with a nice textural element framing the red fruits, with sweet tannins fully resolved at this point. Yes, I could last another 4-5 years, but I love where it's at right now, at its apogee, IMHO. No cola, no dark/black fruits, just a mature, lifted single-vineyard Sonoma effort. Perfect with grilled, herbs du Provence grilled chicken. 14,0% abv., recommended |

11/16/2016 - Tim Heaton Likes this wine: NRLight>Medium straw color. Nose opens with lots of citric spray, steely minerals and a touch of orchard fruit. Palate is light>medium bodied, with many more fruit layers revealed as this warms in the glass, with notes of orange sherbet, lime oil and soil developing in the nose and on the palate. Good+ finish, and just a touch ripe and round; dry, med>med+ complexity, avg finish. Not sure of the price, but if under $20, a solid value. 14,3 (fully resolved)thru 2017. recommended |

11/2/2014 - Tim Heaton Likes this wine: NRMedium garnet, gently faded to the clear rim, bright, clear. Cranberry, black cherry, pine resin, smoky oak, slight cola, potpourri, some EtOH tingle. Tart, dry, with notes of black tea, cranberry and cherry on the nose and palate. Medium+ finish, graceful, structured and dry. The tannins still need some more time, as does the fruit for additional complexity. Floral, sandalwood, toasty oak, vanilla and spice notes by hour two. Some unresolved EtOH is an unwelcome signature on the finish. Needs another 5 years of bottle rest. 13,9% abv., drink thru 2024 |

6/15/2015 - Rick 4 Wine Does not like this wine: 85 pointsAs a pop and pour the wine has some musty funk that needed fifteen minutes to blow off, the fruit is nearly all dark cherry and preserved berries...dark from the mid-palette through finish leaving a faux sticky sweet sensation. I found the wine a bit unctuous, like some glycerin pervading the mouthfeel andnprolongingnthe sense of sweetness. I'm not a fan of the styke of this wine; I know Rick Moshin always wants to experiment with each of fifty-teen vineyards (which made collecting his wine an inventory nightmare and is no small part of why I stopped collecting his stuff) but I don't like the approach he took here. Truly this wine exhibits flavors a Pinot should not exhibit. There are plum sensations one migh expect from Languedoc and some pepper like that of Granacha....sorry but not a fan. Thankfully, as Rick makes so many wines, I have limited inventory of this one. |

5/18/2020 - Tim Heaton Likes this wine: NRQuite good. Has aged really well over the ten years since I last tasted it. Red currant, soil, red floral, a dash of vanilla, and then more place notes. The palate is decidedly old world leaning, with a medium/med+ body, plenty of still fresh acidity, fine, sweet tannins, and med+ length. This can go another 5-8 years depending on your cellar. That said, it's probably in prime position just now, having shed some of its youthful fat and exuberance, for a more elegant, and poised offering; it's just between secondary and tertiary. The 14,8% abv. is fully integrated. recommended |

12/21/2012 - gutt22 Does not like this wine: NR15.8% alcohol. This was a hot mess. Port-like on the nose. Overripe blackberry on the nose and not much else. This is syrupy and sweet on the palate. Not much of interest here at all. D |

7/28/2015 - Rick 4 Wine Likes this wine: 91 pointsDrinking beautifully at this point, it's still very fruit forward and is missing some of the musty and fungal characteristics that older Moshin pinot Noir often develop at age. This one is a sweet spot right now and should be drunk before the fruit degrades. Drink in 2015. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

3/28/2010 - stubbie999 wrote: NRThis is starting to come into its own. Herbs, sappy pinot fruit, and a little earthy mushroom. Similar on the palate, with just a bit more red fruit moving forward above the savory notes. Great balance, and fantastic with a dinner of red chard, tuna steaks, and roasted fingerling potatoes. Great QPR. |

4/24/2013 - wormfarmer Likes this wine: 93 pointsAn electric reminder of how I fell in love with Moshin. Opened an hour prior to consumption. Fantastic out of the gate -- nervy cherry, but darker stuff in there, too (pine resin? i can't recall now, a day later, but it was woodsy, forest-floory stuff). An hour in it seemed to thicken a bit on the palate (hints of balsamic reduction). A fantastic wine. |

6/22/2015 - Rick 4 Wine Likes this wine: NRStrongly acidic; I found the heartburn quite striking, as we paired with Tunisian pork loin and humus and drank alone. For the record, I'd give this wine an 88-89 and my wife would be 91-92, so we're settling at a 90. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

4/18/2022 - pkbowen Likes this wine: 88 pointsSplash decant. Pours medium red with purple highlights and no sediment. Generous nose with blackberry and black cherry juice, Turkish rose, and vanilla cola syrup. On the palate it opens with luscious body and both bright and dark, ripe red fruits with vanilla cola accents. Earth, cola, and black cherry on the mid with low intensity, well-integrated tannins and med+, fuzzy red berry acid. Shorter finish, but the acid persists. (Was the acid augmented to add structure?) Good drop for $17 and a solid four pack buy. Drink now. Very good 88. |

1/7/2020 - Rick 4 Wine Does not like this wine: 80 pointsPerhaps baked? This wine was demonstrating strong raisin qualities with a kind of herbal funk. We had a glass to see if it blew off and then dumped the wine. I have a long history of Moshin Pinot and tried this exact wine in the winery in the spring, so not sure what’s going on. Disappointing though. |

7/24/2019 - Griffiths Likes this wine: 88 pointsHalo is the vinyard dog who kept watch on the hill. I’ve heard this plot was sold recently, so no more bottlings with this name. Hopefully sold to a fellow winemaker or grape farmer. Drinking very well, deep color and pleasant, with almost no tannin. Recommend drinking up over next year. |

10/9/2011 - Tim Heaton wrote: NRTasted at the winery. The pedigree is obvious right away, with the nose sporting tobacco, cassis, a touch of graphite and creamy black and blue fruits. I really like how approachable this is (like the '07, and the '06) already, but without a doubt this has the stuffing for a decade + of great drinking and positive evolution in the cellar. Very fine-grained tannins, fresh acids, medium+ finish. This is delicious now (I had it with grilled rib-eye, outstanding) and will no doubt improve over the next 5+ years and drink well for years after that. Reminds me of a very fine (read: expensive) right-bank blend. Terrific effort considering the vintage's challenges. Drink thru 2022, score: A- |

1/29/2020 - wcf1946 Does not like this wine: 82 pointsDisappointed with this one from WTSO. A rare miss. Typical CA Pinot but a tad lighter. Limited structure and little finish. The biggest problem is a decidedly bitter finish. Way overpriced at $20. |
