2010 Château de Saint Cosme GigondasRed Rhone Blend more |
1/10/2021 - isbjoern wrote: 90 pointsThis bottle again seemed a bit funky with notes of horse stable and leather, bacon, tar and some tobacco (high toasting?), high alcohol and a slightly baked, oxidized and raisined fruit. But the funky character was never overwhelming and the wine shows good texture and lots of interesting herbal, earthy and spicy flavors too. While I have had better balanced wines from Saint-Cosme, this is another excellent Gigondas made in a slightly rustic and brett influenced style. At peak now for my palate. - 90 points |

12/12/2018 - isbjoern Likes this wine: 91 pointsA lovely Chianti from Felsina, liked it better than the Fontalloro of the same vintage. Lots of acidic red cherry fruit, silky tannins, velvety mouthfeel, juicy and fresh, maybe a bit lighter than expected but I don't mind. Great for drinking now, but will still hold a few years. - 91 points |

2010 La Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri Rioja ReservaTempranillo Blend, Tempranillo more |
1/5/2020 - isbjoern Likes this wine: 91 pointsA beautiful wine; deep dark fruit core, mineral and slightly herbal, licorice, nicely structured, present but silky tannins, gentle oak treatment (no obvious toasting or vanilla), still very young and restrained, paired well with the lamb. Lovely Rioja. - 91 points |

2005 Château Duhart-MilonPauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more |
11/9/2018 - isbjoern Likes this wine: 93 pointsTerriffic and absolutely classy bottle of Pauillac. Good cassis and cherry fruit, pencil shavings, cedar, rusty iron, meaty, juicy and well-balanced, with great acidity, wonderful texture with surprisingly soft tannins, long finish. This bottle was more open and ready than I had expected - even more so than Chateau Gloria from the same vintage. This is a very complete Pauillac and back in 2008 it was a great bargain. At a group tasting of 16 high-level Bordeaux this ranked 3rd, just behind a Chateau Mouton 2007 and a Lynch-Bages 2001. Good now, but will age well for another 10-20 years. - 93 points |

4/5/2019 - isbjoern wrote: 93 pointsClose competition with the "Hommage à Jaques Perrin 2013" for wine of the evening. This is a stunning wine which suprised us all with a freshness, elegance and precise fruit no one expected to find in a Chateauneuf from 2007. Fine olive notes on the long finish. Drinking perfectly now. Great wine! - 93 points |

2010 Château PoujeauxMoulis en Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend more |
10/7/2023 - isbjoern wrote: 90 pointsA fine vintage of Chateau Poujeaux, sweet blackcurrant and plum, very silky tannins for 2010, matching acidity, some milk chocolate and iron notes, well integrated oak adding a spicy cedar flavor. Maybe lacks a bit of mid palate weight, but the finish is surprisingly long. While fully approachable now, this bottle had the fruit and tannins for further ageing. It should drink well for another 7-10 years. - 90 points |

2010 Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-PapeRed Rhone Blend more |
4/5/2019 - isbjoern wrote: 89 pointsA slightly dissapointing bottle with very strong brettanomyces flavors: barnyard, horse stable and leather. These flavors were covering most of the fruit, but the structure of the wine was excellent and seemed more complex than the 2007. I hope my remaining bottles do not show the same levels of brett. For my palate this is on the verge of being flawed. Others in our tasting group liked the wine because of the brett flavors and some didn't even taste them at all. It seems it utlimately comes down to personal sensitivity to brett. - 89 points |

2019 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-PapeRed Rhone Blend more |
4/26/2022 - isbjoern wrote: 95 pointsWonderful elegance here, lovely silky tannins and very pretty fruit that is perfectly ripe and without any overripe flavors, lots of freshness and minerality as usual for Beaucastel, quite dense in texture, finishes on red berry fruit and chocolate flavors. A very fine vintage. Drinks well right out of the bottle, so no problem in trying it during its youth. - 95 points |

2008 Fattoria Galardi Terra di LavoroRoccamonfina IGT Aglianico more |
9/23/2017 - isbjoern Likes this wine: 92 pointsDark and full-bodied, but quite elegant; nice mineral touch, Mediterranean herbs, understated dark fruit core, slightly grippy tannins and perfect acidity, a gentle and highly elegant oak treatment with fine cedar flavors, overall restrained and more old-school Agliancio style, especially when compared to the fruit-bomb Aglianico from Nugnes we had just afterwards. A perfect Italian food wine, but I believe this hasn't fully reached its ideal drinking window. Excellent now, but will be teriffic in a few years. - 92+ points |

12/24/2017 - isbjoern wrote: 90 pointsAgree with previous comments that this is one of the more classy and fresher C9dP of the vintage. Spicy, slightly sweet, licorice, good acidity for 2007. Not very complex though and ready for drinking. - 90 points |

Great acidity here, very mineral, super elegant texture and tannins, fine red and black berry fruit. So clean, fresh and mouthwatering. Love it. This is beautiful now but will likely get even better with a bit of age. - 92+ points |

2010 Château de Saint Cosme GigondasRed Rhone Blend more |
12/31/2019 - isbjoern wrote: 90 pointsClearly some age to this bottle. Probably at or just past its peak. Very spicy with slightly oxidized red berry and plum fruit, still a bit tannic and drying, good acidity, slightly hot, a bit funky with barnyard and leather, tar and tobacco (high toasting), licorice flavors. A good wine but somewhat disjointed. - 90 points |

2016 Domaine Vincent Paris St. Joseph Les CotesSyrah more |
4/5/2019 - isbjoern wrote: 89 pointsA lovely young Saint-Joseph with pristine cool climate fruit of cherries and raspberries and a nice floral touch. A fresh acidity supports the lovely fruit which isn't impaired by oak flavors or tannins. Almost drinks like a fine Cru Beaujolais. Lovely for drinking young while waiting for the more structured wines to integrate. Perfect intro wine to a Northern Rhone tasting. - 89 points |

2006 Il Poggione (Proprietá Franceschi) Brunello di MontalcinoSangiovese more |
4/16/2016 - isbjoern wrote: 91 pointsLovely Brunello. Soft tannins, silky mouthfeel, fine acidity, very gentle oak treatment. Quite a contrast to the oaky and slightly oxidized 2004 I had 2 years ago, also at 10 years of age. Looking at other people's reviews it seems bottle variation is often an issue with Il Poggione. - 91 points |

Super elegant wine, great fruit, perfectly integrated oak flavors, medium acidity - less crisp than the other wines, extremely elegant tannins on the finish. Great wine and will continue to age well. - 92 points |

2019 Famille Perrin / Perrin & Fils Gigondas La GilleRed Rhone Blend more |
11/18/2023 - isbjoern wrote: 90 pointsLovely spicy Gigondas with soft tannins, sweet red fruits and a spicy/earthy note. Presumably has a higher percentage of Syrah in the blend. Warm, rich and spicy - perfect wine for winter time. I have had more structured and complex Gigondas, but this wine was delicious and approachable now. It should hold for another 5-8 years. I had some leftovers that I drank a full week later and the wine was still showing strong. - 90 points |

4/28/2021 - isbjoern wrote: 89 pointsLooking at some of the (professional) reviewer's notes, I am a bit lost: "depth", "power", "wild", "plums"... that is absolutely not what I get from my glass/bottle. I taste a medium bodied, very juicy, clean and fresh wine with a tasty and slighlty sour red cherry fruity, gentle tannins and just a hint of licorice and coffee on the finish. It is elegant and fresh, rather linear and not very complex, and seems ready for drinking, though I assume it will age well another 5-10 years. But it is the absolute opposite of a "powerful" wine. Looking at some of the CT reviews, it seems like there could be some bottle variation?? I do like this fresh and juicy style - which I also associate with Felsina. I was just expecting a richer and more complex wine based on the reviews. - 89 points 3 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

2010 Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-PapeRed Rhone Blend more |
10/16/2020 - isbjoern wrote: 90 pointsSome barnyard flavors and cherries on the nose; well-balanced on the palate: not too heavy for a C9dP, alcohol in check and no baked fruit flavors, fine acidity, sweet cherry fruit, also some earth and barnyard flavors (brett), spicy and slightly vegetal with licorice notes, soft texture and gentle tannins and matching acidity. A rather classy Chateauneuf-du-Pape. At or near peak drinking window for my palate. - 90 points |

2010 Château Fleur CardinaleSt. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend more |
11/9/2018 - isbjoern wrote: 90 pointsMassively tannic, alcoholic and extracted, quite rough and very dense, lots of bitter chocolate flavors and some mocha. This is made in a very modern Bordeaux style trying hard to extract the maximum from the grapes. But there is indeed a lot of class lurking beneath and the fruit is actually really lovely. Currently, for my palate, there is not much pleasure in drinking this wine, it was by far the most tannic wine of the 16 Bordeaux wines we tasted that evening, but I could see this become really interesting in - maybe - another 5-10 years. Hold. - 90++ points |

11/18/2014 - isbjoern wrote: 87 pointsDespite almost everyone loving this wine on CT, I have to say this is absolutely not my style of wine nor is it a classic Chateuneuf-du-Pape as I understand it. Blatantly sweet, stewed overripe fruit, candy like taste, cherry liqueur, smoke flavors, the alcohol way over the top of what I can bear. This is not a wine I would want to pair with food. Maybe one could pair this with a cigar on a cold winter evening. Not a wine style I can fully enjoy drinking. - 87 points 3 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

2009 Château PotensacMédoc Red Bordeaux Blend more |
11/23/2018 - isbjoern Likes this wine: 90 pointsQuite a fine and clean fruit for Bordeaux, quite rich and forward, but lacks a bit of depth on mid-palate, elegant and juicy style, excellent oak integration which adds a touch of spicy character to the wine, still some unresolved tannins that ask for 3-5 years of additional patience, classy Bordeaux overall and great quality and value for a Médoc wine. Great with lamb! - 90+ points |

2015 Château du Cèdre Cahors Le CèdreMalbec more |
8/5/2019 - isbjoern wrote: 90 pointsRich black fruit, quite concentrated, but soft silky tannins, modern and fruit-forward style, but also good acidty and juicy texture and what I like, not at all marred by oak. Surpisingly accessible already. This is certainly not a tannic old-school style of Cahors, this is modern wine making but very well-done. For me it ultimately lacks a bit of character though for a very high score. Lovely wine for game, duck and roast red meat. Ready for drinking but will hold well. - 90 points |
