6/15/2015 - RDHudak wrote: 86 pointsInformal notes, but there's certainly a reason this was declassified. Minimal botrytis and complexity with a watered down palate and body. While this is certainly very young, I don't have high hopes for it. |

2/26/2016 - RDHudak wrote: 94 pointsConsumed at a party, so the notes are informal. Beautiful dark color with virtually no signs of age. N: Lush and full of dark fruit, floral notes, leather and cedar. P: Full bodied with more dark fruit, leather and cassis. Balanced acidity with integrated tannin. F: Long and delicious. This was an insane buy at the $39 I got it for years ago. After being decanted for several hours, it showed no signs at all of decline and seems to have a long life ahead. What a great wine. 94+ |

2014 Caymus Cabernet SauvignonNapa Valley more |
2/15/2018 - RDHudak wrote: 92 pointsC: As dark as they come. N: Loads of plum, vanilla, raspberry and grape jelly. P: Big and bold, as expected. Full bodied, but carried huge amounts of fruit, vanilla and balanced tannin and acidity. F: Long and sweet with loads of dark fruit. I've had this before in a group of varietal correct Cabernet and it was a flop if you're looking for a true Napa Cab experience. As a matter of fact, I would't have even guessed it blind as a Cab. That said, I knew that Caymus is like Metallica, not a BB King concert, so we enjoyed it for what it was. 4 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

5/4/2017 - RDHudak wrote: 91 pointsC: Deep, very dark. N: Not particularly expressive, it showed dark cherry, black licorice, cedar and blackberry. P: More of the same, with seamless tannin and balanced acidity. F: Medium with more dark fruit and cedar and a pronounced alcoholic bite. This showed similarly over 48 hours and was, as expected, quite young. This will definitely shine with time. 91+ |

Medium bodied with medium acidity and tannin. The balance on this is wonderful. This continues to evolve and blossom with decant. This very underpriced and I'm thrilled to have four more. So delicious! |

4/4/2015 - RDHudak wrote: 90 pointsDecanted for 2 hours. Surprisingly restrained in flavor and complexity, especially for a 2007, this seemed more like a moderate CdR than a higher priced Cdp. Mild cranberry, dried herb and some earthiness. Integrated tannins with balanced acidity. Short-medium length finish. Paired with grilled lamb chops. 87-90 |

5/19/2015 - RDHudak wrote: 91 pointsC: Surprisingly dark, with little bricking. N: Dusty cellar, loads of leather, some oak. P: More dusty, earthy flavors, dry black cherry, leather, pronounced tannins and acidity. Medium body. F: Medium with drying, firm tannins on the back end and a classic Italian profile. While the cork in this showed running around half way, this is very good and drinking surprisingly young. Very nice. 3 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

10/26/2015 - RDHudak wrote: 92 pointsC: About as deep and dark as I have seen in a Cabernet, almost Syrah like in color. N: Loads of sweet, dark fruit, but obviously held back by my lack of a decant. P: Big wine, with plenty of dark berry, blackberry and cassis in a compact, full bodied frame. Young but inoffensive tannin with enough acidity to balance the massive fruit. This bottle seemed slightly disjointed initially and was best on the last sip, 3 hours later, yet still could have used a bit more time to open, despite being in a wide bottom decanter for 2+ hours. F: Medium to long with moderate complexity, which may develop with time or a longer decant. I served this blind to my wife and she guessed a $50-$70 price point, FWIW. My only knock on this is the seeming lack of complexity (which could be due to its youth), but for the price, it can't be beat. I'm going to let mine sleep for a while, and that's coming from a guy who really enjoys younger, bold wines. |

9/18/2014 - RDHudak wrote: 93 pointsInformal notes. On the pnp, this was intense, primary fruit and not much more. With an hour decant (which wasn't enough), it started to show much more tannic structure, which it sorely needed for the massive fruit. Towards the end of the night, it really started to come around with medium acidity, full body and a medium-long finish. IMO, this needs quite a bit more time. |
