What a difference in bottles. I got the dusty tannins and fruit noted by others as compared to carbonation in the last one. Plenty life left in this one. Possibly 92 points in a few years once fruit takes backstage

Quite perfumed nose. To me this seems to be at the start of prime drinking window - medium bodied, subtle herby notes with some smoky characteristics that tended to make this better with food.

A monster tasting at Laszlo's: Blind. Camphor and mint, orange and redcurrant on the nose. Palate is more to my taste with clean red fruits and woody spice. Tannins are present and holding well. It's a good wine, though it won't be for everyone.

Decanted for 2 hours which clearly helped, consume over 2 hours from the bottle. Elegant & long finishing. Hold or drink with proper decant.

Visit to Woodlands, Margaret River. I have read a lot about Woodlands, however overall this was quite a disssapointing visit, wines lacked any sort of drive; quite linear and weak in the mid-palate, and even though they were well made they all missed a little something. The Woodlands Cabernet Sauvignon was probably the highlight, however at $229 AUD it was a hard pass. At $100 this would be an easy buy

Evolving nicely with dark cherry, blackberry, cigar box, unsmoked tobacco and savoury spices, palate is more savoury and showing more oaky notes than the 2019 just tasted, I am guessing this will evolve further in the next 5-10 years.

Finally! Easily the best wine tasted at Woodlands, 100% New French Oak for 24 months, this easily helped with the structure of the wine, I was expecting for this to be super oaky but the oak is already very well integrated showing cassis, blackcurrant, cacao , cedar, black pepper, eucalyptus, violets, Palate is wonderfully layered, dark juicy fruits, mocha, dusty tannins, palate is creamy and velvety with a nice persistence throughout! Will drink nicely over the next 10ish years.

Showed more layers and depth vs Clementine, dark fruit, creamy mid -palate quite velvety as well, just missing that length.

This is more of a second wine from their estate from my understanding, Cab Sauvignon dominated; dark black and red fruits, cedar, sweet spices. crushed florals, palate is slightly creamy, round with fine but structured tannins, good mid-palate depth and a medium finish. The finish is what really disappointed me about all Woodlands wines....

Step up from the Cab Franc - Merlot blend, slightly better, dark black fruit, green bell pepper, mocha and cedar. Slightly rounder and more structured mid-palate, just falls fast

Very green, peppers, dark underripe fruits, crushed florals, savoury herbs thin mid-palate. nope

Estate grown from their new vineyard, this is significantly better than the previous two Chardonnays, citrus, peaches, nectarine , jasmine, vanilla and baking spice, wonderful weight and texture on the mid- palate, drops off a little but in general much more enjoyable, nice sneaky length.

A step-up from the Watson Family Chardonnay, however lacking any sort of mid-palate weight, neutral oak, roundish mouthfeel but drops off quickly.

Just did a PnP today, which I almost never do with a red wine. The first 15-30 minutes it was like a fruit salad in your glass--incredibly delicious. Then, it transitioned into a more complex blend, with cranberry, garrigue. and coconut and vanilla (from the oak aging). Loads of lip-smacking acidity which gives the wine so much freshness. Low/moderate ABV 13.5%. Very long finish, 45 sec. at least. Always a fan of W. Australian Cab blends.

Would be happy at @ 5x the price. Honestly, drink as a first class mature Bordeaux with a pinch of acid & jam… just a pinch. Super balanced with beautifully long finish. This one just flourished with age. And feels like a few more years left.

NobleRottersSydney - Marg River & Great Southern (Fix, St James, Sydney): {screwcap, 13.5%} [Graeme] Total cabernet style; current, cassis, and I heard Glenn say crushed ant – concur with that. Lavish sort of palate, pure, rich and ripe with black fruit; no green or olive here. Medium weight, subtle cedary tannins, medium acidity. Polished palate of pure black flavours; very much fruit-driven but controlled, with medium weight, and a medium length finish. Just about my first go at Woodlands premium cabernet, family-labelled wine; it’s very good, but doesn’t quite have the sophistication of the Moss Wood (two wines later), despite being similarly priced. Perhaps will age OK. Maybe. But for $20 price difference, you’d buy the Moss Wood…

This vintage was the birth year of my eldest son. I bought several dozen bottles when the wine was 2 years old and they have been cellared perfectly in a commercial cellar. I have written several notes on the wine on Cellar Tracker over the years. It his 16th birthday and he is sampling 1/2 a glass with me. He is also writing notes.
The wine has improved with time. It retains it's introspective feminine nature and although it is from Australia's Margaret River region it most closely resembles the St Julien subregion of the left bank in Bourdeaux.
A beautiful wine that has gracefully evolved over 16 years.

Appearance: Mahogany edge. Semi-opaque.
Bouquet: Integrated. Primary aromas of dark cherries, blueberries, lemon grass. Black pepper. Spice.
Palate: Integrated. Dark cherries, blackcurrant syrup, blueberry, gooseberry, raspberry, blackberry ,green olives. Roses. Wet earth.Mint. Milk coffee. Aged characteristics of mushroom. Well balanced. Great length.
Technical: Riedel Bordeaux glasses. Drinking temperature 15 deg C. Best between 45 minutes to 90 minutes after opening. NS
