Lightheart consistently delivers a good pinot, especially compared to other south santa clara wineries. This one does not disappoint. The carneros sourced grapes deliver a nice but not overwhelmingly floral nose. Texture is smooth, and the wine is well balanced, though it is perhaps a bit more bland than the previous vintage.

I think this is a good balanced CA take on a Bordeaux Superior. You get the same fruit and dry wood tannins, just a bit bigger in all dimensions. More classic, in a sense, then a lot of the lower end Cabernet from CA, as the fruit doesn't really dominate over the structure.

Update: After two days, this is even better. Really enjoyable. Still the fun darker notes, which could be the 2008 smoke mentioned on the back, but better integrated and still overshadowed by the structure. I think the best 15% cab I've had.

Very big and primary and basically overwhelmed by the oak. I've had other wines from these folks that I've enjoyed, but this was an exception.
