2/23/2023 - Personal Opinion Likes this wine: NR

Opposed to the pronounced California fruit forwardness that others seem to be remarking on, this is exactly how I remember it when I tried it 2014.. still dominated by whole cluster overtones. Albeit more developed now, though very much in line with my initial impressions years ago. Bright acid will likely provide a number of years of life still.. regardless, it’s developed and drinking well now. Initial overtones of dried herbs, tomatoe leaf, roasted root vegetables and soil dominate the nose, which slowly give way to buried layers of dark cranberry, and very subtle florals with air. On the palate, the wine first feels smooth and expansive.. medium bodied.. than a burst of acidity takes hold and flavors of cranberry, orange rind, grapefruit and spice rush in.. only to be replaced with lingering layers of tomatoe leaf, soil and roasted root vegetables in the long finish. Subtle damp neutral barrel and whole cluster aromas remain in the empty glass. Very nice. While I could have waited to open my single bottle, it’s exactly what I was craving.. earthy, bright, whole cluster goodness. The wine becomes more subtly integrated with time, while still showing all the same nuances and complexities. Brighter acid keeps the entire wine in check and leaner overall. Paired 8/10 with mushroom risotto. 10/10 with plain steamed Red Swiss Chard!! Great synergy with chard! No complaints :)

No complaints. Big and bold. A nice change of pace from the abundance of Pinots in the PNW. Simple, brooding, dark, cherry cola and vanilla aromas and flavors. Resolved tannins with medium acidity, warming alcohol and a decent length in finish. Perfect for steak and potatoes.

Unexpectedly.. dominated by brett upon opening.. which unfortunately completely hides the varietal character. Definitely has the natural wine vibe going on. Enjoyable medium bodied weight and texture.. with fine, fine, dusty drying tannins. Overall, easy drinking, old world, good value, brett bomb. Love this producers Muscadet, not so much this bottling. Not bad for a natural wine, just not my preferred style anymore..

Drinking well all things considered.. fruit is primarily gone IMO, though enjoyable secondary aromas and flavors dominate. Bricking color. Medium, light - light bodied, with balanced acid pushing a good finish of developed flavors. Enjoyable, not something I would pass on ;)

Still enjoyable.. if not impressive. S bottling. Opened 10 hours without significant degradation.. only positive changes IMO.. full of Brett in the best way possible.. floral, spicy, sappy, concentrated, balanced.. full of character, texture and body.. Not sure where this is going or how much life it has left in it, though after 11 years and 10+ hours open, I’d say it’s still holding strong. Recommended ;)

Some bricking. Developed. Aromas of warm fig paste, tapenade, dried herbs and grilled meats. Integrated and complex. Gaining some power and depth with air. Soft and round mid palate, with balanced acidity in finish. Fine, dusty, integrated tannins. Medium bodied, yet penetrating and mouth coating, with a looong, savory finish. Lingering flavors of tapenade, dried herbs and grilled meats. Drinking well. Impressive!

Developed. Subtle ox. Delicate honey nuances. Brine. Citrus. Smooth and filling..,balanced, envelopeing acid. Lightly browning apple and lime in finish. Good length. No complaints. Solid. Interesting. Enjoyable. I prefer a little less development with a little more pop and mineral in this varietal.. though awesome for 7+ years! Paired well with Garlic Buttered Prawns.

Interesting and enjoyable, though past its prime for my preferences. Bricking. Earthy, savory, sous bois, cranberry nuances on the nose. Resolved, very fine tannins. Mild-medim acid. Med bodied, transparent palate. Savory, sous bois, earthy, mildly tart, red fruited and cola nuances on the palate. Acceptable pairing with shiitake teriyaki salmon. Should have opened a few years ago, though definitely not bad.. still enjoyable.. more of a personal preference of age at this point. Drink now.

A crowd-pleasing style, for those that prefer a bigger, bolder styled RRV Pinot Noir. 14.9% abv. Paired well with soy sauce drenched pork pot stickers.

Definetly open, integrated and ready to enjoy. Reminiscent of a fine, ripe, bold Bordeaux. Dense, black fruit, cassis, black cherry, leather, spice and river stone. Beautiful, opaque, deep purple. Dense, full-bodied mid-palate, with softened, though still dry, dusty tannins and mouthwatering acid. Paired very well with NY steak. Definitely plenty of fruit and structure left for another 3-5 years, if not longer. Doesn’t taste tired, dried or thin. Softened, though still powerful. I’m happy I opened my single bottle when I did. Very good.

Bottle opened for 6 hours and chilled. Tasted chilled and allowed to come up in temperature. A richer, fuller bodied style California Chardonnay, with balance and restrain. Ripe, baked apple and pear overtones, with restrained layers of cream, brûléed suger, honeysuckle and finely toasted oak in the finish. A round, full mid-palate, with building acidity thru the lingering finish. Overall, a well made wine for the price point, offering a richer styled California Chardonnay, with balanced layers of ripe fruit, toasted oak, creaminess and acidity. Good value.

Enjoyed over two nights. Overall, more structured and age worthy then 2012, with similar core characteristics. Dried, black cherry and dark plum overtones, with classic RRV, cola, spice, and mildly, charred oak nuances. Fine, dusty, dry tannins. Medium-plus body, with lingering, yet structured smooth, juicy, fruit-forward spicy finish. Good value. More enjoyable, open and integrated on day 2. Throw one in the back of the cellar for a bit... should age well for a few more years.

Good value! Needed a casual 1-2 hours to open and come together. Enjoyable flavors of dark fruit, black current skins, black pepper and savory iron/minerals. Good balance of fruit, depth, weight and concentration for price. Medium-medium-plus body, with soft, polished tannins. Serious enough to pair with simple meats, yet a friendly enough to be enjoyed as a crowd-pleasing cocktail wine.

Immediately enjoyable upon opening. Classic Loire SB profile. Pleasant, flinty, mineralality and seashell dominated the profile for me, with delicate layers of lime green apple, and white florals beneath. A notable, round, fuller mouthfeel, was off set with pleasant, refreshing acid. Very enjoyable, classic, elegant Loire Valley Sauv Blanc. Low sulfite level. Paired well with Garlic Buttered Prawns. Good stuff.

Balanced concentration of fruit, weight and texture. Beautiful and elegant. Real, not contrived. Well made. Much appreciated low sulfite level. Top tier. A definite repurchase in the near future.

Clean and structured. Clean, crisp, lime, citrus, green apple, white floral and flinty mineral aromas/flavors. Medium bodied, with pronounced acid and dry, chalky mouthfeel. Structured. A good German impersonation from MacLaren Vale, Australia. A bit reductive upon opening, though dissipated over extended time. Dry. Shows potential to cellar for a handful of years to soften structure. Good, though needs a little patience.

Very good. Didn't need much air to begin enjoying, though opened a bit more with time. Red fruit, raspberry pastille, dark strawberries and florals are matched by layers of iron and black pepper. Solid QPR for $15. Medium bodied, with fine, dusty tannins, balanced acid and shorter finish. Paired well with roasted pork and brown sauce. Great weekday/table wine. I would definitely buy again.. unsure why I waited so long to buy after sampling in summer.

Good QPR.

(Not a bold, ripe, concentrated, full bodied New World Cab/Merlot.)

Classic, intermingled layers of black currant skins, black cherry juice, delicate purple florals, dried tobacco, pencil shavings, graphite, gravel and worn leather. Round, supple, and medium-bodied, with dusty, dry tannins and balanced acid. Shorter finish. Paired well with simple seared filet and garlic potatoes. Not going to change the world, though a great weekday value. I would buy again for $15.

Needs time. Overall, delicate, tight and structured. Transparent earth and damp soil overtones, backed by delicate dark fruit, subtle anise and chalky, stony minerality. Medium bodied, with noticeably dry, dusty, tannins and balanced acid. Low sulfite level was noticeable. Quality, structured, old world wine, that would be best enjoyed with well marbled meat. Good value when compared to some village level Burgs. Beautiful transparency. Enjoyable, well-made, delicate, old world Pinot Noir. Not for those wanting a bold, juicy, soft, fruit-forward Pinot.

Long 8 hr decant. On the savory side of the fence. Black coffee, black currant skins, green olive, mild eucalyptus and graphite. Smooth, integrated mouthfeel. Medium-medium-plus bodied, with softened tannins, balanced acid and elegant, lingering finish. Paired very well with filet and blue cheese. Drinks above its price point. Should continue to age gracefully and develop more savory characteristics with time.
